Culture de Cucuteni en Moldavie

Cucuteni Culture in Moldova

Through its first set of stamps issued in 2011, the Post of Moldova allows us to discover a particular culture dating from the Neolithic period, between 5,000 and 4,000 BC, which extended from north-eastern current Romania to Ukraine, including the today's territory of the Republic of Moldova.
This culture, called Cucuteni-Trypillia was characterized by very large cities at the time and a culture of unique painted pottery.
This is this cultural aspect that the Poşta Moldovei has wanted to share with these three new stamps, designed by Alexandr Kornienko, issued on January 25, 2011 !

This complete series appears on the beautiful official FDC (issued in 500 copies only) above with a FDC postmark from Chişinău, featuring the three pieces of pottery of this series. Thank you very much Sergio :-)
The decoration of these Cucuteni culture's pottery, consisting primarily of incisions, became monochrome and then bicolor or tricolor (white, red and black) over time.
The illustration of this envelope above depicts the hall of the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Chişinău, where these three ceramic pieces are exhibited : anthropomorphic amphora with its lid discovered in Rădulenii Vechi, located in the district of Floreşti (L 0.85), bitronconic vase with zoomorphic patterns discovered in Vărvăreuca, district of Floreşti (L 1.20) and bitronconic vase with anthropomorphic patterns found in Sofia, district of Drochia (L 8.50).

To note that these three stamps have the particularity of having been issued both in the set above and in the nice souvenir sheet (printing run : 15,000) above consisting of a L 0.85 stamp, a L 8.50 stamp and two L 1.20 stamps.
The stamps of the series are however different from those included on this souvenir sheet (the central margin featuring the entrance of the National Museum of Archaeology and History) !
Each of the single stamps includes indeed an oval notch in the horizontal perforation whereas the stamps of the sheet have been designed with this same notch but included on the vertical perforation !
