Journée mondiale de la Poste 2011 en Malaisie

World Post Day 2011 in Malaysia

Merci beaucoup Kkkhor :-)
To mark the Stamp Week and to commemorate the World Post Day (held each year on October 9th), the Post of Malaysia has issued on October 10, 2011, an interesting series of stamps devoted to post boxes ("Petipos" in Malay) of the country at different times.
Five gummed stamps (1 RM each) have been issued in sheet of 20 stamps (4 horizontal stripes) and five self-adhesive stamps issued in the same booklet of 10 stamps (2 pairs of each).
The five stamps (60 sen each) of this booklet appear on the beautiful official FDC of the Malaysian Post below, with a funny postmark from the city of Ipoh (State of Perak) featuring a dog chasing a postman !
Thank you very much Kkkhor :-)

On these five stamps, a mailbox is shown in the foreground with the site where it is located in the background.
We can thus find a box, dating from the Victorian period, located on the tourist site of Bukit Bendera (Pulau Pinang), a place made up of several rocky peaks including Penang Hill and its famous funicular.
The following stamp shows the clock tower and the old post office of the former colonial site of Fraser's Hill (Bukit Fraser) in the State of Pahang.
The port city of Bandar Melaka (Malacca city), one of the oldest in the country (a UNESCO World Heritage site), is depicted on the central stamp above.
The splendid State Museum of Seremban, the capital of the State of Negeri Sembilan, is depicted on the following stamp. This former wooden royal palace was dismantled in 1953 and rebuilt on its current place...
The last stamp to the right features the General Post Office of Kuala Lumpur, completed in 1984.
To note the illustration on the envelope that, curiously, features the railway station of the city of Ipoh (nicknamed the "Taj Mahal of Ipoh") built in 1917 during the reign of George V...

The other side of this FDC above is also interesting because different types of mailboxes are depicted, from the Victorian era to today !
The first red cylindrical mailboxes installed in the country are reminding us that, before its independence in 1957, Malaysia was a British protectorate...
The different monograms of British monarchs (Victoria, Edward VII, George V, George VI, Elizabeth II) and the successive logos of the Malaysian Post are associated with different boxes above.
To note finally that this theme of mailboxes is really relevant since the postal organization UPAEP has also chose this topic for its stamps issues in 2011 !
