A tribute to Alan B. Shepard in Moldova

Le 12 avril 2011, la poste de Moldavie a mis en circulation une oblitération spéciale consacrée au 50ème anniversaire du 1er vol spatial habité avec le cosmonaute soviétique Youri Gagarine.
J'avais évoqué ce timbre à date à travers la splendide lettre reçue de Moldavie publiée sur ce blog le 23 avril 2011.
Cette lettre était affranchie avec, entre autres, le bloc-feuillet émis le 9 avril 2011, composé de 4 timbres évoquant les 4 premiers hommes (2 soviétiques et 2 américains) à avoir voyagé dans l'espace en 1961.
On April 12, 2011, the Post of Moldova has put into circulation a special cancellation devoted to the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight with the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
I had mentioned this postmark through the beautiful letter from Moldova published on this blog on April 23, 2011.
This cover was franked with, among others, the souvenir sheet issued on April 9, 2011, consisting of four stamps evoking the first four men (two Soviet and two U.S.) having traveled into space in 1961.

Le 5 mai 2011, la poste moldave a émis une nouvelle oblitération spéciale commémorant cette fois le 50ème anniversaire (jour pour jour) du voyage dans l'espace de l'astronaute Alan B. Shepard, le 2ème homme (après Gagarine) et le 1er américain, à bord d'une capsule Mercury-Redstone 3, lors d'un vol sub-orbital de 15 minutes seulement...
C'est cette oblitération qui figure en haut à droite sur la carte spéciale ci-dessus (tirage : 600 exemplaires seulement) postée le jour d'émission de Chişinău.

On May 5, 2011, the Moldovan Post has issued a new special cancellation commemorating this time the 50th anniversary (to the day) of the travel in space by astronaut Alan B. Shepard, the second man (after Gagarin) and the first American, aboard a Mercury-Redstone 3 capsule, during a sub-orbital flight of 15 minutes...
This is this cancellation that appears in the upper right on the special card above (circulation : 600 copies only) mailed on the day of issue from Chişinău.

L'autre face de cette carte ci-dessus est affranchie avec le timbre (avec vignette attenante) consacré à Alan B. Shepard, faisant partie du bloc-feuillet émis le 9 avril 2011.
Un portrait d'Alan B. Shepard (1923-1998) ainsi que l'amerrissage de sa capsule Mercury-Redstone 3 lors de son retour sur terre le 5 mai 1961 sont représentés sur cette carte.
A noter que Shepard sera également le commandant de la mission Apollo 14 qui se posera sur la lune le 5 février 1971.
Je suppose que la poste moldave va également émettre, le 21 juillet 2011 et le 6 août 2011, de nouvelles oblitérations spéciales consacrées respectivement aux voyages dans l'espace de l'américain Virgil Grissom et du soviétique Guerman Titov ?
The other side of this card above is franked with the stamp (and its attached coupon) devoted to Alan B. Shepard, part of the souvenir sheet issued on April 9, 2011.
A portrait of Alan B. Shepard (1923-1998) and the sea landing of his Mercury-Redstone 3 capsule during its return to earth on May 5, 1961 are featured on this card.
To note that Shepard was also the commander of the Apollo 14 mission which landed on the moon on February 5, 1971.
I guess that the Post of Moldova will also issue, on July 21, 2011 and August 6, 2011, some new special postmarks devoted respectively to space travel of U.S. Virgil Grissom and Soviet Gherman Titov ? wait and see...
