Sweden-Finland joint stamp issue : Fortress of Suomenlinna (Sveaborg)

On May 4, 2006, the postal administrations of Sweden and Finland put into circulation an interesting joint series (3 stamps) devoted to the Suomenlinna Fortress (Sveaborg in Swedish), built in the second half of the 18th century by Sweden on a group of islands located at the entrance to the harbor of Helsinki and which is an example of the European military architecture of the time.
Thank you very much Dragan for this nice letter sent from Malmö (date not readable), stamped with the Swedish version of this series (3 stamps at 10 SEK), designed by Erik Bruun and engraved by Martin Mörck!
These 3 stamps represent frigates dating from the time of the construction of this fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, with different parts of this site in the background.

These three stamps show respectively the frigate Pajama in front of the King's gate Kuninkaanportti, the frigate Turkoma in front of the fortress Tenaille von Fersen and the frigate Undenma in front of the Bastion Hjärne.
According to UNESCO, Suomenlinna is a fortress built gradually from 1748 by the Swedish admiral Augustin Eherensvärd (1710-1772) who then adapted Vauban's theories to the very special geographical features of the region. This site has served to defend three different sovereign states over the years: the Kingdom of Sweden, the Russian Empire and most recently the Republic of Finland.
After Finland gained independence in 1917, the fortress was renamed Suomenlinna ("Fortress of Finland") and served as a garrison and a harbour. The military role of the fortress declined after World War II, and in 1973 the area was converted for civilian purposes.
