Un curieux timbre de Noël en Lettonie...

A very curious Christmas stamp from Latvia...

I'm definitely not interested (Philatelic speaking) by this theme of Christmas, New Year's greetings or Chinese new years but I've to admit that the meeting of this New Year of the Dragon and Santa Claus on this Christmas Latvian series, issued on December 2, 2011, made me smile !
I don't actually remember such a mix of genres on stamps issued recently so congratulations to the Latvian artist Ludis Danilāns who has designed this set of two stamps devoted respectively to Christmas and New Year's greetings ("Laimīgu jauno gadu !").

It's this last stamp (0.60 Lats, print run : 300,000) that appears on the Latvian Post's official FDC above issued at 1,500 copies. Thank you very much Juris :-)
To note the FDC cancellation, also designed by Ludis Danilāns, with this funny reindeer head.
On the illustration of this envelope, Santa Claus is pulling a sled on which sits a dragon (referring then to this Chinese New Year beginning on January 23 2012).
Should we assume that this dragon has devoured the Santa's reindeer ??
To note also the blue inkmark above including the logo of the Latvian Post as well as the words "Priecīgus svētkus" ("Season's Greetings" in Latvian). The words "Apsveikumu namiņš" refers to the stand of the Latvian Post, located on Cathedral Square in Riga, where this postmark was offered to the public.
The Latvian Post has (unfortunately !) joined in 2010 (Year of the Rabbit) the growing list of postal administrations issuing stamps dedicated to Chinese New Year...
