Championnats du monde de karaté - TAD spécial

Karate World Championships - Special postmark

In a post published on September 10, 2012 on this blog, I had already shared with you an interesting first day cover of September 7, 2012 devoted to the souvenir sheet issued by the French Post on the occasion of the 21th edition of the Karate World Championships held in Paris from 21 to 25 November 2012.
As a reminder, this sheet (print run : 1,350,000) consisted of three stamps (€ 0.89 each) designed by Olivier Ciappa and David Kawena (Catharsis Productions) in a "Manga" style.

On the first day of these Karate world championships, a special postmark was also issued, featuring a karateka and the Eiffel Tower.
I was lucky enough to receive the cover above mailed on November 21, 2012 from the "Carré d'Encre" in Paris, franked with one of the three stamps of the souvenir sheet and including this special cancellation :-)
The athlete on this stamp is making a "yokotobi geri", a lateral jumped kick, which is also the case on the postmark. To note the presence of a rising sun evoking Japan, the country of origin of Karate, in the background on this stamp.
France has finished at the first place in the national rankings (ahead of Japan and Italy) at these world championships with 13 medals (7 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze). To note that these seven gold medals have all been won in fight events (Kumite).
