70th anniversary of United Nations in Albania

Such as 15 other countries (including Spain, Romania, Austria or Italy) admitted the same day to the United Nations (on December 14, 1955), Albania celebrated this year the 60th anniversary of its UN membership.
The Albanian Post has not officially commemorated this 60th anniversary but has nevertheless put into circulation, on October 24, 2015, a special stamp (180 lekë) celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
Such as other postal administrations, the Albanian Post has issued this stamp 70 years to the day after the ratification of the United Nations Charter in San Francisco, on October 24, 1945.

It is that stamp (design : Spiro Vllahu, print run : 105,000) which was used in two copies on the letter above sent by registered mail on November 29, 2015 from Tirana. Thank you very much Sabri !
That stamp features the official logo of this 70th anniversary (mention "70-vjetori i OKB-së" in Albanian) made with the number "70" (with the United Nations emblem inside the "0") accompanied by the slogan "Strong UN. Better World." in English here.
The United Nations headquarters in New York, with a series of national flags, is also present.
As a reminder, about twenty postal administrations also commemorated the 70th anniversary of the United Nations by issuing special stamps in 2015 : UNPA, Belarus, Malta, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Brunei Darussalam, Russia, China, Vatican, Kenya, Greece, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Argentina, Poland (postal stationary), Spain, Uruguay, Monaco, Romania or Jordan...

6th anniversary of the "Carré d'Encre" in Paris, a love story ?

As for its 5th anniversary in 2014, the artist Sophie Beaujard again designed a special stamp collector devoted to the 6th anniversary of the "Carré d'Encre", put into circulation on December 2, 2015.
This collector (selling price : € 10, unknown print run) is made of 10 identical self-adhesive stamps (type "MonTimbraMoi", postal rate "Priority Letter 20g").
As a reminder, the "Carré d'Encre" is a French Post's store dedicated to philatelic and artistic events, to writing communication and offering to philatelists a "First Day cancellation" space during French stamps preview sales.

A big thank you Joël for this First Day Cover above regarding that stamp, with the special cancellation (also designed by Sophie Beaujard) including a heart pierced by an arrow and the slogan "6 years of love between the "Carré d'Encre" and philatelists" in French...
That stamp shows a couple of pigeons (philatelists would be sometimes pigeons, the French term for "patsy" ?) celebrating these 6 years of love with a Chypre perfume bottle (reminding the name of the wedding anniversary celebrated in France after 6 years of marriage), surrounded by more or less fanciful stamps (including one showing the Eiffel Tower in front of a French flag and another one recalling the stamp "Marguerite Duras" issued in 2014 and designed by... Sophie Beaujard.
Sophie Beaujard decidedly like pigeons as they were already at the top of the Eiffel Tower on the "5th Anniversary of the Carré d'Encre" stamp or on the roofs of Paris on another stamp being part of the collector "The "Carré d'Encre" seen by..." issued on January 18, 2014.

Under the leadership of current Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, the decision to create a National Art Gallery in Singapore was taken from 2005.
On November 24, 2015, this National Gallery was officially opened to the public, becoming the largest museum in the country but also the largest public collection in the world of modern art (19th and 20th century) from Singapore and Southeast Asia, with more than 8,000 works of art on display.
The various works exhibited involve various media such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography or video.
The objective of this cultural institution is also to become a center for research and publication on modern art in the whole Southeast Asian region.

On the occasion of the inauguration of this National Gallery Singapore, the SingPost has put into circulation, on November 24, 2015, a very nice set of four stamps ($ 1.30 each, design : Leo Teck Chong) reproducing some of the works exhibited in this Museum.
A big thank you Terence for this beautiful first day cover regarding this stamp set (the FDC cancellation features the logo of this Museum) !
The illustration at the bottom left shows a view of this National Gallery's building (architecture : Studio Milou), consisting of two old buildings (national monuments), the former seat of the Supreme Court of Singapore (left) and the former City Hall (right).
The four works in the spotlight on this stamp series are (from left to right, top to bottom) : "Drying Salted Fish" (1978) by Cheong Soo Pieng (1917-1983) from Singapore, "Pagodas II, Pago-Pago Series" (1964) by Latiff Mohidin (born in 1941) from Malaysia, "National Language Class" (1959) by Chua Mia Tee (born in 1931) from Singapore and "Wounded Lion" (c. 1839) by Raden Saleh (1811-1880) from Indonesia.

