Protection des pôles et des glaciers - 9ème Partie

Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers - Part IX

Here is below the beautiful contribution of the Czech Republic as part of the international campaign entitled "Preserve the Polar Regions and Glaciers" ("OCHRANA POLÁRNÍCH KRAJŮ A LEDOVCŮ" in Czech), launched at the initiative of both Finland and Chile.
The Czech Post has therefore issued on 11st of February 2009 the souvenir sheet below, consisting of a single stamp (Kč 35.00), a pure marvel of mixed recess/offset printing !
Thank you very much Milan for this cover mailed on 16th of April 2009 from Kroměříž :-)

The designer of this sheet, Josef Dudek, and the engraver, Miloš Ondráček, have chosen to depict an Antarctic polar landscape with four Emperor Penguins on a piece of ice in the process of disintegrating under the impact of global warming, particularly important in the Arctic and Antarctic areas.
This global warming will not only lead to the rise of the sea level but also to irreversible climate changes... Mankind is of course responsible for this situation, mainly because of greenhouse gases production.
As on the other stamps issued as part of this international awareness campaign, the stamp and the upper margin of this sheet above are including the official insignia of this campaign, an ice crystal, designed by Finnish Saku Heinänen.
