On May 4, 2017, the Irish Post (An Post) put into circulation its EUROPA series consisting of two stamps, devoted to the theme of castles this year.
There are more than 30,000 castles it seems on the Irish territory (including Northern Ireland), including more or less ruined sites.
The Irish Post has chosen two of the country's most famous castles on these two stamps, the Dublin Castle (€ 1.00, print run: 122,000) and the King John's Castle in Limerick (€ 1.35, print run: 94,000).
Printed in France by Cartor Security Printing, these two stamps have been designed from nice photographs by Kelvin Gillmor.

A big thank you Carolyn for this great cover sent on August 24, 2017 from Donadea ("Domhnach Dheá" in Gaelic), a civil parish located in the north of Kildare county, franked with these two stamps!
Dublin Castle was built from the 12th century, most of the current buildings dating back to the 18th century.
Now used as a conference center, this site was the seat of British rule in Ireland for many centuries, until 1922.
King John's Castle, built at the beginning of the 13th century under the orders of King John of England, is a fortified castle built on King's Island, an island located on the Shannon River in the medieval city of Limerick.
This site, splendid example of the Anglo-Norman fortified architecture, underwent many sieges especially in the 17th century.

On August 1, 2017, the Korean Post put into circulation a nice series of two stamps (330 won, print run: 600,000 each) devoted to the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Independence Hall of Korea.
These 2 stamps, designed by Shin, Jae-yong, were printed by Cartor in a unique sheet composed of 16 stamps (8 of each) including embossed parts and special transparent foil.
These 2 stamps (with a part of the top margin) appear on the pretty letter below with FDC cancellations from Nambusan. Thank you very much Ji-Ho!
Inaugurated on August 15, 1987 in Cheonan (about 80 km south of Seoul), this Independence Hall of Korea is a site of memory and a museum devoted to the sacrifice of Koreans for the independence of their country and especially during the period of Japanese occupation.

This memorial consists of a total of 37 buildings covering a surface area of 400 km2 and in particular about ten thematic halls (the origins of the nation, the restoration of national sovereignty...) and the Grand Hall of the Nation, the largest Asian building made of roof tiles (126 x 68 meters) culminating at more than 45 meters.
It is this Grand Hall of the nation which is featured on the stamp on the left, the other stamp showing the Statue of Indomitable Koreans (made from 274 granite stones) located in this same building.
This memorial is also made up of the Monument of the nation, a sculpture culminating at 51 meters high and symbolizing the wings of a bird in the sky representing freedom, and the Monument of reunification comprising in its center the bronze bell of the Unification, sounding to express the aspiration of the Koreans to a peaceful reunification.

Ji-Ho was also kind enough to send me the special prepaid card (300 won) above with its associated postmark from Nambusan dated of July 31, 2017.
This card was published on the occasion of the 102nd World Esperanto Congress (Universala Kongreso de Esperanto), held in Seoul from 22 to 29 July 2017.
The stamp depicts a portrait of the Polish medical doctor Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof (1859-1917), widely known for creating Esperanto in his "Unua Libro" work published in Russian in 1887.
In order to be usable, Esperanto is often presented as an effective and economically equitable solution to the problem of communication between people with different mother tongues.

"50th Anniversary of ASEAN - National flower" stamp set on FDC from Malaysia

On August 8, 2017, 8 of the 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries, all excepting Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar, issued a joint stamp on the theme of "national flowers" in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN.
After Singapore, I was lucky enough to receive the nice official FDC below, with postmarks from Ipoh, regarding the stamp and the souvenir sheet put into circulation by the Malaysian Post. Thank you very much Khor!
Singapore and Malaysia are the only countries to have issued a stamp + 1 souvenir sheet, featuring Hibiscus rosa-sinensis flowers here, Malaysia's national flower since 1960, as well as two species of butterflies and a bee.
To note the illustration on this envelope, a stylized bird whose wings are composed of the national flags of the 10 countries of the ASEAN (the flag of the Philippines is represented upside down, it seems...).

The ASEAN Post's logo (what is exactly this postal organization?) is included on the body of this bird as well as on the stamp and the souvenir sheet.
The Malaysian Post proposed in 2015 the idea of issuing every two years (on August 8) a joint stamp series (with a different theme each time) by the ASEAN member countries, including this ASEAN Post's logo, in order to strengthen cooperation between the 10 postal administrations.
This series of August 8, 2017 is therefore the first of a long series to come...
This logo of the ASEAN Post, an envelope evoking a dove with the ASEAN emblem inside, was chosen after an inter-postal logo design competition among the 10 member countries, won by the Post of Vietnam.

