100 ans du théâtre municipal de São Paulo

100 years of the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo

Le 12 septembre 1911, le théâtre municipal ("Theatro Municipal") de São Paulo était inauguré après 8 ans de travaux, remplaçant alors le théâtre São José ravagé par un incendie.
La poste brésilienne a émis, 100 ans après jour pour jour, un timbre commémoratif consacré au 100ème anniversaire de ce théâtre devenu un des lieux culturels les plus importants d'Amérique du sud.
C'est ce timbre (2 R$, 600000 exemplaires), conçu par Juliana Souza, qui figure sur le souvenir Premier Jour ci-dessous posté le 29 septembre 2011 de... São Paulo !

On September 12, 1911, the Municipal Theatre ("Teatro Municipal") of São Paulo was opened after eight years of construction, then replacing the São José Theatre destroyed by fire.
The Brazilian Post has issued, after 100 years to the day, a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of this Theatre that has became today one of the most important cultural places in South America.
That stamp (R$ 2.00, 600,000 copies), designed by Juliana Souza, appears on the FDC souvenir below mailed on September 29, 2011 from... São Paulo !

Cet édifice abrite aujourd'hui l'orchestre symphonique municipal, le choeur lyrique et le ballet de la ville de São Paulo.
La construction du théâtre a été supervisée par l'ingénieur Ramos de Azevedo avec l'aide de 2 architectes italiens Claudio et Domiziano Rossi. L'architecture aurait été inspirée de la Scala de Milan et de l'opéra Garnier de Paris.
Ce lieu est connu également pour avoir accueilli en février 1922 la "Semana de Arte Moderna" ("Semaine d'art moderne") considéré comme le point de départ du mouvement artistique moderniste brésilien ("Modernismo") dans différents domaines (peinture, théâtre, poésie, musique, littérature...).
This building now houses the municipal symphonic orchestra, the lyric choir and the city ballet of São Paulo.
The construction of the theater was overseen by engineer Ramos de Azevedo helped by the two Italian architects Claudio and Domiziano Rossi. The architecture was inspired by the Teatro alla Scala of Milan and the Opera Garnier of Paris.
This place is also known for having hosted in February 1922 the "Semana de Arte Moderna" ("Week of Modern Art") considered as the starting point of the Brazilian modernist art movement ("Modernismo") in many areas (painting, theater , poetry, music, literature...).
