Papillon sur ma 1ère lettre du Guyana !

Butterfly on my first cover from Guyana !

Thank you very much Vishal for this letter, mailed on 12.12.12 (!) from the Berbice-Corentyne Region located in Eastern Guyana, along the border with neighboring Suriname :-)
The Co-operative Republic of Guyana (not to be confused with French Guiana), formerly British Guiana, is the only South American country whose official language is English.
The illustration to the left on this envelope shows the Kaieteur Falls (226 meters high), one of the most famous tourist sites of the country, situated on the river Potaro in the rainforest of the Kaieteur National Park.

Philatelic speaking, Guyana is (was ?) one of these countries, like some Caribbean islands, issuing a plethora of stamps and souvenir sheets often having not much things to do with the country itself...
I'm happy because Vishal has used a stamp on his letter having a link with his country. This stamp ($ 160 or € 0.60 approx) is part of a definitive series issued in 2003 (exact date ?) devoted to different species of butterflies living in Guyana, a White Peacock (Anartia jatrophae) here.
This butterfly is found mainly in the Caribbean, Central and South America (Suriname, Guyana, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay).