Historical and cultural ties between Kyrgyzstan and China - new KEP's m/s

The People's Republic of China was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Kyrgyzstan in 1992, the two countries having a common border and a long trade tradition, especially through the ancient Silk Road.
China is today the first foreign investor and the first economic partner of Kyrgyzstan, looking in parallel after the stability of the country sharing its border with the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region where strong tensions with the Chinese central government exist for several years...
On June 29, 2017, the Kyrgyz Express Post put into circulation a splendid souvenir sheet of two stamps devoted to the theme of "Historical and cultural ties between Kyrgyzstan and China" as part of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Designed by Lilian Iaţco, this souvenir sheet (print run: 6,000) is present on the letter above sent on August 8, 2017 from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan!
The stamp on the left (50 KGS) is featuring a portrait of Li Bai (701-762) or Li Po, one of the greatest Chinese poets, born in Suyab, an ancient city on the Silk Road, today in Kyrgyzstan.
The poetry of Li Bai is characterized by its spontaneity and bears the mark of Taoism, mixing dream and reality. Most of his 1000 poems are devoted to alcohol, women and wild nature such as his poem "The Ching Ting Mountain" illustrated on the other stamp (100 KGS).
This poem is inscribed in Chinese and Kyrgyz in the margin of this sheet at the bottom left: "The birds have vanished down the sky. Now the last cloud drains away. We sit together, the mountain and me, until only the mountain remains".

I was also lucky enough to receive the very nice official FDC above (print run: 400) regarding this same souvenir sheet, with its First Day cancellation (designed by Lilian Iaţco) depicting the Great Wall of China and the Burana Tower (9th century, vestige of the ancient city of Balasagun), one of the symbols of Kyrgyzstan.
This Ching Ting Mountain (east-central China, Anhui province) is considered in China as "the mountain of Poetry", having inspired the greatest Chinese poets.
About this mountain, Li Bai would have said: "Only Ching Ting Mountain can keep attracting you without boredom".

The Kyrgyz Express Post has also put into circulation the two great maxicards above (print run: 250 each) including the two stamps of this series, as well as the FDC postmark.
These two cards (selling price of the lot: 210 KGS), numbered from MC-17 to MC-18, were also designed from the illustrations of Lilian Iaţco.

On August 1, 2017, the Chunghwa Post of Taiwan issued a new series of two stamps, without nominal value, in order to cope with the needs caused by changes in domestic postage rates.
The Taiwanese Post issued these kind of stamps for the first time in 1991 (Cloisonne enamel lions, collections of the National Palace Museum), these two new stamps being able to be used respectively for a domestic ordinary letter up to 20g (NT $ 8) and for domestic printed paper up to 20g, for example newspaper, periodicals, advertising items (NT $ 6).

Thank you very much George for this nice First Day Cover above regarding these two stamps!
These two stamps (design: Up Creative Design and Advertising Corporation), each printed in a sheet of 100 stamps, are featuring a white dove holding respectively an item of printed matter in its beak (on a yellow background) and a letter (on a blue background).
Symbol of peace and integrity, this dove is meant to evoke an image of friendship and trustworth regarding the Taiwanese postal administration.

World and music heritage, sports and drawing competition on cover from Spain

Thank you very much Luis for this interesting letter sent on August 9, 2017 from the city of Alicante, franked with 4 stamps devoted to very different themes!
The stamp on the right (€ 0.29) and its attached label, is part of a souvenir sheet (6 stamps + 6 labels, print run: 600,000) issued on March 22, 2006, entitled "On the verge of the impossible" ("Al filo de lo imposible"), the name of a TV show of the RTVE (started in 1982) devoted to adventure sports in rare places on the planet, mountain biking in the Pyrenees mountains here.
The stamp in the center (€ 0.24 - 40 pesetas) is also part of a souvenir sheet (12 stamps, print run: 1,200,000) issued on November 30, 2001, devoted to various Spanish sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona here (registered in 1997).

