Ballon monté en Autriche

Balloon Mail in Austria

From 19 to 25 September 2009 took place in Kirchberg in Tirol, in Austrian Tyrol, the 20th International Hot Air Balloon Cup ("Tirol Balloon Cup").
Thirty teams from Austria, Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland have participated in this competition.
On the occasion of this Cup was held on September 22 a special transport mail by balloon between the cities of Kirchberg in Tirol and Brixen im Thale.
I was fortunate enough to receive one of these numbered (No. 000,261 overleaf) mails which traveled aboard this balloon !

Thank you very much Florian for this very interesting philatelic document :-)
I've already mentioned in a previous post the 65c EUROPA stamp used on this letter, issued on June 5, 2009, devoted to the first Austrian nano-satellite.
It's worth noting the nice postmark cancelling the stamp affixed at the start in Kirchberg, with the words "20. Ballonpost" and a reference to a famous body-care brand (what "OE-ZVS" could mean ?). This cancellation also includes the words "BSV Pinkafeld" in reference to the union of stamps collectors of this town in eastern Austria.
The little panda "Tobi" licking a letter in order to seal it, is also on the vignette on the top left on this envelope.
The cancellation on arrival at Brixen im Thale is more classical. Finally, note also the blue balloon-shaped inkpad affixed to the left, during this special trip ("bordstempel" meaning "stamped on board").

The 55c self-adhesive stamp above has also been issued (1,000 copies) on May 6, 2009 to announce this "20th Ballonpost".
This body-care brand, meaning "snow-white" in Latin, is very appropriate on this stamp :-)
The sales revenue of these balloon mails were used to aid the St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute ("St. Anna Kinderkrebsforschung"), as mentioned at the top right on this stamp.
The panda "Tobi" is one of the cuddly toys also sold for the benefit of this Institute.
A very nice philatelic initiative for a very good cause !