Stamp Week 2015 in Malaysia

As usual every year, the Malaysian Post participated in the Stamp Week ("Minggu Setem" in Malay) with in particular this year the issue of a special stamp (60 sen) on October 27, 2015, showing a group of children belonging to a philatelic club, watching a stamp album.
A big thank you Khor for this FDC regarding that stamp (in 3 copies here) printed in sheet of 20 stamps with a top margin incorporating the same stamp's design !
To note that the two stamps at the bottom, as well as the stamp (20 sen) being part of a definitive series issued on May 14, 2005, devoted to birds from Malaysia, a Spotted Dove (Streptopelia chinensis) here, have not been canceled...

That stamp also illustrates the project entitled "OMG" (for "Oh Memang Gempak" in Malay), a program organized by the Malaysian Post, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, to raise awareness and educate Malaysian schoolchildren to philately and postal history of the country.
This mention "OMG" is also present on the special postmark dated October 27, 2015 with mention of the city of Ipoh, capital of the state of Perak (a double mechanical cancellation was applied on October 30, 2015 when this letter transited by the mail sorting center of the same city).
This Stamp Week took place from October 27 to November 2, 2015 throughout Malaysia and seven different cancellations were put into circulation on this occasion (one for each day).
The illustration on the left on this envelope refers to the Proclamation of Malaysia, a statement dating from 1963 regarding the merger of the Federation of Malaya with the British crown colonies of North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore.

Lighthouses, flag and women's suffrage in Iceland

On July 1, 1914, the Flag Committee (established by Prime Minister Hannes Hafstein in 1913 to make proposals regarding the national flag) submited two projects including one, tricolor : a sky blue flag with a white Scandinavian cross and a bright red cross inside it.
It is that proposal that King Christian X of Denmark accepted on June 19, 1915, also endorsing the Constitution which recognized the autonomy of Iceland under the Union with Denmark (Iceland get its full independence in 1944).
This Icelandic flag ("Íslenski fáninn") was hoisted for the first time at the government building on December 1, 1918.
On April 30, 2015, the Icelandic Post issued a stamp + a souvenir sheet (design : Hörður Lárusson) devoted to the 100th anniversary of the official adoption of this flag.

It is that souvenir sheet (with a "2000g domestic" stamp, 630 ISK) which was used to the left on this letter sent on November 26, 2015 from Reykjavik.
That sheet (print run : 40,000), printed in France by Cartor Security Printing, is special because it includes gold-foil mentions, in particular some of the projects submitted by the public to the Flag Committee, in the top margin.
The five members of this Flag Committee are featured in the lower margin including a text specifying the colors and dimensions of this new flag.
The stamp of this series ("50g domestic", 159 ISK, print run : 120,000) is also present on this letter as well as the stamp ("50g domestic", print run : 80,000, design : Kristín Þóra Guðbjartsdóttir) issued the same day, devoted the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in the country.
On June 19, 1915, the King of Denmark indeed ratified the law granting the Icelandic women (aged 40 and older) the right to vote and made them eligible for election to Parliament. Women will be able to vote, without any age restriction, from 1920.
The last two self-adhesive stamps above, issued on September 10, 2015 in the "Lighthouses" series (part V), respectively feature the lighthouse of Elliðaey ("50g domestic", print run : 350,000), one of two triangular lighthouses in Iceland (built in 1951) and the lighthouse of Æðey ("50g to Europe", print run : 100,000) built in 1944 in Ísafjörður, the capital of the West Fjords region.

To celebrate the participation of the Taiwanese Post (Chunghwa Post) at the 31st Asian International Stamp Exhibition held in Hong Kong from November 20 to 23, 2015, a special envelope was put into circulation.
It is that envelope that George was kind enough to send me, with a cancellation from Taipei dated November 23, 2015. Thank you very much !
To note also the special purple cachet, top left, featuring the logo of this Asian exhibition (organized for the 5th time in Hong Kong) illustrating its theme "Shopping and Dining"...

The postage consists of the ATM stamp devoted to the Year of the Goat, put into circulation on August 25, 2015.
This ATM stamp (value : NT$ 14 corresponding to a shipment up to 20g sent by surface mail (!) to Europe) No. BBD0102, entitled "Auspicious sheep", was edited by a machine ("102" on the top right) located in the postal museum in Taipei.
880,000 labels of this kind (design : Tseng Kai-chih) have been put into circulation (880 rolls of 1000 labels each) and printed in France by Cartor Security Printing.

