A very special Year of Mountains 2002 in Canada

Merci beaucoup Garnet :-)
To celebrate mountain, its geology, ecosystems and interaction with humans (sports, culture...), 2002 had been designated "International Year of Mountains" by the UN General Assembly.
Many postal administrations had then issued stamps devoted to this Year of Mountains (Nepal, Liechtenstein, Armenia, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Iceland, United Nations, Andorra...) but the most original series was undoubtedly issued by the Canadian Post with a set of eight very special stamps !
It's that complete series, issued on October 1, 2002, that appears on the beautiful cover below mailed on January 13, 2012 from Calgary. Thank you very much Garnet :-)

Canada Post has called upon the company Q30 Design Inc. from Toronto to design of this series of 8 self-adhesive stamps evoking the highest peaks on seven continents of the globe as well as Mount Logan (5,959 m), the highest mountain of Canada.
The other mountains featured are : Mount Elbrus (5633 m, Russian Caucasus) for Europe, Puncak Jaya (4,884 m, Indonesian New Guinea) for Oceania, Mount Everest (8,850 m, Nepal and China) for Asia, Kilimanjaro (5,894 m, Tanzania) for Africa, Mount Vinson (4,897 m) for Antarctica, Aconcagua (6,962m, Argentina) for South America and Mount McKinley (6,194 m , USA) for North America.
These eight imperforated stamps are arranged in a very entertaining way on a circular support indicating the location of the eight peaks of a world map. The top margin of each stamp also includes the year of the first ascent of the mountain in question as well as a small circular sticker depicting an emblematic fauna species of these eight regions.
What a really great job !
