For the first time in its history, the Post of Sri Lanka has put into circulation in 2015 a joint issue with another postal administration, Kingdom of Thailand's Post, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (on November 20, 1955 exactly).
This joint set (2 stamps) was unveiled on November 2, 2015 in Bangkok on the occasion of the official visit of the President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena.
This joint series is devoted to stupas located in the two countries, among the largest or tallest Buddhist structures of this kind in the world.

The Sri Lankan version of these stamps were used to the right on the nice cover above sent on December 13, 2015 from the town of Piliyandala, a suburb in the south of the capital, Colombo. Thank you very much Gayanth !
The Jetavana stupa in Sri Lanka is depicted on the Rs 10 stamp (design : D.G Sudath Jayawardena), considered as the highest sacred structure built from bricks in the world, dating from the time of King Mahasena (3rd and 4th century ).
The other stamp (Rs 50, design : Udorn Niyomthum) shows the current highest stupa in the world, Phra Pathommachedi (completed in 1870), located in the Thai city of Nakhon Pathom.
The logo of this 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations as well as the flags of the two countries are included on these two stamps issued in a same sheet of 10 stamps + 2 central vignettes.
The other two stamps above are devoted to World Post Day and the 175th anniversary of the Penny Black (issued on October 9, 2015) and to the 70th anniversary of the United Nations / 60 years since Sri Lanka became a UN member state ( issued on October 24, 2015).

The Post of Sri Lanka also issued this series in the beautiful souvenir sheet above, with an original cut, evoking the shape of the roof of Wat Benchamabophit temple in Bangkok, built in 1899 by King Rama V.
Another Thai temple, Wat Chaiwatthanaram (built in 1630), one of the most famous Buddhist temples in the historic city of Ayutthaya, is also shown at the bottom left on this sheet.
The Vatadage of the site of Polonnaruwa, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka and seat of power of the Sinhalese kings from the 11th to the 13th century, appears at the bottom right.
The ritual of the procession of royal barges in Thailand, on the Chao Praya River in Bangkok, is also featured in the margin.
