Ma première lettre du Lesotho !

My first cover from Lesotho !

Very happy to share with you today this first letter received from Lesotho, this little landlocked Kingdom in South Africa !
Thank you very much Mike for this colorful cover mailed on October 30, 2012 from the capital, Maseru :-)
A reference to France with the souvenir sheet issued in 1992 to the right (issued with another similar sheet) on the occasion of the Winter Olympics in Albertville. The stamp (5 Maloti) is dedicated to figure skating with the Japanese athlete Midori Ito who finished second at these games...

Another link with France through the stamp in the upper left (40 sente) issued in 1983 in a set of 4 stamps commemorating the 150th anniversary of the arrival of French missionaries in Lesotho (Paris Evangelical Missionary Society). These missionaries, Thomas Arbousset, Eugene Casalis et Constant Gosselin, played an important role in agricultural and educational development of this territory then led by Moshoeshoe.
The stamp at 25 sente is part of a series of 4 stamps issued in 1983 featuring some prehistoric rock paintings in the country.
The last stamp (1 Maloti) is part of another set of 4 stamps issued in 1986 to announce the FIFA World Cup held in Mexico.
Finally, to note the presence of the flag of Lesotho (used between 1987 and 2006) on this envelope to the left as well as the Airmail label in French and Sesotho, one of the two official country's languages with English.