This Hospital, associated with the Palau de la Música Catalana, designed by Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and completed in 1930, is considered as an outstanding example of the imaginative and exuberant Art Nouveau style that flowered in early 20th century Barcelona.
The self-adhesive stamp at the bottom left (€ 0.50) is part of a series of two stamps, issued on February 1, 2017, reproducing drawings (general and youth categories) from the Disello contest organized by the Spanish Post.
That stamp (1st Prize - general category) is devoted to a composition of Eduardo M. Gea Martínez entitled "Fragiles", showing two paper elephants, a mother (with a tear running on its face) and her baby, contemplating a desolate landscape...
The last stamp (domestic rate A2 - € 0.60), issued on July 1, 2015, is devoted to the famous classical guitarist, concertist and composer Narciso Yepes (1927-1997), one of the only musicians to use a guitar with ten strings from 1965.
Yepes became known in 1947 performing the "Aranjuez Concert", from maestro Joaquín Rodrigo, conducted by Ataúlfo Argenta. He later settled in Paris for several years and composed the famous music of the French film "Jeux interdits" (1952).

"50th Anniversary of ASEAN - National flower" stamp on FDC from Singapore

On August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, five countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand) founded the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a political, economic and cultural organization whose principal aims include accelerating economic growth, social progress, and sociocultural evolution among its members, alongside the protection of regional stability, in the context of the Cold War.
ASEAN is today composed of 10 member countries after the accession of Brunei Darussalam in 1984, Vietnam in 1995, Laos in 1997, Myanmar in 1997 and Cambodia in 1999.
In 2015, these 10 countries had put into circulation a joint stamp series (same design) devoted to the creation of the ASEAN Economic Community, constituting an entity of 625 million people (9% of the world population) and the 7th largest economy in the world.

In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of ASEAN, a new joint series was released on August 8, 2017, focusing on the national flowers of each country.
The Singapore version (in two copies), devoted to the Vanda 'Miss Joaquim' orchid (Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim, an hybrid flower created in 1893), national flower since 1981, appears on the pretty official FDC above, with a cancellation representing the ASEAN Post's emblem, also present on the stamp. Thank you very much Terence!
I really like this very elegant stamp designed by the young graphic designer Ivory Seah who signed this envelope on the first day of issue.
I do not know exactly what this "ASEAN Post" is, maybe a kind of PostEurop organization of the ASEAN nations?
To note also on this envelope the special postmark on the left evoking also the 50 years of ASEAN, with these two open hands (evoking a bird flying, in reference to the one present on this ASEAN Post's logo?).

Unless I am mistaken, only 8 of the 10 ASEAN countries have issued the same type of stamp, Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar not participating it seems...
That stamp from Singapore, printed in Thailand in a sheet of 10 stamps, has a domestic "1st Local" nominal value (currently $ 0.30) for a shipment up to 20g, hence this additional label ($ 0.70) to reach the current rate ($ 1.30) for a shipment up to 20g to the countries of the Zone 3 (including France).
The SingPost has released several philatelic items (in particular a collector's sheet including this same stamp with a value of $ 5.00) regarding this issue, some of which having been withdrawn from circulation after an error was detected (Cambodia was omitted from the list of the 5 countries that joined ASEAN after 1967, which is the case on the back of this FDC above) !

130 years of the Pneumatic Post in Prague - special Czech postmark

On June 21, 2017, the Czech Post put in circulation an interesting stamp (domestic permanent rate "A" - 16 CZK currently) on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the Prague pneumatic post ("Pražská potrubní pošta").
As a reminder, the pneumatic post (also called pneumatic telegraph sometimes) is a system used to deliver quickly mail (telegrams, letters and small packets...) through pressurized air tubes, inside cylindrical containers.
These pneumatic post systems were developed in several major cities from the second half of the 19th century (London in 1861, Berlin in 1865, Paris in 1866, Vienna in 1875...) before being abandoned from the middle of the 20th century, replaced by new means of communication.

It should be noted that this pneumatic system in Prague (55 km long) is the last one still in operation in the world, although it stopped operating following the floods in 2002...
On August 6, 2017, the Czech Post put into circulation (in the main post office of Prague 1) a new special postmark devoted to the 130th anniversary of this pneumatic postal network in Prague.
This postmark, designed by Antonín Šmíd, with the mention "přeprava telegramů" ("telegraph transport"), was applied to the letter above. Thank you very much Slavek!
I suppose that the right part of this postmark is featuring a part of a terminal used for sending or receiving the cylindrical containers...
Slavek franked his letter with that stamp (in 2 copies) devoted to the same theme, with the presence of the "Praga 2018" logo, the name of the international philatelic exhibition organized in Prague from 15 to 18 August 2018.

