Habitats traditionnels en Malaisie

Traditional houses in Malaysia

The Malaysian Post has done things in the grand scale : not less than 16 stamps (50 sen each) have been issued on July 9th 2009 in a very interesting series devoted to traditional houses in the country.
The 13 states forming the federation of Malaysia are represented with three lucky states that were entitled to two stamps (Sabah, Sarawak and Pahang).
These houses, often designed with bamboo, wood and palm trees are part of the architectural heritage of the country, each reflecting the culture and know-how of its different ethnic groups.

Three stamps (se-tenant) of this series are included on the nice FDC above with a very original FDC cancellation from the Ipoh philatelic bureau (state of Perak) with the words "Rumah Tradisional" in Malay.
Thank you very much Kkkhor :-)
The stamp above on the left depicts a typical Malayan house of the state of Selangor, which we can find some very close examples in the neighboring state of Melaka. Built on 12 pillars, the structure is designed from different species of wood and the roof from Rumbia and Nipah palm leaves.
The next stamp shows a typical house of the Dusun tribe, the largest in the state of Sabah (Tuaran District). It is designed from mangrove wood, bamboo and palm.
The last stamp depicts a Kutai house, made of bamboo and palm leaves, built along the river in the state of Perak (Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak and Kuala Kangsar).

Merci beaucoup Siew Lan :-)
I also had the chance to receive four other letters mailed on the date of issue but with classic postmarks from the state of Selangor.
Thank you very much Siew Lan :-)
The two stamps on the left on the first letter above already appeared on the FDC mentioned above.
The third stamp on the right is depicting a house with 12 pillars, characteristic of the Kota Bahru region (state of Kelantan) for over 1,000 years. The design of the roof and carved wooden decorations are largely influenced by nearby Thailand.

The stamp in the middle shows a typical Bajau ethnic group's house, built on stilts on the southeast coast of the state of Sabah.
The architectural style of the house shown on the last stamp exists for more than 1000 years and is typical of villages in the state of Pahang. It consists of a long roof and a covered veranda.

The last stamp on the bottom shows a typical long house (Kedah) with its two gables built at both the front and back of the house.
