TAD spécial de Noël à Åland

A special Christmas postmark in Åland

Comme les années précédentes, la poste de l'archipel d'Åland, un territoire autonome rattaché à la Finlande, a mis en circulation (entre le 15 novembre et le 31 décembre 2012) une oblitération spéciale pour affranchir les courriers au départ d'Åland pendant la période de Noël.
C'est ce timbre à date qui figure sur la jolie lettre ci-dessous postée le 14 décembre 2012 de Mariehamn, la principale ville et capitale. Merci beaucoup Liisa :-)
Cette oblitération représente un julbock, cette décoration traditionnelle en forme de petite chèvre (ou bouc) en paille, un des plus vieux symboles des fêtes de Noël dans les pays scandinaves. La mention "God Jul" ("Joyeux Noël" en suédois, la langue officielle d'Åland) est également incluse sur ce TAD.
As it was the case in previous years, the Post of Åland, an autonomous territory being part of Finland, has released (from November 15 and December 31, 2012) a special cancellation to frank the letters sent from Åland during the Christmas period.
It is that postmark that was applied on the beautiful letter below mailed on December 14, 2012 from Mariehamn, the capital and largest city. Thank you very much Liisa :-)
This cancellation is featuring a julbock, this traditional decoration consisting of a small goat made of straw, one of the oldest symbols of Christmas in Scandinavia. The words "God Jul" ("Merry Christmas" in Swedish, the official language of Åland) are also included on this postmark.

Liisa a utilisé en haut à droite l'unique timbre de Noël émis cette année (le 9 octobre) par la poste d'Åland.
Ce timbre, sans valeur faciale, comporte uniquement la mention "Julpost" ("courrier de Noël"), soit 0,60€ actuellement (tarif domestique actuel : 0,75€), permettant ainsi d'envoyer des courriers vers Åland, la Suède et la Finlande pendant les périodes de Noël à un tarif préférentiel !
Ce timbre (tirage : 350000), représentant une jeune fille devant un cadeau en forme de bateau, est le premier conçu par la graphiste finlandaise Minna L. Immonen (née en 1964) pour la poste d'Åland.
Liisa a complété son affranchissement avec 2 timbres plus anciens afin d'atteindre le tarif prioritaire pour un envoi vers l'Europe (0,95€) : une sterne arctique (0,30€, émis le 3 janvier 2000) et une pomme "Strömma" (0,05€, émis le 7 juin 2011).
Liisa has used in the top right the single Christmas stamp issued this year (on October 9th) by the Post of Åland.
This stamp, without any nominal value, is only including the mention "Julpost" ("Christmas Mail"), i.e. € 0.60 currently (current domestic rate : € 0.75), allowing to send letters to Åland, Sweden and Finland during the Christmas period at a discounted price !
This stamp (print run : 350,000), featuring a young girl in front of a boat shaped gift, is the first one created by the Finnish designer Minna L. Immonen (born in 1964) for Åland Post.
Liisa has completed her postage with two oldest stamps to reach the priority rate for a shipment to Europe (€ 0.95) : an Arctic Tern (€ 0.30, issued on January 3, 2000) and a "Strömma" apple (€ 0.05, issued on June 7, 2011).

C'est mon anniversaire aujourd'hui et la poste d'Aland a été la première à y penser en m'envoyant un petit cadeau il y a quelques jours :-)
Sans doute avec quelques arrières pensées (même si je suis déjà client), la poste d'Aland m'a ainsi envoyé une jolie carte maximum concernant le timbre de distributeur émis en début d'année.
It's my birthday today and the Post of Aland was the first one to think about it by sending me a little gift a few days ago :-)
Probably with some ulterior motives (even if I am already a customer), the Post of Aland has so sent me a nice maxicard concerning the franking label issued earlier this year.

Voici ci-dessus le folder qui accompagnait cette carte maximum, une mention sur l'autre face précisant que ce type de carte était exclusivement réservé pour souhaiter les anniversaires des clients de la poste d'Aland...
La poste d'Aland me proposait également d'en profiter pour débuter un abonnement annuel aux cartes maximum (environ 5 sont émises chaque année), pas folle la guêpe...
Here is above the folder that accompanied this maxicard, a statement on the other side mentioning that this type of card was exclusively produced as a birthday present for Aland Post's customers...
The Aland Post also proposed me to take the opportunity to start a standing order for maxicards (about 5 are issued each year), nice try...