Honey-scented and Gastronomy stamps from Slovenia

At the initiative of the Slovenian Beekeeping Association (ČZS), the "Traditional Slovene Breakfast" project was launched, which aims to educate and inform children about the importance of bees (and especially pollination) and apiculture products.
More broadly, that day of the "Traditional Slovene Breakfast" (taking place on the 3rd Friday of November) offers children a healthy and 100% Slovene breakfast, made of bread, butter, honey, milk and apples.
On September 25, 2015, the Slovenian Post issued a special stamp dedicated to this "Traditional Slovene Breakfast" project.

It is that stamp (€ 0.77, design : Matjaž Učakar) which was used on the left on the nice cover above sent from Ljubljana on November 26, 2015. Thank you very much Petra :)
That stamp is very special because a honey fragrance comes when rubbed with fingers !
The postal administrations of French Polynesia or Isle of Man have already issued such honey-scented stamps in the past.
The other two stamps on the right (€ 0.77 each), issued se-tenant in sheet of 16 stamps (8 pairs) on November 6, 2015, are part of the annual series of the Slovenian Post devoted to gastronomy.
Designed by Edi Berk and Tomo Jeseničnik, these two stamps are devoted to pasta parcels from the region of Idrija (called "žlikrofi") accompanied by meat stew (mutton or rabbit) and salami from the region of Šebrelje, called "želodec".
The filling of these pasta parcels is made of potato, onion and bacon and the flavour of this salami is unique because it is dried in special climatic conditions (with both Mediterranean and Alpine winds).

Christmas 2015 stamp from Monaco

Merci beaucoup Olivier !
As usual, the OETP of Monaco has put into circulation, on November 3, 2015, a stamp dedicated to Christmas (Roman Catholicism is the state religion in the Principality of Monaco).
That stamp (€ 0.76, print run : 70,000), printed in sheet of 10 stamps, was designed by Italian artist Stefano Morri who already created many stamps also for Monaco (EUROPA 2014 stamp) or San Marino (EUROPA 2013 series).
It is that stamp, featuring the Virgin and Child, which was used on the nice cover below with postmarks from Monte Carlo dated December 5, 2015. Thank you very much Olivier !

Two angels are also depicted in the sky as well as, to the left, the facade of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Monaco.
Built on the Rock of Monaco in a Roman-Byzantine style between 1875 and 1903 (consecrated in 1911), this cathedral houses the tombs of most of the princes and princesses of Monaco, particularly those of Rainier III and his wife Grace.
To note also on this letter above, top left, the special cachet issued during the 10th edition of the International Philatelic Exhibition "MonacoPhil" held from 3 to 5 December 2015, about which I will speak soon on this blog.

50th anniversary of the launch of the first French satellite : first French triangular stamp !

Under the leadership of General de Gaulle from 1959, France decided to take part in the space race in a autonomous way, at the time of the Cold War between the USSR and the USA.
The satellite launcher Diamant ("Diamant A" for the first version used in the period 1965-1967) became then a reality, becoming the first launcher built outside the USA and the USSR.
It is that Diamant A rocket which allowed, on November 26, 1965, the launch of the first French artificial satellite "A-1" (later renamed "Asterix" in honor of the famous Gallic cartoon hero) from the launch site of Hammaguir in Algeria.
50 years to the day after this launch, the French Post has released a special stamp (€ 0.68) depicting this satellite Asterix.
The FDC cancellation was inspired by a triptych of 2 stamps (2 stamps + 1 central vignette) issued in France on November 30, 1965 to celebrate this feat !

It's rather astonishing but that stamp is the first triangular stamp (issued in sheet of 60 stamps) issued in France.
Designed by the young French cartoonist Damien Cuvillier, that stamp (print run : 1.2 million) shows this Asterix satellite (weight : 40 kg, height : 54 cm, max diameter : 55 cm), which did not contain any scientific equipment but was used to verify the performance of the launcher.
Some industrial designs of the Diamant A launcher are included in the background on that stamp.
With this launch, France became the third space power capable of placing an artificial satellite in orbit after the USSR and the USA and the 6th country to have a satellite in orbit after USSR, USA, United Kingdom, Canada and Italy.
A big thank you Joël for this first day cover with postmarks from Paris, regarding that stamp !
To note that the preview sale of that stamp also took place in Toulouse (at the Space City) and in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles (33), one of the current centers of the nuclear missile industry in France.

