India-Canada joint stamp issue: Diwali, the Festival of Lights

Merci beaucoup Alka !
As already mentioned on this blog, the two postal administrations of Canada and India put into circulation, on September 21, 2017, a joint series (2 stamps) dedicated to Diwali, the Festival of Lights, an important event celebrated every year by many Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains around the world.
Diwali (which started in 2017 on October 19th) is of course celebrated in India but also by Canadian citizens of Indian origin (about 5% of the population).
I was lucky to receive this nice letter, sent on November 14, 2017 from the city of of Kolkata (capital of West Bengal), franked with the souvenir sheet (print run: 110,000) including these two joint stamps. Thank you very much Alka!

To note that these two stamps featuring lamps with fireworks in background, designed respectively by Doreen Colonello (Entro Communications) and Alka Sharma (Indian Post), were also printed at 305,000 copies each.
This joint set, a first between the two countries, coincided with the 150th anniversary of the creation of the Canadian Confederation and the 70th anniversary of Indian independence.
The two countries maintain close diplomatic and economic relations, in particular in fields such as civilian nuclear, scientific and technological cooperation, agriculture, civil aviation, energy, rail transport, education, technologies of the information and communications or higher education.
Finally, to note that the same theme of Diwali (with Hanukkah) was already in the spotlight on the India-Israel joint series issued in 2012.