Cette carte maximum ci-dessus concerne le timbre de distributeur de type Frama émis le 1er février 2012 (voir le TAD Premier Jour ci-dessus), disponible avec 4 valeurs faciales (0,75€, 0,80€, 0,95€ et 1,00€).
La faciale de 0,95€ ci-dessus correspond à un envoi prioritaire vers l'Europe.
Après une série de vignettes (3 émises en 2009, 2010 et 2011) consacrées à des systèmes de balisage en mer, la vignette ci-dessus est la 1ère d'un nouveau cycle de 3 ans consacré à des anciens appeaux en bois (un eider ici).
Ces types d'appeaux sont utilisés principalement près des côtes par les chasseurs pour attirer des oiseaux (par exemple une femelle pour attirer des oiseaux mâles)...
The maxicard above was issued for the (Frama) franking label issued on February 1, 2012 (see the FDC postmark above), available with four denominations (€ 0.75, € 0.80, € 0.95 and € 1.00).
The nominal value of € 0.95 above corresponds to a priority shipping to Europe.
After a series of labels (three issued in 2009, 2010 and 2011) devoted to buoyage systems in sea, the franking label above is the first of a new 3-years cycle dedicated to old wooden decoys (a eider here).
These types of decoys are used mainly near the coasts by hunters to attract birds (eg female birds to attract males)...

Ce timbre de distributeur ainsi que l'aquarelle reproduite sur cette carte ont été conçues par l'artiste Juha Pykäläinen (né en 1953) qui a déjà créé une quinzaine de timbres dans le passé pour la poste d'Aland.

This franking label as well as the watercolor reproduced on this card have been designed by the artist Juha Pykäläinen (born in 1953) who has already created 15 stamps in the past for the Post of Aland.

Vos vacances d'été dans l'archipel d'Åland, entre la Suède et la Finlande ?
C'est en tout cas à cela que la poste d'Åland nous invite à travers son timbre EUROPA émis le 9 mai 2012 (Journée de l'Europe), dont le thème retenu par PostEurop cette année est "Visitez...".
C'est ce timbre (tirage : 180000), au tarif permanent "Europa" (soit 0,95€ actuellement) qui figure sur la lettre ci-dessous postée le 27 juin 2012 de Mariehamn, capitale d'Åland.

Your summer holidays in the Åland archipelago, between Sweden and Finland ?

It's in any case at what the Post of Åland invites us through its EUROPA stamp issued on May 9, 2012 (Europe's Day), devoted this year to the theme "Visit...", chosen by PostEurop.

It is that stamp (print run : 180,000), with a permanent "Europa" rate (currently € 0.95) that appears on the cover below mailed on June 27, 2012 from Mariehamn, the capital of Åland.

Ce timbre est conçu à partir d'une photographie de Jacob Sauren (son 1er timbre pour Åland) représentant un homme les pieds dans l'eau sur une plage proche de la capitale.
L'île de Kobba klintar, accessible depuis le port ouest de Mariehamn, figure en arrière plan avec le bâtiment de l'ancienne station de pilotage datant de 1862.
A noter que cette même station figurait déjà sur le timbre émis en 2010 par Åland dans le cadre de la série commune des pays nordiques (dont le thème était "la vie sur la côte")...

This stamp is designed from a photograph by Jacob Sauren (his first stamp for Åland) depicting a man, the feet in water, on a beach near the capital.

The island of Kobba klintar, accessible from the Western Harbour of Mariehamn, is featured in the background with the building of the old pilot station dating from 1862.

To note that this same station was already depicted on the stamp issued in 2010 by Åland as part of the common set of Nordic countries (with the theme "Life at the coast")...

A Russia/Aland joint issue

Dans un message publié sur ce blog le 9 juillet 2011, je vous présentais la jolie lettre que j'avais reçu de l'archipel d'Aland, affranchie avec le bloc-feuillet consacré au 150ème anniversaire de la fondation de sa capitale, Mariehamn.
Ce bloc, émis le 21 février 2011, constituait une série commune avec l'administration postale de la fédération de Russie.
Pour rappel, la création de la ville de Mariehamn a en effet eu lieu en 1861 alors que Aland, et la Finlande, faisaient partie de l'Empire de Russie depuis le traité de Fredrikshamn en 1809...
In a message posted on this blog on July 9, 2011, I presented you the nice letter I received from the Aland archipelago, franked with the souvenir sheet devoted to the 150th anniversary of the founding of its capital, Mariehamn.
This sheet, issued on February 21, 2011, was a joint issue with the postal administration of the Russian Federation.
As a reminder, the creation of the city of Mariehamn has indeed taken place in 1861 while Åland and Finland were both part of the Russian Empire since the Treaty of Fredrikshamn in 1809...

