30 ans du TGV - Premier Jour

30 Years of TGV high-speed train - First Day of Issue

February 26, 1981 : the French TGV (high-speed train) was breaking its first world speed record (380 km/h).
September 22, 1981 : Inauguration of the South-East TGV railway line (orange) by French President François Mitterrand.
September 27, 1981 : commissioning of the South-East line between Paris and Lyon (409 km).
Thirty years later, to the day, the French Post has issued a special stamp devoted to this inauguration of the TGV, that has become so familiar to the French over the years.
It is that stamp (€ 0.60) that appears on the three FDC below.

The preview sale of this stamp took indeed place on September 27, 2011 in Lyon (at the "Part-Dieu" train station), Paris and Strasbourg.
The FDC souvenir from Lyon above has unfortunately (once again !) been massacred during the passage of this letter to the "Lyon Centre" sorting mail center (22160A).
I apologize in advance to my French and foreign friends who have already received or will receive soon this cover, sabotaged by the French Post :((
I'd like to know when the French Post will one day take measures to create a specific circuit in the mail sorting centers devoted to these philatelic items ??

The same FDC cancellation was offered to the public in Strasbourg. Thank you very much Olivier for this cover above that fortunately reached me without any superfluous mechanical cancellation :-)
The city of Strasbourg was probably chosen to symbolize the evolution of the TGV from 1981 with the launch of of the East high-speed (unfinished) railway line in 2007.
Concerning the stamp (printing run : 2 million), it reproduces a photograph by Jean-Marc Fabbro featuring a TGV Duplex train, mainly used on the South-East high-speed line.

Jean-Paul Cousin has also designed the FDC postmark used in Paris, different from the ones used in Lyon and Strasbourg.
Thank you very much Roland for this FDC souvenir from the "Carré d'Encre" in Paris :-)
Roland has used the self-adhesive version of this stamp (printing run ?), with a slight shift of the picture to the right !
France has now nearly 1,900 km of high speed railway lines and 2,000 km of new lines should normally be built by 2020.
It's worth also noting that, since 1984, a postal TGV (yellow) run every night mainly on the South-East high-speed line. I will speak again about it very soon in link with the official launch today of the new "Green Letter" ("Lettre Verte") Marianne definitive stamp series...

Last Minute (October 16th 2011) : After a claim at the main post office of Lyon Bellecour following the sabotage of the First Day Cover from Lyon published above, Laurent Jacob, postal headmaster, has sent me this new cover above :)
