Cathédrale Australienne en Ukraine !

An Australian Cathedral in Ukraine !

Strange indeed at first glance to see on a Ukrainian stamp...an Australian cathedral. It's easier to understand when you learn that this cathedral is in fact the St.Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kiev Patriarchate, located in Adelaide.
This stamp is the 2nd of a series devoted to Ukrainians places of worship abroad. The first, issued in 2005, represented the St.Barbara Catholic Ukrainian Church in Vienna, Austria.
The Ukraine Post Office does not innovate as Armenia, as part of the celebration of 1700 years of Christianity in the country in 2001, had issued a series of stamps representing Armenian churches abroad.

The stamp above, issued on February 9, 2007, represents a contemporary view of the Church on the right. The attached label on the left shows a stained glass window of the church representing its patron, the Archangel St. Michael.
This church was built on the model of the baroque St.Andrew's Cathedral in Kiev. It is a cross-shaped building with a principal dome and 4 lesser cupolas. The construction was finished in 1974 and the Church was consecrated in 1975.
Another church also appears in the lower left on the cover. You have maybe recognized it ?? Not me...thank you in advance if you have the answer :-)
