Expo 2010 à Hong Kong et en Autriche

Expo 2010 in Hong Kong and Austria

On April 30, 2010, the biggest world exhibition of all time was officially opened by Chinese President in Shanghai.
Until October 31, 2010, nearly 100 million visitors (95% of Chinese) are expected to visit the pavilions of nearly 190 countries and international organizations (including UN) built on a site of more than 5 km² (more than 40 billion euros invested by the city of Shanghai).
The theme of this Expo is "Better City, Better Life" by highlighting the role of man in the city, the urban mix of cultures, technological innovation and sustainable development, interaction between cities and countryside...

Many postal administrations have already celebrated this Expo 2010 by issuing commemorative series, such as Hong Kong above or Austria below.
Thank you very much Michel for this beautiful FDC issued on April 27, 2010 above including a special souvenir sheet consisting of four colorful stamps dedicated to the Hong Kong's participation in this Expo 2010 :-)
The Hong Kong pavilion, whose theme is "Potential Unlimited, an infinite city", is featured on the left on this envelope and in the lower right on each of four stamps. The green official logo of the Expo 2010 (included in the right margin of this sheet) is inspired by the calligraphy of the Chinese character 世 (shì) meaning "world", with these three characters together symbolizing understanding, communication, unity and cooperation...
Through these four stamps, the Post of Hong Kong wanted to evoke the cultural traditions (Dragon Dance), a vibrant eco-city (green leaf), the transport network connecting Hong Kong to China and the rest of the world (Tsing Ma Bridge) and technological innovation (smart card).

The Austrian Post has also commemorated the country's participation in this Shanghai Expo by issuing, on April 30, 2010, a special souvenir sheet dedicated to one of Austria's most famous personalities in the world (with Mozart !), Empress Elizabeth (Sisi).
Her famous portrait with diamond stars in her hair, painted by Winterhalter in 1865 and kept at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, is reproduced on this stamp that includes the mention "Austria" (instead of "Österreich"), as Austrian Post is used to do concerning "international" theme's stamps.
Thank you very much Edna for this beautiful FDC :-)
The famous Schönbrunn Palace, summer residence of the imperial court in Vienna, appears in the left margin on this sheet. The logo of the Austrian Pavilion at Shanghai, based on the Chinese character meaning "man" is also included on the lower left on this sheet. This red logo also symbolizes an open door welcoming the world.
It's worth noting the very impressive FDC cancellation issued in Vienna, featuring the same Chinese character (世) than the one which inspired the logo of this Expo 2010.
Edna has completed her postage with one of the two vending machine stamps, issued on January 7, 2010, representing flowers (daisies and waterlilies). The word "Sonderpostamt" refering to the special temporary post office opened on April 30, 2010 at the Philatelic shop in Vienna, where the preview sale of this souvenir sheet took place.

France is also participating at the Shanghai Expo 2010 with a pavilion (whose theme is "the sensual city") without any originality and audacity in my opinion...
This pavilion is included on the stamp above which will be curiously issued by the French Post only on June 20, 2010, the last day of the next Stamp Exhibition ("Salon du Timbre") in Paris ??
