According to UNESCO, Pingyao (province of Shanxi) is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a traditional Han Chinese city, founded in the 14th century. Merci beaucoup Wenbo !
Thank you very much Wenbo!
The old city is considered to be turtle-shaped by its residents, with Gongji Gate in the north representing the head, the four gates in the east and west representing the legs, and Yingxun Gate in the south representing the tail. This temple is notable for its collection of more than 2,000 decorated clay statues dated from the 12th to 19th centuries, mainly from the periods of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.

Eric Contessehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17853081878971585059noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6657354569454138459.post-71743056023875793722024-03-16T13:04:00.000+02:002024-03-16T13:04:17.144+02:00"Universal Declaration of Human Rights 75th Anniversary" postmark on cover from Moldova

The series continued until 1955 with illustrations of other personalities. From 1956 to 1958, the stamps focused on areas of activity: childcare, coal mining and agriculture.
This idea that people help others through their work has lost none of its relevance today and should be brought into the present with these new stamps. On the one hand, this refers to the origins of charity stamps as an instrument for financing social assistance. On the other hand, by selecting the motifs, the different areas of work of the social associations can be presented in an exemplary manner.
Given the current situation, the 3 stamps above have for theme caregivers (€0.85 + €0.40 - two protective hands that provide support and radiate security), help to refugees (€1.00 + €0.45 - hands forming a roof, symbolizing a safe place for refugees) and aid to flood victims (€1.60 + €0.55 - hands that protect from floods and work together to reconstruction).

Eric Contessehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17853081878971585059noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6657354569454138459.post-63644217849149257972024-03-15T13:11:00.003+02:002024-03-15T13:11:57.565+02:00"The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III" stamp set on FDC from Jersey

pays).
Korean traditional games are traditional recreational activities passed down from generation to generation. To this day, Korea still preserves over 200 different traditional games.
Paengi chigi, pictured on the stamp above, is a traditional Korean game played on icy surfaces or on the ground by striking the top with a stick or by winding a string around its body and releasing it. Various variations include meolli chigi, where the top is sent as far as possible by striking it forcefully from a starting line, and ssaum nori, where spinning tops collide to knock over the opponent. But in the early Middle Ages there were also a lot of forests in the region. On the site of the current center of Houten, the Franks built several farms around a church around the year 700. The village was then called Haltna, or "place in the forest".
Which explains this theme of trees for these two pretty souvenir sheets.

Eric Contessehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17853081878971585059noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6657354569454138459.post-76283955501517325102024-03-07T20:10:00.000+02:002024-03-07T20:10:27.822+02:00"King Hamad ben Issa Al Khalifa" stamps on cover from Bahrain

The official logo of this 75th anniversary is present on the 2 stamps as well as in the upper margin of the souvenir sheet (with the flags of the 2 countries in the background).
One of these two stamps is dedicated to the incredible site of the ancient city of Sigiriya in Sri Lanka, with its 180 meters high red stone rock ("Lion's Rock") which dominates the jungle from all sides.

From December 15, 2023 to

"Pour Féliciter" ("To congratulate"), from the French
language, but only still used today in that country and Slovakia. This
mention is only used in written language and can mean either "Happy New

Inflation in Laos has increased
significantly since the start of 2022, with rising prices continuing to
inflict hardship on people struggling to earn a living.
The continued
depreciation of the kip, the national currency, has affected the daily
lives of people in Laos, with the cost of living continuing to rise due
to rising commodity prices, especially food.
As most products are
imported, the increase in the cost of goods and services is mainly due
to the depreciation of the kip, Laos being the most affected Southeast
Asian country by the international crisis (inflation rate of 24% in January 2024).
This price increase affects all
sectors of activity in Laos, including the postal sector, the current
rate for sending a postcard abroad being 40,000 kip (almost €2.00), 38,000 kip for a up to 20g cover sent to France!

On November 1, 2023, the Uruguayan Post put into circulation a pretty souvenir sheet dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Chile.
The 2 countries share a common history in that they were once part of the Spanish Empire. During the Spanish colonial period, Chile was then part of the Viceroyalty of Peru and was administered from Lima while Uruguay was governed from the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in Buenos Aires.
In 1818, Chile declared its independence. In 1828, Uruguay gained its independence after the Cisplatinian War.
Officially, the start of diplomatic relations between the two countries dates from July 9, 1869 (155 years ago), while this souvenir sheet strangely evokes 180 years. It seems that the 2 countries chose the designation of Juan Gregorio de las Heras as "Ad hoc Commissioner of the Republic of Uruguay to the Government of Chile" on November 1, 1843.
For many years, Chile and Uruguay have shared recognized international principles, such as democracy, respect for human rights, the validity of the free trade agreement between the two countries, the vocation for peace, multilateralism, integration, peaceful solution to conflicts...

This souvenir sheet (design: Alejandro Muntz, print run: 2,500) is present on the FDC above, sent on February 1, 2024 from the city of Sarandi Grande. Thank you very much Jorge!
This souvenir sheet pays tribute to two great poets, Chilean Gabriela Mistral (90 pesos) and Uruguayan María Eugenia Vaz Ferreira (35 pesos), with the presence of the national coat of arms on the 2 stamps, the flags in the lower margin as well as Copihue flowers (Lapageria rosea), national flower of Chile, top right. The national flower of Uruguay, the flower of the Erythrina crista-galli tree, locally called ceibo (depicted on this envelope at the bottom left) was curiously not chosen in the top left margin of the souvenir sheet...
Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957) is a Chilean poet, Nobel Prize winner for literature in 1945, having contributed so much to Hispanic letters and considered as one of the main references of universal feminine poetry. From a modernist tendency in her beginnings, her poetry drifts towards a personal style, with a familiar and simple language, a great musicality and a symbolism which joins the folk tradition. Her most recurring themes are suffering, religion and political ideas.
María Eugenia Vaz Ferreira (1875-1924) was fiercely independent, tortured by the conflict between her strict Catholic upbringing and her desire to live as a free woman, obsessed by the refusal to "submit" to love. She is the author of poems with tragic lyricism (The Island of the Songs, 1924) and two dramatic works (The Philosopher's Stone and The Pilgrims). She was the first in a line of poets (A. Storni, J. de Ibarbourou, D. Agustini) who illustrated letters from the countries of the Plata.

Eric Contessehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17853081878971585059noreply@blogger.com0
