Jean Jaurès à l'Assemblée Nationale

For the fifth time since 1936, the French Post has paid tribute to Jean Jaurès (1859-1914) by issuing (preview sale on June 17, 2014) a diptych (€ 0.61 and € 1.02) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of this French politician who was one of the greatest orators of the French parliamentary history.
The preview sale of these two stamps (creation and engraving : Louis Boursier, print run : 1.500.000), designed with the blue, white, red colors, took place at the Stamp Exhibition "Planète Timbres" in Paris but also in 3 cities of department of Tarn (Carmaux, Albi and Castres ), his homeland, as well as in Toulouse (without First Day mention).
On June 21, 2014, the National Assembly (the lower house of the French Parliament) paid also tribute to Jaurès with a temporary post office and a special postmark featuring his portrait and the famous 12 columns facade of the Palais Bourbon.

It's that cancellation that was applied to the cover above. Thank you very much Joël :-)
According to the website of the French National Assembly : "Moderate Republican at first, Jean Jaurès moved towards socialism by supporting the miners' strike in Carmaux. Marx's reader and refusing to admit the class struggle as unique History's engine, Jaurès registered democratic socialism in the continuity of the French Revolution and the Republican ideal. from this perspective, he tried to unify the different trends of the French labor movement by founding the newspaper "L'Humanité" in 1904 and by participating in the creation of the SFIO Socialist party in 1905... ".
Several times MP of the department of Tarn, Jaurès fought against corruption, supported Dreyfus, committed against the death penalty, supported the principle of secularism (1905 Act) but was especially an ardent pacifist at the edge of the 1st World War.
Murdered on July 31, 1914 by the Nationalist Raoul Villain, Jaurès's remains were transferred to the Panthéon in 1924.
