2015 World Rowing Championships in France

18 years after having organized the 26th edition of the World Rowing Championships, France hosts again this international competition (44th edition), from August 30 to September 6, 2015, on the natural lake of Aiguebelette (Savoie).
These championships (1300 athletes from 77 countries), dominated for the time being by New Zealand and Great Britain, are very important as they are the main qualification event for the next Olympic Games of Rio in 2016.
On the first day of these championships, the French Post released a diptych (print run : 824,985), with preview sale in Paris (Carré d'Encre) and Aiguebelette-le-Lac.

I was lucky to receive the two First Day Covers above and below regarding these two stamps, with respective postmarks from Paris and Aiguebelette-le-Lac. Thank you very much Joël and André :-)
These two stamps, designed by Michel Bez and laid out by the Studio Dune Lunel, are featuring two French boats participating in these world championships, men's coxed eight (€ 1.20) and women's double scull (€ 0.76).
The Paris graphic design studio Dune Lunel, specializing in fine books, also designed the FDC cancellation, depicting a single scull's athlete, with the beautiful landscapes of this lake of Aiguebelette in the background.
Michel Bez (born 1951) is a French painter, an official Navy painter, having already designed several French stamps, including the France-Australia joint issue in 2002.

Some organizational problems have unfortunately marred the preview sale of this diptych in Aiguebelette-le-Lac, a village located at the southern tip of the lake of Aiguebelette.
As a result : some untrained employees for this kind of event and as a consequence, some First Day documents (such as the one above) of poor quality, with not clean cancellations, not optimally applied... too bad !
Finally, to note that a French stamp (designed and engraved by Martin Mörck) had been issued for the World Rowing Championships in 1997 and that rowing was already featured on stamps issued in 1953 (gold medalists at the Helsinki Olympics) and 2008 (Beijing Olympics).
