On March 16, 2015 (date of general sale), the French Post issued a beautiful engraved souvenir sheet consisting of two stamps, dedicated to the Cathedral Basilica of Saint-Denis (northern suburb of Paris).
After a stamp issued in 1944 (800 years of the consecration of the abbey rebuilt by Abbot Suger) and a stamp of the booklet "Gothic Art" issued in 2011, this souvenir sheet is a reminder that this historical monument is one of the most important of the history of France.
This building, built on the burial site of Saint-Denis (martyred around 250), is indeed an example of religious architecture extensively reworked and restored over the centuries, but also the necropolis of the Kings of France.

It is that souvenir sheet (print run : 825,000), created and engraved by Claude Andréotto, which appears to the right on the official FDC above with postmark of March 14, 2015 from Saint-Denis. Thank you very much Joël :-)
The stamp at the top right (€ 1.25) reproduces a part of the stained glass devoted to the "Tree of Jesse" (representing a sort of family tree of Jesus, from Jesse, the father of King David), dating from the 12th century. This stained glass, showing King David (surrounded by two prophets), is one of the few original parts, most of windows being destroyed or damaged after the desecration of the basilica during the French Revolution.
The other stamp (€ 0.76) shows the recumbent effigies of the King of the Franks, Robert II the Pious (reigned 996-1031) and his wife, Constance of Arles.
The background of this sheet features a current view of the building, extensively restored in the 19th century (especially by Viollet-le-Duc), whose north tower was destroyed in 1846.

On this letter, signed by Claude Andréotto, Joël added the stamp of the CNEP m/s issued especially during the last "Salon Philatélique de Printemps" held in Paris from 19 to 21 March 2015.
This personalized stamp (Priority Letter 20g) depicts another King of France, Francis I, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Marignano.
Sophie Beaujard, the designer of that stamp and special "Salon Philatélique de Printemps" postmark also applied to this envelope on March 19, 2015, signed it at the bottom left :-)
Finally, to note that the French Post also issued the two stamps of this souvenir sheet "Basilica of Saint Denis" in the form of the gummed sheet above (print run : 42,000, sale price : € 6.20).
The background of that sheet features the upper part of the left portal of the main entrance of this Basilica.
