JO au Liechtenstein

Olympics in Liechtenstein

Like almost every Olympic year, the Post of Liechtenstein has issued a series of two stamps on June 2, 2008 about the next Olympics in Beijing.
This is one of these two stamps you can see at the right on this nice letter below. Thank you very much Vural for this cover mailed on June 24, 2008 from Vaduz, the small capital :-)
I've already mentioned in a previous post the interesting definitive series about unusual views of villages, issued between 1996 and 2001, including the 2 values (Eschen and Planken) on the left.

The "Olympic" stamp above is the work of Chinese artist Xiao Hong, who has staged two of the five "Fuwa", the mascots of these games.
This stamp on a green background, is devoted to Ball sports with Huanhuan (Olympic flame) playing football and Yingying (antelope) playing table tennis. The stamp includes the official logo of these games and at the bottom a view of the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
The other stamp of this series represents a combat between Huanhuan and Jingjing (panda) with a view of the Forbidden City.
The chances of medals of the ten athletes of Liechtenstein will be very limited during these games... They participate in the Summer Games since 1936 but have never won any medal. They are (logical for this alpine country) more efficient during the Winter Games where they have won 9 medals (all in Alpine skiing) !
The Post of Liechtenstein, for over 40 years, is issuing stamps commemorating the summer and winter games. Oddly, the winter games of Salt Lake city in 2002 have been forgotten ?
And it seems to me that this is the very first time that Liechtenstein is devoting this year also two stamps to Paralympic Games in Beijing (marathon and table tennis). Good idea !
