On April 2, 2016, the China Post has put into circulation a very nice stamp set (3 se-tenant stamps + 1 souvenir sheet) devoted to a masterpiece of Chinese painting dating from the late Tang Dynasty (618-907), the only existing authentic achievement to date by the painter Sun Wei (also known as Sun Yu), entitled "The Painting of Gao Yi".
A big thank you Jia Yi for this beautiful FDC sent by registered mail (cancellations from Shanghai) regarding this entire series, designed by Wang Huming !
The three se-tenant stamps have been printed in Beijing (by Beijing Stamp Printing Works) in mini-sheet of 15 stamps (5 series).

This work, painted in a scroll form by Sun Wei in the reign of Emperor Tang Xizong (874-888), is today exhibited at the Shanghai Museum.
Sun Wei followed at the time this Emperor in Sichuan in order to escape from the turmoil of the war and lived much of his life in Chengdu.
He is considered as one of the first Chinese landscape painters, often including characters, pines and rocks on his paintings.
The masterpiece in the spotlight here, which may have been part of the series "Seven Virtuous Men of the Bamboo Forest", depicts four men of letters sitting on the ground, reading, savoring tea, waving fans and chatting.
Each of these four men, assisted by a boy servant, is featured with a very fine detail expression, marking the climax of the painting of the Tang Dynasty.
