"600 years of the death of King Wenceslas IV" postmark on cover from Czech Republic

600 years to the day after his death, the Czech Post issued, on August 16, 2019, a special postmark dedicated to King of Bohemia Wenceslas IV (1361-1419).
Designed by Jiří Neumann, this postmark was put into circulation by the post office No. 12 located in the castle (Hrad) of Prague and applied on the beautiful letter below. Thank you very much Slavek!
This cancellation is featuring a Common Kingfisher, who was one of the symbols of Wenceslas IV, belonging to the dynasty of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia between 1378 and 1419.
Wenceslas IV had chosen this bird in reference to the Alcyone of Antiquity, an age-old symbol of conjugal fidelity and love.
We find in particular this bird depicted in the Wenceslas Bible, an illuminated manuscript composed between 1390 and 1400 in Prague and preserved today at the Austrian National Library in Vienna.

Slavek chose the EUROPA stamp (permanent tariff "E" for a priority shipment up to 50g in Europe - 39 CZK) issued this year, on April 24, 2019, devoted to the theme of the national birds, to the Common Kingfisher also !
Lazy, incompetent, more interested in hunting and alcohol than in his royal obligations, Wenceslas IV was nicknamed "the idle", far from the greatness of his famous father Charles IV ...
After 40 years of a chaotic reign, he died suddenly of a heart attack on August 16, 1419, leaving his kingdom in the grip of a serious political crisis that will lead to the Hussite wars.
An exhibition is currently organized at the Prague Castle, dedicated to Wenceslas IV, in order to rehabilitate this king, especially through culture and the emergence under his reign of the architectural style called "beautiful style" ("krásný styl"), similar to late Gothic (finer human representations and greater attention to nature).
