Drôle de timbre EUROPA 2011 en Autriche !

A so strange EUROPA 2011 stamp from Austria !

The Austrian Post, in collaboration with the country's Office of Forests (Österreichische Bundesforste AG), has indeed innovated concerning the design of its EUROPA 2011 stamp issued on September 8, devoted to Forests this year !
It is indeed a sheet-packet, designed by Michael Rosenfeld, that has been issued at 180,000 copies for this occasion, containing several seeds of spruce (conifer) from the Austrian regions of Tyrol, Salzkammergut, Waldviertel, Steiermark and Carinthia.
The Austrian Post has even chosen the date of issue of this souvenir sheet in order that it coincides with the best period of the year to plant these seeds !

It is therefore this souvenir sheet being part of this packet that appears on the nice cover above mailed on September 23, 2011 from Vienna.
Thank you very much Edna :-)

To note that the postmark ("10 years of Leopold Museum") was issued for another stamp about which I will speak very soon on this blog...
This stamp (€ 1.70) features some lower trunks of conifers firmly rooted in the ground with a satellite (green !) view of Austria included in the margins of the sheet.
This sheet is also mentioning that 2011 was declared International Year of Forests ("Jahr des Waldes 2011") by the United Nations (but without the word "International" here).
It is worth noting, to conclude, that Austria, with almost half of its territory covered with forests, had already issued, on June 15, 2011, a round stamp entitled "Austria, country of forests"...