J'ai eu la chance de recevoir cette fois la version russe de ce bloc-feuillet (conçu par R. Komsa) sur la lettre ci-dessus, postée le 3 décembre 2011 de la ville de Saint-Petersbourg. Merci beaucoup Youri :-)
A noter l'intéressante oblitération spéciale évoquant les 300 ans de la fondation de la ville (en 2003) ainsi que "le Cavalier de bronze", la célèbre statue équestre de Pierre le Grand (inaugurée en 1782).
Mais revenons à Mariehamn qui doit son nom à l'impératrice de Russie Maria Alexandrovna (1824-1880), épouse du tsar Alexandre II. C'est son portrait, datant de 1857 (Musée de l'Ermitage), par le peintre allemand Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873) qui est reproduit sur le timbre oval de ce bloc-feuillet commun.
I was lucky to receive this time the Russian version of this souvenir sheet (designed by R. Komsa) on the cover above, mailed on December 3, 2011 from the city of St. Petersburg. Thank you very much Yuri :-)
To note the interesting special postmark evoking the 300 years of the founding of the city (in 2003) and "The Bronze Horseman", the famous equestrian statue of Peter the Great (unveiled in 1782).
But let's speak about Mariehamn, that was named after the Russian Empress Maria Alexandrovna (1824-1880), wife of Tsar Alexander II. It is her portrait, dating from 1857 (Hermitage Museum), by German painter Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873) that is reproduced on the oval stamp of this joint souvenir sheet.

Ce timbre, représentant une jacinthe blanche dont la floraison intervient souvent pendant la période de Noël, est le premier conçu par la photographe suédoise Helene Schmitz (née en 1960) pour la poste d'Aland. Ce timbre est splendide et il est fort à parier que d'autres timbres suivront !
Helene Schmitz est célèbre en particulier pour ses photographies de gros plans de fleurs.
A noter également le timbre à date Premier Jour (fleur de jacinthe) sur cette carte.
La mention permanente "Julpost" ("poste de Noël") sur ce timbre, 0,60€ actuellement, indique qu'il est valable pour l'envoi d'une lettre de voeux vers Aland, la Suède et la Finlande pendant une période limitée en novembre et décembre.
This stamp, depicting a white hyacinth flower often blossoming during the Christmas period, is the first one designed by Swedish photographer Helene Schmitz (born 1960) for the Aland's Post. This stamp is really nice and I'm sure that many other stamps will follow !

Un nouveau cycle commence avec cette série qui va se poursuivre en 2012 et 2013.
Ce timbre, avec son sapin décoré dans la neige, est sensé restituer l'atmosphère de Noël dans les villes et les campagnes suisses...

Her Swiss counterpart (Post Offices and Sales), Patrick Salamin, has also signed the souvenir issued by the Swiss Post above.
The same four stamps (1 CHF) are part of the set of three Christmas stamps, issued on November 24, 2011, designed by illustrator Raphael Volery from Zurich.
A new cycle begins with this series that will continue in 2012 and 2013.
This stamp, with a decorated Christmas tree in the snow, is supposed to restore the atmosphere of Christmas in the Swiss town and countryside...

150 ans de Mariehamn à Aland

La poste d'Aland, archipel autonome rattaché à la Finlande, a commémoré le 150ème anniversaire de la fondation de sa capitale, Mariehamn, en émettant, le 21 février 2011, un splendide bloc-feuillet composé d'un timbre (oval) à 1€.
C'est ce bloc qui figure sur l'enveloppe "1er Jour" ci-dessous. A noter que l'oblitération spéciale (émise le 9 juin 2011) est consacrée au 30ème anniversaire de la création du journal Nya Åland ("Nouvelles d'Aland"), publié en suédois, le 2ème quotidien de l'archipel après Ålandstidningen.
La création de la ville de Mariehamn a donc eu lieu en 1861 alors que Aland et la Finlande faisaient partie de l'Empire de Russie depuis le traité de Fredrikshamn en 1809.
The postal administration of Aland, a Finnish autonomous archipelago, has commemorated the 150th anniversary of the founding of the capital, Mariehamn, by issuing, on February 21, 2011, a beautiful souvenir sheet consisting of one (oval) € 1.00 stamp.
It's this sheet that appear on the FDC envelope below. To note that the special cancellation (issued on June 9, 2011) is devoted to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper Nya Åland ("Aland's News"), published in Swedish, the second largest in Aland following Ålandstidningen.
The creation of the city of Mariehamn has thus taken place in 1861 while Åland and Finland were part of the Russian Empire since the Treaty of Fredrikshamn in 1809.

La ville de Mariehamn doit son nom à l'impératrice de Russie Maria Alexandrovna (1824-1880), épouse du tsar Alexandre II.
C'est son portrait, datant de 1857 (Musée de l'Ermitage), par le peintre allemand Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873) qui est reproduit sur le timbre du bloc-feuillet ci-dessus.

