Série "JO de Londres" en Irlande

"London Olympics" stamp set from Ireland

Merci beaucoup YL Phuah :-)
For its 20th participation (since 1924) at the Summer Olympics, the Irish team has won 5 medals at the last London Games, the country's most successful Olympics since 1956.
Composed of 66 athletes (36 men and 30 women) competing in 14 sports, Ireland has indeed gathered five medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze) including 4 in boxing only. The country had not won Olympic gold medal since the Atlanta Games in 1996...
The Irish postal service (An Post) has issued, on July 19th 2012, a nice set of two stamps dedicated to the participation of the Irish team (Team Ireland / Foireann Éireann) at these London Games.
This series appears on the letter below, unfortunately without any cancellation, mailed from Dublin. Thank you very much YL Phuah :-)

Created by Red Dog Design, these two stamps (55c, 82c) have been issued each in sheet of 16 stamps.
The 55c stamp (print run : 174,000) shows a graphical interpretation of a medal podium at the Olympic Games, a symbol of success and national pride.
I really like the other 82c stamp (print run : 138,000) with these 5 vertical sticks (a reference to the five Olympic rings ?) suggesting the proximity of the Green Ireland with London and Great Britain, separated only by the Irish Sea (blue stick in the middle) !
To note finally the inconspicuous presence of the (gray) logo of these London games in the top left on these two stamps.
