Saint Peter and Saint Paul Archipelago in Brazil

On December 12, 2014, the Brazilian Post has released a nice souvenir sheet dedicated to the archipelago of St. Peter and St. Paul ("Penedos de São Pedro e São Paulo"), composed of a dozen of small islands and rocks, located in the Atlantic Ocean, about 950 km northeast of the Brazilian city of Natal (Rio Grande do Norte).
A big thank you Marcelo for this nice letter sent on January 26, 2015 from São Paulo, partly franked with this souvenir sheet (consisting of two R$ 2.50 stamps), with FDC postmarks from Natal, featuring one of the species of seabirds present on these islands, a brown booby (Sula leucogaster).

This souvenir sheet (print run : 100,000) shows an aerial view of the main islands of this archipelago, in particular the islet of Belmonte on the two stamps, on which a lighthouse was built in 1995 (replacing the previous one from 1930) and a scientific station built in 1998 (maintained by the Brazilian Navy).
These rocks (discovered in 1511 and officially attached to Brazil in 1942), forming the easternmost point of the whole Brazil, have a scientific interest (with 4 military researchers replaced every 15 days) but mainly allow Brazil to dispose of a permanent presence on these rocks and to strategically extend its exclusive economic zone and airspace in the North Atlantic equatorial ocean...
