"Varanasi city" stamps on FDC from India

A big thank you Alka for this new First Day Cover, with (very simple) postmark from Kolkata, this time concerning the stamp issued on October 24, 2016, dedicated to the city of Varanasi, formerly called Benares.
Located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi would have been founded in the 7th century BC, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied urban centers in the world.
In Sarnath, on the outskirts of Varanasi, Buddha made his first sermon after the Illumination and the city is quoted in the Hindu epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana.
An emblematic symbol of Hinduism, Varanasi was looted or destroyed several times by Muslims in the past, explaining the rarity of ancient monuments, most of the temples dating from the 17th or 18th century.

Located on the left bank of the Ganges, Varanasi, mostly dedicated to Shiva, is the city that hosts the most pilgrims in India and is one of the seven sacred cities of Hinduism.
Varanasi is particularly famous for its ghats, its banks covered with stone steps allowing Hindu pilgrims to descend to the river in order to practice ritual ablutions and offerings.
More than 80 ghats have been recorded in Varanasi, one of the most famous and spectacular being Dashashwamedh Ghat, featured on that stamp (5 Rp, print run : 301,590) designed by Alka Sharma.
Very easy to design stamps in India, you've just to find a photograph on a website (by Vishal Vishwakarma here) and it is done !