Kyrgyzstan (KEP) - Belarus joint stamp set : horse breeds

I have already published on this blog an article about a letter from Belarus franked with the two stamps of this joint series issued on June 30, 2017 with the Kyrgyz Express Post (KEP), devoted to representative horse breeds from both countries, the Trakehner (Belarus) and the Novokyrgyz (Kyrgyzstan).
I was lucky to receive this pretty letter below sent on August 8, 2017 from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, franked with this same joint stamp set!

Such as the Post of Belarus, KEP issued these two stamps (50 and 100 KGS) in a same sheetlet consisting of 6 stamps (3 of each), with a mountain landscape in the background (a landscape of lakes and meadows for Belarus).
These two stamps (print run: 6,000 each) have been designed by Aliona Cojocari from photographs by Alina Khomich (Trakehner) and Vladimir Voronin (Novokyrgyz).
As a reminder, the Trakehner (50 KGS) is one of the oldest German horse races, with origins dating from the 18th century in East Prussia (Kaliningrad Oblast today). This robust and fast breed was created for the needs of cavalry and is now widely used for equestrian sports.
The Novokyrgyz breed (100 KGS), which is specific to Kyrgyzstan, was developed at the beginning of the 20th century by Soviet scientists, originating from the crossing of local Kyrgyz horses, thoroughbreds and Don horses.

I was lucky enough to receive also the great official FDC above (print run: 400, selling price: 210 KGS) regarding this series, with a Novokyrgyz horse head on the illustration to the left.
Below is the sheetlet in which these two stamps were printed (in Moldova by Nova Imprim), with the mention "Joint issue Kyrgyzstan-Belarus. Horses" in the margins, in Kyrgyz, Russian, Belarusian and English and, as usual, one QR code at the bottom right, allowing to connect directly to the "Kyrgyz Express Post" website.

The Kyrgyz Express Post has also put into circulation the two maxicards below (print run : 250 each) regarding respectively the two stamps in this series, with the FDC cancellation.
These two cards (selling price of the lot : 210 KGS), numbered from MC-19 to MC-20, were also designed from photographs by Alina Khomich and Vladimir Voronin.

Mercosul 2017 (Public transport) stamp on FDC from Brazil

Merci beaucoup Marcelo !
The member countries of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur in Spanish, Mercosul in Portuguese), an economic and political community among several South American countries, have made a habit of issuing every year some stamps having a common theme.
After the theme of butterflies in 2016, the theme chosen in 2017, public transport, should normally be declined in the following 4 countries: Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Venezuela, member since 2012 and suspended since the end of 2016 and Bolivia, in the course of accession, should not participate this year...
It is the Brazilian version of this Mercosul series, issued on July 28, 2017, which appears in two copies on the First Day Cover below, with postmarks from Salvador, sent on August 10, 2017 from São Paulo. Thank you very much Marcelo!

I really like this First Day cancellation (also put into circulation in Brasilia) looking like a metro train!
That stamp (R $ 1.50, print run: 360,000), designed by Marcio Horta (Brazilian Ministry of Cities), is devoted to the metro of the city of Salvador, capital of the State of Bahia.
This public transport network, partly operational since 2014 (14 km today, 42 km in term (23 stations) and a goal of 700 000 people transported per day), is one of the most modern in the country.
The project consists of two lines, a 17.7 km long Line 1 (Lapa - Águas Claras / Cajazeiras) and a 24.2 km long Line 2 (North Access - Lauro de Freitas).
With this project, the metropolis of Salvador will have the third largest metro network in Brazil, after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The official logo of Mercosur (constellation of the Southern Cross) is included at the top right on that stamp.

"150 years of the birth of Sun Yat-sen" stamp on postcard from the Philippines

Thank you very much Terence for this postcard sent on June 19, 2017 from the Philippine city of Vigan, franked with the stamp of a series (that stamp + 1 souvenir sheet), issued on November 12, 2016, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), considered as the "Father of modern China" and first president of the Republic of China in 1912.
To note these two different round postmarks as well as this red imprint (value 0 peso ?), at the bottom right (Ilocos referring to the region of the island of Luzon where Vigan is located), with the PHLPost's logo.
Vigan is a famous city in the Philippines because it is inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List (since 1999), considered as the best-preserved example of planned Spanish colonial town in Asia, established in the 16th century.