70th anniversary of United Nations in Uruguay

The Uruguayan Post (Correo Uruguayo), such as about twenty other postal administrations, commemorated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN) by issuing, on October 20, 2015, a series of two special stamps.
I like this series because it shows concretely the work of Uruguayan peacekeepers around the world, particularly in Haiti (50 pesos stamp) and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (15 pesos stamp).
These two stamps have been issued in a same sheet composed of 6 pairs (print run : 15,000 pairs) with the official logo of this 70th anniversary of the United Nations included only in a part of the top margin.
A big thank you Jorge for this nice cover sent on December 2, 2015 from the city of Sarandi Grande, franked with a pair of this series and the top margin including this logo !

This logo represents the number "70" (with the United Nations emblem inside the "0") accompanied by the slogan "Strong UN. Better World", in Spanish here, also present on the top left on these two stamps.
Uruguay is one of the first UN member states (on December 18, 1945) and participated in many peacekeeping missions (UN blue helmets) by being one of the first contributors of the American continent with nearly 2,200 soldiers and police officers (including 108 women) in uniform, including 941 in mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and 1200 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO).
These two UN missions aim the protection of populations and (political and economic) stabilization of these two countries particularly affected by an earthquake (Haiti in 2010) and an insurrection in the Great Lakes region (DR Congo).

Winter customs and traditions in Moldova

Merci beaucoup Nicolae :-)
The Post of Moldova has already issued several sets of stamps in the past devoted to winter traditions and popular celebrations ("sărbători de iarnă") in the country and sometimes also in neighboring Romania.
On December 4, 2015, a new nice series (2 stamps) about that theme of winter popular customs and traditions ("datini şi obiceiuri de iarnă") was issued, in particular traditional processions, "Pluguşorul" and "Steaua", performed in Moldovan villages at this period of Christmas and New Year.
These two stamps, each printed in sheet of 8 stamps, are included on the nice FDC below (designed by Iurii Palcov, also the author of the stamps) with cancellation from Chişinău (MD-2012), issued only in 400 copies. Thank you very much Nicolae :-)

"Pluguşorul" (literally "the little plough"), on the L 9.50 stamp (print run : 300,000) is a very old secular custom referring to farming works. Groups of children and teenagers carrying a pluguşor, a small wooden stylized plough symbolizing fertility, are going from house to house, wearing masks, holding whips and bells and reciting poems glorifying farm work.
In the houses, they're being offered money and ring biscuits made from bread (present on the stamp, the illustration on the envelope and the postmark).
The other stamp (L 1.75, print run : 300,000) evokes the religious connotation tradition called "Steaua" ("Star") devoted to the birth of Christ. A procession of children brandishing a Steaua are going from house to house, where they sing Christmas carols.
During the period of Lent, children prepare this procession especially in making this star-shaped item (also featured on the stamp, the illustration on the envelope and the postmark), with in its center, an icon of the Virgin and Child, decorated with fir branches, ribbons, bells and various other colored accessories.

Diplomatic relations between Albania and Kuwait

On April 10, 1968, the Mission of Kuwait to the United Nations informed the Albanian delegation about the decision of the Council of Ministers of the State of Kuwait to approve the establishment of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of Albania at the time.
The Albanian Council of Ministers officially confirmed on July 3, 1968 its decision to establish diplomatic relations with the State of Kuwait and to exchange diplomatic representatives in the rank of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors.
Relations between the two countries have been strengthened constantly in many areas (education, infrastructure, health, culture, economy...) in particular from the 1990s following the democratic changes in Albania and the opening of the country to the world.

The Albanian Post has probably forgotten in 2013 to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of these diplomatic relations with Kuwait but tried to redeem itself in 2014 (on November 11 exactly) with the issue of a souvenir sheet (consisting of two 100 lekë stamps) celebrating the relationship and friendship between the two countries.
It is that numbered souvenir sheet (print run : 2650) which was used to frank the cover above sent on November 23, 2015 from Tirana. Thank you very much Sabri !
To note that this souvenir sheet has also been issued in a limited edition booklet (only 150), marketed at a price of 680 lekë...
Designed by Gentjan Gjikopulli, the stamps of this souvenir sheet are respectively featuring the current Emir of Kuwait, Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah (rather unusual to see living people on Albanian stamps) as well as the flags of the two countries over a handshake.
Finally, to note that Albania had condemned the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in the early 1990s and that Kuwait established diplomatic relations with Kosovo in 2013, decisions that have strengthened ties between the two countries...

