One of the New7Wonders of the World on new stamp from Spain : Machu Picchu

After the Great Wall of China, the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza in Mexico and the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in 2015, the Taj Mahal in India in 2016, the Spanish Post has put into circulation on September 14, 2017, a new stamp in its series devoted to the "New7Wonders of the world", this time with the Machu Picchu in Peru.
As a reminder, these 7 new wonders of the world were designated between 2000 and 2007 following a public vote organized by Swiss businessman Bernard Weber and the New7Wonders Foundation based in Zurich (in reference to the seven wonders of the ancient world).
To note that UNESCO had at the time immediately said there were no link between this project and the World Heritage List...

This new stamp (€ 1.35, print run: 240,000) issued in sheet of 12 stamps, was used on the nice letter above, sent from Barcelona on October 9, 2017 (the World Post Day). Thank you very much Josep!
Like the previous four stamps, that stamp has a panoramic shape with the country's flag in the background.
According to UNESCO (this site has been inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1983), the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu, discovered in 1911 at 2,430 m above sea-level in the Andes, "was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height".
Built in the 15th century, Machu Picchu was abandoned when the Inca Empire was conquered by the Spaniards in the 16th century.
The last 2 new wonders of the world to be featured on the next stamps in this series : Petra in Jordan and the Colosseum in Rome, Italy.