On that stamp (18 Pesos, print run: 120,000), designed by Rodine C. Teodoro, Sun Yat-Sen is represented on a photograph during a meeting in 1912 with Mariano Ponce (1863-1918), writer and active member of the "Propaganda Movement", the period of time when native Filipinos were calling for reforms and more rights, at the end of the 19th century.
Ponce was chosen by President Aguinaldo in 1898 to represent the First Philippine Republic, the short regime experienced by the Philippines between 1899 and 1901, ruled by the independentists during the American-Filipino war.
Sun Yat-sen, a Ponce's friend, was a fervent ally of this movement of emancipation of the Filipino people against the American occupier, especially by favoring the purchase of weapons.

Stamp from the "Taste - the 5 senses" booklet on FDC from France

Merci beaucoup Roland !
After 4 booklets (12 different self-adhesive stamps) put into circulation in 2014 (smell), 2015 (sight, touch) and 2016 (hearing), the French Post issued a last booklet (general sale on August 5, 2017) concerning the 5 senses, this time devoted to taste.
This booklet, composed of 12 stamps at the permanent "Green Letter 20g - € 0.73 currently" rate, was designed by the illustrator Cécile Gambini (born in 1973) and printed at 2.2 million copies.
One of the 12 stamps of this booklet was used on the First Day Cover below, with cancellation from Paris (Carré d'Encre) of August 4, 2017. Thank you very much Roland!

I really like the simplicity of the postmark with this strawberry in reference to one of the stamps of this booklet having the mention "sweet acidulous strawberry".
The 12 stamps in this booklet evoke the important role of taste (intimately related to smell) in food by allowing the analysis of the flavor of dishes through the 5 primary flavors: sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness and umami (specific to glutamates).
The stamp above is featuring an allegory of the "on fire" ("enflammé"in French) flavor of Espelette pepper, a mildly hot chili pepper (classified as an AOC and APO product) grown in the French part of the Basque Country.
Its perfume is developed because it is dried in the sun for a long period, and is used in gastronomy replacing black pepper.

International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017 - stamp from Spain

The official launch of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017 took place on January 18th in Madrid, where the headquarters of the World Tourism Organization are located.
The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development in the context of the universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This International Year aims to support a change in policies, business practices and consumer behavior towards a more sustainable tourism sector that contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Several postal administrations have issued stamps on this topic in 2017 : Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Moldova, Pakistan, Tonga, Cook Islands...

On January 17, 2017, the Spanish Post has put into circulation a series of two self-adhesive stamps (€ 1.25 and €1.35) on the same theme ("Año Internacional del Turismo Sostenible para el Desarrollo" in Spanish).
Thank you very much Johan for this letter sent on July 21, 2017 from the city of Seville, franked with one of the stamps of this series!
The logo of this International Year (present on the left on the two stamps) represents the Earth and its inhabitants who travel in a sustainable, clean and responsible way, such as seeds, to illustrate the fundamental purposes of tourism : breaking boundaries, growing understanding and connecting culture and knowledge all around the world.
These two stamps show footprints respectively on the sand of a beach and on the snow of a mountain. With more than 75 million tourists in 2016, Spain is the 3rd most visited country in the world, behind France and the USA.

First Moldova-Romania Postcrossing Meeting - special postmark from Chișinău

On July 29, 2017, the main post office in Chişinău (MD-2012) hosted for the first time a Postcrossing meeting between members from Moldova and Romania.
As a reminder, Postcrossing is a project created in 2005, allowing its members to send and receive postcards (from random people) from all over the world. To date, this website includes about 688,408 members from 211 different countries or territories (more than 42 million cards received), but is rather confidential in France with only 13,179 members...
Since 2011, about 15 postal administrations have dedicated stamps to Postcrossing, Romania, Indonesia or Switzerland being the last ones this year.

On the occasion of this Postcrossing meeting, the Post of Moldova put into circulation on July 29, 2017, a special postmark (conception: Maria Maximenco), symbolizing a stamp crossed by a river including the names of the two countries (probably a reference to the Prout river which separates them to the west).
A big thank you Nicolae for this nice postcard (No 20/2013, design: Alexandr Kornienko, print run: 1,000) including this postmark, franked with one of the two EUROPA stamps (L 5.40) issued on April 18, 2012, devoted to the theme "Visit..." ("Vizitaţi..."), the "Mileştii Mici" Quality Wines Complex especially here!
The other stamp on the top right (L 1.20) is part of a set of two stamps, issued on August 16, 2014, devoted to sheep breeds, the Karakul here.
The stamp in two copies above (1.50 rubles and then 1.50 Leu from February 1, 2006) is part of the first definitive series in Moldova (5 stamps) issued on May 24, 1992, depicting the country's coat of arms.