Amazing "Historic city of Toledo" m/s from Spain

Merci beaucoup Luis !
13 Spanish cities (Toledo, Acalá de Henares, Avila, Cáceres, Cordoba, Cuenca, Ibiza, Mérida, Salamanca, San Cristóbal de la Laguna, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia and Tarragona) are included today on the Urban World Heritage Sites list, recognised by UNESCO for the interest of their historic and artistic districts.
Among these 13 cities, Toledo and its 2000 years of history is in the spotlight on a beautiful (and very large : 220 x 170 mm !) and partially engraved souvenir sheet issued on June 19, 2014 by the Spanish Post.
It is that sheet (print run : 300,000) that appears on the first day cover below, with FDC cancellations from Toledo, sent from Madrid on November 16, 2015. Thank you very much Luis !

The FDC cancellation seems to feature an external view of the rose window of the Primate Cathedral of St. Mary of Toledo (Clock's Gate).
This same cathedral (built between the 13th and 15th century) is depicted on the top left (€ 1.00 stamp) on this souvenir sheet showing a view of Toledo, built on a hill, from the opposite bank of the river Tagus, the other stamp (€ 1.00 also) featuring the Alcazar (16th century).
Toledo, UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986, has been successively Roman, Visigoth kingdom's capital, fortress of the Emirate of Cordoba (outpost of the Christian kingdoms fighting against the Moors) and the temporary seat of supreme power under Charles V in the 16th century.
This city thus kept some architectural masterpieces dating from various civilizations in an environment where coexisted or competed three major religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam).
To note that a similar souvenir sheet was issued in 2015, this time devoted to the historical center of the city of Segovia.

70th anniversary of United Nations in Morocco

I am pleased to add a new country to my collection of covers franked with a stamp commemorating this year the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
After Tunisia and Algeria, I was lucky this time to receive the letter below from a third country of the Maghreb region, Morocco, with the special stamp (9 Dirhams) issued on October 26, 2015.
Thank you very much Abdelilah for this letter sent on December 15, 2015 from the city of Khemisset !
As with most stamps issued on this topic by about twenty postal administrations, that stamp (design : L. Edfouf) includes the official logo of this 70th anniversary, the number "70" (with the United Nations emblem inside the "0") accompanied by the slogan "Strong UN. Better World" in Arabic here.

The emblem of the United Nations is also present on blue background at the top of this stamp printed in France by Phil@poste.
With that stamp, the Moroccan Post has wanted to recall that the United Nations birth (after the signing of the Charter of San Francisco on October 24, 1945) had for main purpose to maintain peace and international security but also to promote social progress.
Morocco, UN member since November 12, 1956 (a few months after its independence) has already commemorated in the past several UN anniversaries : 25th in 1970, 40th in 1985, 50th in 1995 or 60th in 2005...

Italy-San Marino joint stamp issue 2015 : Techno Science Park

Émission commune Italie Saint-Marin 2015 : Techno Science Park

On March 31, 2009 the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of the Republic of San Marino signed an agreement on economic cooperation, especially in the field of scientific and technological research and innovation.
This agreement also provided for the creation of a science and technology park on the territory of the small republic of San Marino, operational since 2012, being part of the APSTI network of technological and scientific parks of Italy.
To celebrate this scientific cooperation in research and development and innovation, the two postal administrations of Italy and San Marino have put into circulation, on October 23, 2015, a joint set composed of two stamps.

I was lucky to receive the two letters above and below franked respectively with the versions of San Marino and Italy of this joint set !
The cover above is cancelled with the special postmark (dated November 5, 2015) issued by the AASFN of San Marino during the last "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" in Paris, featuring the Alexandre III bridge.
This series of stamps was designed by illustrator Matteo Riva, printed in sheet of 20 stamps (for each stamp) to 40,000 copies.
The € 1.60 stamp (including the flags of the two countries) symbolizes this Techno Science Park as a microcosm consisting of a combination of symbols and icons typical of the universe of startup companies (drone, 3D printing, digital technologies, smartphones...).

