60 ans de Petrusmok à Maurice - enveloppe commémorative

60th Anniversary of Petrusmok in Mauritius - Commemorative cover

On February 6, 1951, the Mauritian poet, writer and painter Malcolm de Chazal (1902-1981) published his book "Petrusmok" and gave thus to Mauritius its essential myth...
Malcolm de Chazal used to describe his country like an enchanted place retaining only the magic of colors and shapes, the power of matter.
It is this particular view, combined with an intense spiritual and mystic life, that inspired him the writting of Petrusmok, the name he gave to the island in this book.

On September 12, 2011 (the anniversary of his birth), the Post of Mauritius has released the special cover above to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the publication of Petrusmok, but also the 30th anniversary of the death of Malcolm de Chazal.
Thank you very much David for this very interesting philatelic piece sent from Port-Louis on December 3, 2011 :-)
This letter was originally franked on September 12, 2011 in Vacoas, his hometown, with a stamp (Rs 7) depicting the Corps de Garde Mountain (720 m, having the appearance of a person lying with an impressive nose) located nearby. This stamp is part of a series of four stamps issued on March 11, 2004, devoted to different peaks of Mauritius.
David has completed his postage with a stamp (Rs 20), issued on November 30, 2009, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the capture of Rodrigues Island by British troops.

David attached to his letter the card above featuring the mythical map of Mauritius by Malcolm de Chazal as well as some extracts from Petrusmok.
This book of 580 pages was written in 170 days by Malcolm de Chazal who then lived an intense quest throughout the island and its mountains, which would have been carved by giants living in the legendary continent of Lemuria, now submerged, and Mauritius would be today one of the Lemuria's emerging peaks...
