Congrès régionaux de philatélie - TAD spéciaux

Regional Philatelic Congress - Special postmarks

On 5 and 6 April 2014, the 8th Congress of the "Groupement Rhône-Alpes de Philatélie" ("Rhône-Alpes Philatelic Group") was held in my city of Lyon, in the offices of the 8th arrondissement's town hall.
On this occasion, a temporary post office offered to the public a special postmark referring to the 9 departments being part of this group (VIII within the FFAP) created in 2006 and composed of 37 philatelic associations.
To note that the southern part of Ardèche is part of the Group XII (Languedoc-Roussillon) and the north of Saône-et-Loire of the group VII (Bourgogne Franche-Comté).

It is that cancellation that was applied on the cover above sent from this congress where youth (6 collections) and adult (16 collections) competitive philatelic exhibitions were organized.
The organization of this congress was supported by the philatelic association "Les cheminots philatélistes lyonnais" ("Lyon's Railway stamp collectors") which explains the presence of a TGV train on this special postmark (designed by Pierre Laberny, a member of this association).
The stamp above ("Priority Letter 20g" rate) is part of the booklet "Smiles" consisting of 10 self-adhesive stamps, issued on September 20, 2006, devoted to the cartoon character Cubitus, a good-natured large, white dog endowed with speech.

That same weekend took also place the 60th Regional Congress of the Languedoc-Roussillon and South Ardèche Philatelic Group (GPLR), in the town of Canet-en-Roussillon (Pyrénées- Orientales), the nearest seaside resort from Perpignan.
This Group (XII within the FFAP) consists of 19 philatelic associations in the five departments of the Languedoc-Roussillon region as well as in the south part of Ardèche.
At this Congress and regional philatelic championship, organized by the "club philatélique de la Côte Radieuse", some philatelic souvenirs were proposed such as the one above with a personalized stamp ("MonTimbraMoi" type) and a special postmark. Thank you very much Thomas :-)
The illustration on this envelope as well as that stamp show a Catalan boat in the port of Canet-en-Roussillon. This traditional fishing boat from the west coast of the Mediterranean Sea was widely used in the early 20th century to fish (with nets) sardines or anchovies.
