"Mediterranean shag" stamp on FDC from Monaco

On June 7, 2018, the OETP of Monaco put into circulation a new stamp belonging to the series "Heritage Species", dedicated to the Mediterranean shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii). That stamp (print run: 45,000), designed by François Guiol and engraved by Elsa Catelin, printed by Phil@poste in sheetlet of 10 stamps, appears on the First Day cover below.
Also worthy of note is the cachet offered to the public by the OETP of Monaco during the last "Paris-Philex" stamp exhibition held in Paris from 7 to 10 June 2018, showing the Notre-Dame cathedral with the Prince's Palace of Monaco in the background.

The Mediterranean shag (about 10,000 pairs in total), one of the 3 subspecies of European shag (with the Atlantic shag and the Moroccan shag), occupies the Mediterranean, in a fragmented way from the eastern shores of Spain to the Black Sea.
In 2015, the discovery of a successful nesting of Mediterranean shag on the cliff of the Monaco's Rock, was the first official mention of nesting of the species in this sector of the Mediterranean coast (a colony is also present in France in the Bouches-du-Rhône).
This species (15 individuals recorded in 2017) is protected in the Principality and relatively uncommon on this coastline.
