125 ans de l'automobile en Allemagne

125 years of motorcar in Germany

A short post to share with you this interesting souvenir mailed from the 21th edition of the International Philatelic Exhibition held in Essen from May 5 to May 7, 2011.
Thank you very much Igor for this prepaid cover mailed on May 5, 2011 :-)
The stamp (€ 0.55) has the same design as the stamp issued on May 5, 2011, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the first motorcar.
To note the interesting postmark depicting this same first motor vehicle and a current car by the German manufacturer Mercedes Benz...

So 125 years ago (on July 3, 1886 to be exact), Carl Benz filed in Mannheim the patent for his first vehicle, including three wheels, powered by a gasoline engine, for the Benz & Co firm.
That day marks the birth of the modern automobile.
This is this motorized tricycle, that was traveling at the time at a speed of 16 km/h, that is featured on this stamp and on the illustration of the envelope (with also a portrait of Carl Benz).
To note that a commemorative coin of € 10, referring to this same anniversary, has also been issued and that some other postal administrations (Macedonia for example) have also issued stamps depicting this same first motorcar in history...
