Histoire des Trois Royaumes à Taïwan

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms in Taiwan

This novel was written by Luo Guanzhong in the 14th century based on a work by Chen Shou (3rd century). Divided into 120 chapters, it recounts differents events that took place between the end of the Han Dynasty (169) and the reunification of the land in 280 during the Three Kingdoms (Wei, Shu and Wu) era.
The Post of Taiwan has issued four new stamps at this occasion also issued in the beautiful souvenir sheet included on the FDC below. Thank you very much Cheng :-)
I let you admire the beauty and details of the two special postmarks (different from the official FDC cancellation) inspired by the scene of the NT $ 3.50 stamp on the top right !

Each of these four stamps (designed by Lin Hsing-hsiung) is inspired by an episode of a particular chapter, the main episodes of this novel being the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the Battle of the Red Cliff (that inspired the film "Red Cliff" by John Woo released in 2008), the Battle of Yi Ling...
The four stamps above are evoking the following episodes :
-"Shooting an arrow at the halberd beside the gate of the camp" (Chapter 16), an episode that led to a cease-fire between Ji Ling and Liu Bei.
-"Commenting on heroes over wine" (chapter 21), evoking the meeting between Cao Cao and Liu Bei.
-"Zhou Yu's anger of being tricked by Zhuge Liang three times" (Chapter 56), evoking the wailing of Zhou Yu, incapable of defeating Zhuge Liang.
-"Holding Meng Huo captive seven times" (Chapters 87 to 90), referring to the surrender of King Meng Huo against the army of Zhuge Liang, after having been captured and released seven times.
This "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is one of the "Four Great Classical Novels" of Chinese literature with "Water Margin", "Journey to the West" and "Dream of the Red Chamber".