To note that this postcard is marked "Postcrossing" on the left and is devoted to the collections of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History of Chişinău, with in particular the reconstitution of a traditional interior on the other side above, with a weaving loom, tapestries and various pieces of pottery.

"Endangered birds" stamp set on FDC from Brazil

On June 19, 2017, the Brazilian Post put into circulation an interesting series of 3 stamps devoted to different species of birds of the country ("Aves Brasileiras"), endemic for two of them, but especially very rare or critically endangered...
Designed by Raphael Dutra in a very simple style on a green background, these 3 stamps have the characteristic of having been printed in gummed version in a rectangular format (nominal value: R$ 1.25 for each stamp) in sheet of 15 stamps (5 of each) and in self-adhesive version in a square format (1st class permanent rate for non-commercial domestic mail) in sheet of 30 stamps (10 of each).
The 3 se-tenant stamps of the gummed version (print run: 600,000) are present on the First Day Cover below with cancellations from the city of João Pessoa (capital of the state of Paraíba).

Thank you very much Marcelo for this letter sent on August 10, 2017 from the city of São Paulo!
To note that the same FDC cancellation was also issued in the cities of Brasília, Poços de Caldas, Foz do Iguaçu and Crato.
The logo of the 8th edition of the international philatelic exhibition "Birdpex 2018" (organized every 4 years) devoted to the theme of birds, is present on these 3 stamps. This 8th edition will take place in Mondorf-les-Bains, Luxembourg from 19 to 21 May 2018.
The Latin names of the birds are printed in micro-text on these stamps, along the branches of trees.
The stamp above on the right features an Araripe manakin (Antilophia bokermanni), an endemic species (discovered in 1996) of the rainforests of the Chapada do Araripe in the state of Ceará, categorized as critically endangered of extinction by IUCN.

Marcelo was kind enough to send me the 2nd First Day Cover above with this time the 3 stamps in self-adhesive version (to note the notches "BR" on 2 of the 4 sides - print run: 1,350,000).
The stamp on the left is devoted to the Purple-winged ground dove (Claravis geoffroyi), living in the Atlantic Forest (southeast of Brazil), a species considered extinct since the 1980s even though about 50 individuals would still exist in the wild.
The last stamp is devoted to the Blue-eyed ground dove (Columbina cyanopis), endemic to Brazil (Cerrado biome region), one of the most unknown bird species in the world, considered to be extinct before 12 individuals were observed by ornithologists in 2015 in the state of Minas Gerais.

"International Botanical Congress 2017" stamp set on FDC from Kyrgyzstan (KEP)

The 19th edition of the International Botanical Congress (IBC), authorized by the International Association of Botanical and Mycological Societies (IABMS), was held for the first time in China (in Shenzhen, near Hong Kong) from July 23 to 29, 2017.
This Congress, organized every 6 years (the 1st edition took place in Paris in 1900), is the largest international conference in the fields related to plant sciences (mycology, ecology, agriculture, horticulture, systematics...).
Curiously, the Chinese Post did not issue any stamps devoted to this Congress, which is not the case with the Kyrgyz Express Post with a splendid series of two stamps, put into circulation on July 7, 2017, depicting two species of particularly appreciated flowers in China, peony and chrysanthemum.

These two stamps (50 and 100 KGS), designed by Anastasia Pariniuc from drawings by Ivanka Costru, were used to frank the cover above sent by registered mail on August 8, 2017 from Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
To note this vignette with the slogan "Make Philately Great Again", I love it!
These two stamps (print run: 5,000 each) were printed in Moldova (by Nova Imprim) each in a sheetlet composed of 5 stamps + 1 coupon.
Chrysanthemum, particularly the gongju, hangju or hangbaiju varieties, is a symbol of longevity in China, while peony, especially the species Paeonia suffruticosa, is a symbol of the city of Luoyang and is considered unofficially as one of the Chinese national flowers.

I was lucky enough to receive the beautiful official FDC above (print run: 400, selling price: 210 KGS) regarding this series, with these same flowers on the illustration to the left.
The FDC cancellation, designed by Ivanka Costru, is featuring a peony flower.
Below are the two sheetlets in which these two stamps were printed, with the mention "19th International Botanical Congress in Shenzhen (PRC)" in the margins, in Kyrgyz, Russian, Chinese and English and, as usual, one QR code at the bottom right, allowing to connect directly to the "Kyrgyz Express Post" website.
The 20th edition of this International Botanical Congress will take place in 2023 for the first time in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro.
