Saint-Pierre & Miquelon : special cancellation of January 1, 2017 !

After a mechanical pictorial cancellation put into service on January 1, 2016, devoted to the bicentenary of the retrocession of Saint Pierre and Miquelon to France, a new mechanical cancellation of the same type (blue ink) was put into circulation on January 1, 2017.
This cancellation was applied on the prepaid envelope below, valid for a shipment up to 20g, domestic (currently € 0.43) and worldwide (€ 0.85 to France, € 1.17 to the USA and Canada, € 1.49 to the rest of the world). Thank you very much Joël !

This cancellation from the city of Saint-Pierre includes a map of the archipelago as well as a slogan evoking the heritage, history and philately of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.
This illustrated cover (sale price : € 2.00 in 2015, unknown print run) was put into circulation on August 14, 2015 (if I'm right) and evokes the île aux Marins ("The Island of the Sailors"), a small island of the archipelago of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, located a few hundred meters off the port of Saint-Pierre.
The visual of the preprinted stamp is the same as one of the two engraved stamps (nominal value of € 0.30 initially) of a series issued on May 29, 2002, showing a net mender at work.

A beautiful photograph (by Thierry Vogensthal) of this island in winter is depicted on the other side of this envelope above, with in particular the church Notre-Dame des Marins.
This small island had a high activity until the end of the 19th century thanks to cod fishing with a village having counted up to 600 inhabitants.
Uninhabited since 1963, the island experienced a revival of activity in the 1980s with the renovation of the old fishermen's houses and public buildings. Currently, the île aux Marins is only inhabited in good season (from May to September).

The card above (inside this prepaid cover) includes the same photograph as the one on the envelope, showing a wooden dwelling house ("Maison Morel") and its adjoining (saline) workshop, being restored by the local association "Safeguarding the Archipelago's Heritage".
This house, built in 1916, was classified as a historical monument in 2011.
