Médaillés olympiques timbrifiés en Lettonie

Olympic medalists on new Latvian stamps

Merci beaucoup Juris :-)
The Latvian Post had discreetly announced the 30th edition of the Summer Olympic Games in London by issuing, on July 14th 2012, a single stamp (women's javelin throw) without any Olympic mention (rings, logo of the games...).
On November 23, 2012, the Latvian Post has, however, issued two stamps (0.35 Lats, print run : 20,000) to pay tribute to the Latvian Olympic medalists in London : Māris Štrombergs (gold in men's BMX) and the pair Mārtiņš Pļaviņš/Jānis Šmēdiņš (bronze in men's beach volleyball).
It is that second stamp that appears on the First Day Cover below mailed from the Sport Museum in Riga (this Museum's logo is included on this envelope at the top left). Thank you very much Juris :-)

Mārtiņš Pļaviņš, who was the flag bearer of the Latvian delegation (46 athletes competing in 12 sports) at the opening ceremony of these Olympic Games in London, has allowed (with Jānis Šmēdiņš) Latvia to win its first Olympic medal in beach volleyball.
Māris Štrombergs has also inscribed his name in the Olympic history of the country by prolonging his Olympic title in BMX won in Beijing in 2008. A stamp had already been issued in his honor on October 24, 2008, which was not the case for the other two 2008 medalists (silver in javelin throw and bronze in weightlifting)...
To note that the logo of the London Olympics is this time well included on these two stamps.
Juris has also used a stamp, issued on August 5, 2005, being part of the definitive series devoted to coats of arms of Latvian cities, Jūrmala here (a seaside resort sometimes known as the "St. Tropez of Latvia").
