Championnats du monde d'haltérophilie en France

World Weightlifting Championships in France

30 years that France was waiting for organizing the World Weightlifting Championships...
The Disneyland Paris resort will host the 79th edition of these World Championships from 5 to 13 November 2011.

For the occasion, the French Post has issued a souvenir sheet consisting of two round stamps evoking the two weights of a weightlifting bar.
I was lucky to receive the two FDC souvenirs below with postmarks from Paris ("Carré d'Encre") dated October 7, 2011.
Thank you very much Joël and Roland :-)

The FDC cancellation reproduces the official logo of these World Championships symbolizing a weightlifter profile in the movement of the clean and jerk.
It is that same movement that the French athlete performs on the € 0.89 stamp, the other stamp (€ 0.60) featuring the snatch movement with this man bearing the colors of the France team.
The 22nd edition of Women's World Championships (7 weight classes, eight for men) will also take place in Paris at the same time.
To note that in order to respect the perspective, these stamps have two different diameters (43 and 49 mm), which I believe should be a First on the same sheet issued in France...

I'll let you make your own opinion but I find this series, designed by Thierry Mordant, just horrible ! It seems that this sheet is coming straight from the depths of North Korea, no ?
And what a great originality to have depicted the Eiffel Tower to symbolize Paris, and why not Mickey and Minnie ?
Even this Eiffel Tower is also unsuccessful since the structure on the top floor is so disproportionate compared with the base, making this monument too massive and not slender :((
In short, a series to forget quickly (this is moreover what seems to think the athlete on the stamp to the left...) !