A big thank you Giovanni for the second letter above, with a First Day cancellation from the Italian city of Legnago !
To note that the Italian Post issued this set in gummed version (rather unusual today), printed at 800,000 copies for each stamp, with identical nominal values (€ 0.95), lower than the version of San Marino.
The 2nd stamp of this series, right above, features a human mind which is the origin of this science park, a young researcher with switching on a light bulb.
To note that this joint issue between these two countries is the fourth one in a row since 2012 !

Christmas 2015 cards from Luxembourg and Liechtenstein

As usual, as a loyal customer (!), I recently received several philatelic souvenirs, associated with Christmas festivities, especially sent by the postal administrations of the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg :-)
After stamps including silver parts in 2012, perforated parts (snowflake shaped) in 2013 or printed on flocked paper (with "fur" effect) in 2014, the Luxembourg Post continues to innovate this year with a "Christmas 2015" series (2 stamps) including parts covered with an orange varnish and a small embossment.

It is one of these two Christmas stamps (€ 0.70 with a surcharge of € 0.05) which is on the card above, with the FDC cancellation from Luxembourg dated December 1, 2015.
This series was designed by the Luxembourg artist Jacques Schneider (born in 1985), combining both the photographic and graphic art.
These stamps are based on photographs in black and white of the city of Luxembourg in winter taken from an unusual angle and reworked with blue and orange tones.
To note that these two timbres (each issued in sheet of 12 stamps) were printed in France by Cartor Security Printing.

The postcard above, issued by the Post of Liechtenstein, is also dedicated to Christmas with this family singing around a decorated tree.
This card seems to reproduce a work by the Swiss illustrator and painter Oskar Weiss (born in 1944), also the author of the "Christmas" set (4 stamps) issued on November 16, 2015.
The theme of this series is devoted this year to Christmas carols, such as "Come, All Ye Shepherds" (around 1700) illustrated on the stamp (1.90 CHF) above, referring to the announcement of the birth of Jesus to shepherds by angels.
Oskar Weiss has designed several sets of stamps for Liechtenstein in the past, in particular a series (8 stamps) about the heroes of literature in 2012.
To note that, as it was the case the two previous years, this Christmas series was printed on self-adhesive paper by Gutenberg AG in Schaan.

As in previous years, a famous poem having Christmas for theme is written on the other side of this card above, whose author is unknown.
The four lines of this poem in German could be translated as : "Candles and lanterns illuminate the night of Christmas. Bells ring, far and near, Peace be on Earth".

Architecture, labour movement, cinema and design on new cover from Slovenia

Thank you very much Petra for this new attractive letter from Slovenia, sent from Ljubljana on November 26, 2015, franked with four stamps issued in 2015, allowing to get to know an architect, a pioneer of the labor movement but also the first Slovenian film or achievements of the Slovenian industrial design !
The stamp on the right (€ 0.58, design : Robert Žvokelj), issued on November 6, 2015, is thus dedicated to industrial design, a cross-country ski footwear "Alpina Elite ESK PRO" (2013) in particular, developed after 15 years of collaboration between the company Alpina and Studio Miklavc.
Alpina has a 30% global market share in this segment and its shoes are used by many athletes (cross country skiing, biathlon), 12 of them having won a medal at the last winter Olympics Games in Sochi in 2014.

The stamp on the left (€ 1.25, design : Ivo Matko) was issued on January 30, 2015 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the architect Maks Fabiani (1865-1962).
Pioneer of urban planning in Central Europe (in Vienna in particular), Fabiani's architectural style was partly inspired by the artistic movement of the Secession (Sezessionsstil) and its main achievements are located in Bohemia, Vienna, Ljubljana (he participated in the reconstruction of the city after the earthquake of 1895) or Gorizia.
That stamp shows his portrait next to the building "Mladika" (in stucco and red bricks) built in 1907 in Ljubljana for the education of young women, now headquarters of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The following stamp (€ 0.47, design : villa creativa d.o.o.), issued on November 6, 2015, is devoted to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Janez Evangelist Krek (1865-1917), a Slovene politician (Christian Socialist), priest, journalist and author, pioneer of the peasant and labour movement and initiator of the cooperative movement in the country.
The last stamp (€ 0.92, design : Špela Drašlar) was issued on November 6, 2015 to celebrate the first Slovenian film (7 meters of film), "People Leaving Mass in Ljutomer", shot in 1905 by the lawyer Karol Grossmann (1864-1929).

