Protection des pôles et des glaciers - 8ème Partie

Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers - Part VIII

Merci beaucoup Benedikt :-)
I showed you yesterday the very educational stamp issued by the Swiss Post as part of the "Preserve the Glaciers and Polar Regions" international campaign.
As a reminder, by tilting this stamp under a light source, one could observe the different levels of the Morteratsch Glacier between 1850 and today.
The Icelandic Post has also issued on 29th of January 2009, a very successful souvenir sheet as part of this campaign, consisting of two stamps (ISK 100 and 130).
This sheet is included on the very nice cover below, mailed on 15th of April 2009 from Reykjavik.
Thank you very much Benedikt :-)

The Icelandic Post has included the official insignia of this campaign initiated by Finland and Chile, a stylized ice crystal, on the two stamp and also on the upper margin of this sheet.
The title in Icelandic of this campaign is also written at the top of the sheet : "Verndun jökla og heimskautasvæða".
This sheet is depicting a view of the Arctic area with, on the foreground, the maps of Greenland and Iceland, which is included on the ISK 130 stamp.
Like the stamp issued by Switzerland, this issue is very educational as it allows to observe the condition of the polar icefield in 2009 (see the red hatched area on the sheet above).

This issue, designed by the Austrian State Printing was made with a four colour offset and the hatched part printed by a photogravure process. Thus, under a heat source, the sheet is depicting the state of the polar icefield in 2100...
As I didn't dare to "mistreat" the sheet on this cover, you can see the impressive result above !
This estimate was made assuming a temperature increase of up to 10°C in the polar regions (and an average temperature increase of 2° to 5°C on earth) during the next 50-100 years.
The Icelandic Post recalls the effects of global warming on the polar regions with a strong impact on the human beings and ecosystems living close to these regions...
