"Bourse aux Timbres" and Deauville in France

Seulement 11 ans après l'émission du 1er timbre-poste français en 1849, des collectionneurs français prirent l'habitude de se réunir à Paris, dans les jardins du Palais-Royal, pour discuter et réaliser des échanges. La Bourse aux timbres vivait alors ses débuts...
Aujourd'hui, cette bourse a été remplacée par un marché aux timbres situé au carré Marigny.
Pour commémorer les 150 ans de cette bourse aux timbres, la poste française a émis un bloc de 5 timbres (gravures d'Yves Beaujard) au style très classique, honorant de grandes personnalités de la philatélie (3 français, 1 américain et 1 italien).

Only 11 years after the issue of the first French postage stamp in 1849, French collectors took the habit of meeting in Paris, in the gardens of the Palais Royal, to discuss and conduct stamp exchanges. The "Bourse aux Timbres" was then born...
Today, this "Bourse aux Timbres" has been replaced by a stamp market located in the Carré Marigny.
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of this "Bourse aux Timbres", the French Post has issued a minisheet of 5 stamps (engraved by Yves Beaujard) designed in a very classic style, honoring great figures of Philately (3 French, one American and one Italian).

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) fut le 32ème président des États-Unis mais surtout un grand collectionneur et philatéliste depuis l'âge de 8 ans. Il supervisa les émissions de timbres de la poste américaine pendant ses 4 mandats de président. La philatélie fut d'ailleurs une thérapie pour lutter contre la paralysie de ses membres inférieurs...
Lucien Berthelot (1903-1985) fut président de la fédération internationale de philatélie entre 1955 et 1971. Son nom a été inscrit en 1986, à titre posthume, au Hall of Fame de l'American Philatelic Society pour sa contribution au développement de la philatélie.
Louis Yvert (1866-1950) fut un précurseur de l'édition philatélique avec la publication d'un catalogue de timbres à partir de 1896. Yvert et Tellier est aujourd'hui reconnue pour ses cotations de timbres dans le monde entier. La vente "1er jour" de ce bloc avait d'ailleurs également lieu à Amiens où est situé son siège social.
Arthur Maury (1844-1907), parfois surnommé "le père de la philatélie", consacra sa vie à l'étude des timbres à travers de nombreux ouvrages et catalogues et fonda la Maison Arthur Maury en 1860.
Alberto Bolaffi (1874-1944) fut une figure importante du négoce philatélique italien, un grand collectionneur et marchand de timbres.
Je ne suis pas un grand fan de ce bloc-feuillet mais je vous laisse admirer les détails intéressants des scènes figurant dans les marges !

Lucien Berthelot (1903-1985) was president of the International Federation of Philately between 1955 and 1971. His name was inscribed in 1986, posthumously, on the Hall of Fame of the American Philatelic Society for his contribution to the development of philately.
Louis Yvert (1866-1950) was a forerunner of the philatelic edition with the publication of a catalog of stamps from 1896. Yvert and Tellier is now internationally recognized for its catalogues of stamps. The preview sale of this minisheet was also besides held in Amiens where are located the Yvert and Tellier headquarters.
Arthur Maury (1844-1907), sometimes nicknamed the "Father of Philately", dedicated his life to the study of stamps through many books and catalogues and founded the Maison Arthur Maury in 1860.
Alberto Bolaffi (1874-1944) was an important Italian trading stamps figure, a great stamp collector and dealer.
I'm not really keen concerning this souvenir sheet but I let you admire the interesting details of the different scenes in the margins !

Pour commémorer les 150 ans de la fondation de la ville de Deauville (Calvados), célèbre et chic station balnéaire de la côte fleurie, la poste française a émis, le 17 mai 2010, un timbre dont le graphisme est sensé symboliser le nouveau positionnement de la ville : rencontre et partage, plaisir et mieux-être, culture et créativité... tout un programme !
Ce timbre coloré figure sur le FDC ci-dessus avec un timbre à date évoquant la densification du temps avec ce slogan "Temps et Plus". J'avoue que c'est un concept un peu abstrait pour moi...

Cette notion du temps est évoquée sur ce timbre avec cette horloge. Les 3 autres éléments formant l'année 2010 évoquent d'autres symboles de la ville : le ballon et le parasol pour sa plage et le cheval (courses hippiques, championnat de polo). Les célèbres "planches" de Deauville figurent logiquement au 1er plan !
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the founding of the town of Deauville (Normandy), this famous and chic place of the "Côte fleurie", the French post has issued, on May 17, 2010, a new stamp with a design supposed to symbolize the new city's positioning : meeting and sharing, fun and well-being, culture and creativity...what a program !
This colorful stamp is icnluded on the FDC above with a postmark referring to time's intensification with the words "Temps et Plus" ("Time and More"). I've to admit that it's a rather abstract concept for me...

This notion of time is evoked on this stamp with this clock. The three remaining components of the year 2010 are evoking some other symbols of the city : the ball and sun umbrella for the beach and the horse (horse racing, polo championship). The famous "Planches" (promenade along by the coast) of Deauville are also logically featured at the foreground !