Christmas 2015 stamps from Iceland

I'm not a fan at all of this Christmas ("Jól" in Icelandic) topic but I've to admit that I rather love this series (3 stamps) issued on November 5, 2015 by the Icelandic Post, showing caracterictic scenes of this period, mixing joy, togetherness, warmth and well-being...
This self-adhesive series is very original because it combines photographs (taken by filmmaker Sebastian Ziegler) and superimposed drawings (printed with metallic inks in 3 colors : bronze, silver and gold) by Hörður Lárusson and Rán Flygenring.
This complete set was used on the cover below sent on November 26, 2015 from Reykjavík.

These 3 stamps (each issued in sheet of 10 stamps) are featuring snug togetherness of friends and family over a hot drink and gingerbread (B50g domestic, 137 ISK, print run : 400,000), an evening stroll on a calm quiet icy surface (50g domestic, 159 ISK, print run : 700,000) and a humorous picture of the famed Christmas cat relaxing cozily in bed listening to Christmas music on the computer (50g to Europe, 180 ISK, print run : 130,000).
To note that the "B50g domestic" stamp was also issued in a booklet (print run : 20,000) composed of 10 stamps.

Albania-Macedonia-Kosovo joint stamp issue : tribute to Mother Teresa

On August 26, 2010, 100 years to the day after her birth in Skopje (capital of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), the three postal administrations of Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia issued a joint stamp dedicated to Mother Teresa (1910-1997).
I was very lucky to receive the cover below, with a postmark (round, very unusual) dated November 23, 2015 from Tirana, franked with the Albanian version of that stamp. Thank you very much Sabri !
That stamp (100 lekë), designed by Hyrije Ademi, shows a portrait of Mother Teresa in her famous sari with blue stripes of the Missionaries of Charity, the Catholic religious order she founded in 1950 in Calcultta.

Mother Teresa (Anjezë Gonxha Bojaxhiu is her real name) is a a Roman Catholic religious sister (born in a Kosovar Albanian family), Indian national, missionary in India, particularly in Calcutta where, for over 40 years, she dedicated her life to the poor, the sick and the dying.
Seen as a model of goodness and altruism, Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003.
To note that other postal administrations had also commemorated the 100th anniversary of her birth in 2010, in particular France, Monaco, Germany, Serbia, Ireland, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina (HP Mostar) or the USA.

70th anniversary of United Nations and EUROPA 2015 stamps on cover from Monaco

The Principality of Monaco is part of the twenty postal administrations having commemorated the 70th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations by issuing special stamps, in this case a stamp (€ 0.76, print run : 45,000) issued on October 24 2015.
As it was the case in other countries (Tunisia, Moldova...), that stamp was issued 70 years to the day after the ratification of the Charter of the United Nations in San Francisco on October 24, 1945, by the five permanent members of the Security Council and the majority of the 51 signatory countries.
Monaco is curiously a UN member only since May 28, 1993.
That stamp was used on the left on the cover below, with a postmark from Monte Carlo dated November 18, 2015.

That stamp (issued in sheet of 10 stamps), designed by Créaphil, features a world map with a horizon line and a sea in the background (an allusion to global warming and the COP21 summit ?).
The official logo of this 70th anniversary, the number "70" (with the United Nations emblem inside the "0") accompanied by the slogan "A strong UN for a better world" (in French) is included on the top right.
It's worth noting an error on this world map with a map of Sudan that does not take into account the split with South Sudan since 2011...
The cachet at the bottom left (the Louvre Pyramid) was  specially issued by the OETP of Monaco during the last "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" in Paris.

The other stamp used on this first letter is the EUROPA stamp issued this year (on May 11, 2015) by the Principality of Monaco, illustrating the theme of old toys.
That stamp (€ 0.95, print run : 60,000) was designed by the Monaco's illustrator Alain Giampaoli (born in 1946, he designed about ten stamps for Monaco since 2006) and also printed in sheet of 10 stamps.
According to OETP, that stamp "features various old toys in a joyful and childish atmosphere", with this teddy bear sympathizing with a doll at the forefront.
The same EUROPA stamp was also used on the letter above (thank you very much Freddy !) sent on December 3, 2015 during the International Philatelic Exhibition "MonacoPhil" held from December 3 to 5, 2015, about which I will talk soon on this blog !
