Site archéologique de Ratu Boko en Indonésie

Ratu Boko archaeological site in Indonesia

Keraton Ratu Boko ("Ratu Boko's Palace") is a site built in the 8th century in the center of the island of Java (at the time of the Kingdom of Mataram), long before the most famous Borobudur and Prambanan temples...
Contrary to the vestiges of religious buildings found in this part of Indonesia, this archaeological site of Ratu Boko seems to have been a place of residence, even if we do not know today what was its exact function...
The name of Ratu Boko (which means "King Heron" in Javanese) has been given to this site by local people in reference to the father of Loro Jongrang, the name of the neighboring main temple of Prambanan.

On February 20, 2013, the Indonesian Post has issued an interesting series of two stamps dedicated to this archaeological site.
These two stamps were issued in a single sheet of 20 stamps (10 of each) with a central margin showing an aerial view of a part of this Ratu Boko's Palace.
A part of this margin is included to the left on this nice cover above, between these two stamps, each in two copies here. Thank you very much Irene for this letter sent on September 13, 2013 from the city of Malang :-)
One of the two stamps depicts the main gate of this Palace while the other one refers to a Javanese dance, Sumunaring Abhayagiri, performed on this site and telling the story of the royal family who lived there.
Composed of a hundred dancers, this contemporary show respecting the traditional values of Javanese dance, was developed jointly with the department of dance of the State University of Yogyakarta.