The background illustration refers to the original plans of the city, designed by Swedish architect Georg Theodor von Chiewitz (1815-1862), close to the Svibyviken bay, around the village of Övernäs.
The "Övernässtugan" wooden house is the only original house still remaining today in this city of 11,000 inhabitants (only 33 inhabitants in 1861).
To note that this souvenir sheet, printed in France by Cartor Security Printing to 100,000 copies, was also issued in a version including gold embossed parts (sold € 15.00, edition : 4000).
To be complete, this souvenir sheet is (logically) a joint issue with Russia.

Pour la 2ème fois (après 2009), la poste de l'archipel d'Åland a fait appel à l'aquarelliste Anette Gustafsson pour la conception de son timbre EUROPA émis cette année (le 9 mai 2011, journée de l'Europe).
C'est ce timbre qu'on retrouve sur le très joli FDC officiel ci-dessous dont l'illustration a été également conçue par Anette Gustafsson. Merci beaucoup Liisa :-)
Le thème EUROPA de cette année, les forêts ("Skogar" en suédois, langue officielle de cet état libre associé à la Finlande) est omniprésent sur ce FDC, y compris le timbre à date évoquant une pomme de pin.
For the second time (after 2009), the postal administration of the Åland Islands has called upon the watercolorist Anette Gustafsson for the design of its EUROPA stamp issued this year (on May 9, 2011, i.e. the Europe Day).

The EUROPA theme of this year, Forests ("Skogar" in Swedish, the official language of this autonomous region of Finland) is ubiquitous on this FDC, including the postmark featuring a conifer cone.

Ce timbre au tarif permanent "EUROPA" (ça tombe bien !), soit 0,85€ actuellement, a été imprimé en France par Cartor Security Printing (offset 4 couleurs) à 180000 exemplaires.
Il reproduit une aquarelle représentant la lisière d'une forêt, 60% du territoire d'Åland étant recouvert de forêts composées de plus de 40 essences d'arbres différentes, dont une majorité de pins dans les îles du nord, des forêts mixtes sur l'île principale et des espèces à feuilles caduques (des frênes principalement) dans le sud.
Ces forêts sont habitées par près de 700 élans et 15000 chevreuils mais également des écureuils, renards, rongeurs et de nombreuses espèces d'oiseaux (tétras-lyres, geais, rapaces...).
This permanent rate "EUROPA" (perfect timing !) stamp, i.e. € 0.85 at present, was printed in France by Cartor Security Printing (4-colour offset) to 180,000 copies.
It reproduces a watercolor featuring the edge of a forest, 60% of Åland being covered by forests composed of more than 40 varieties of trees, mostly pine in the northern islands, mixed forests on main Åland and deciduous species (mainly ash) in the south.
These forests are inhabited by nearly 700 mooses and 15,000 roe deers but also squirrels, foxes, rodents and many species of birds (black grouse, jays, raptors...).

Le timbre à 0,05€ fait partie d'une série de 2 timbres émis le 2 janvier 2002 consacrée à des reptiles et batraciens, une coronelle lisse (Coronella austriaca) ici.
L'autre timbre (0,20€) fait partie d'une série de 3 timbres, émise le 2 février 2004, consacrée à des prédateurs, une hermine (Mustela erminea) ici.
The stamp above to the right is the single Christmas stamp issued this year (on October 8) by the Åland Post (two stamps were issued in 2009).
This stamp, without any nominal value, is only including the word "Julpost" ("Christmas Mail"), currently € 0.60 (the current domestic rate being € 0.75). So it seems that this kind of stamp allows to send mails during the Christmas periods at a discount price !
This stamp depicts the two "old women" carrying a Christmas tree, some popular characters created in 2003 by the Finnish-Swedish illustrator Inge Löök.
One of these two women is wearing the traditional dress during the festivities of St. Lucia (on December 13), much more popular in Sweden than in Finland...
Roland has completed his postage with two older stamps to reach the priority rate for a shipment to Europe (€ 0.85).
The € 0.05 stamp is part of a series of two stamps issued on January 2, 2002, devoted to reptiles and amphibians, a Smooth Snake (Coronella austriaca) here.
The other stamp (€ 0.20) is part of a set of three stamps, issued on February 2, 2004, devoted to predators, an Ermine (Mustela erminea) here.

Le thème EUROPA de cette année, les livres pour enfants, a encore une fois permis aux administrations postales européennes participantes d'émettre des timbres bien différents !
Deux nouveaux exemples avec les 2 timbres émis par Åland et par l'Autriche :-)

La Poste d'Åland, comme la France ou l'Autriche, a émis un seul timbre, le 19 avril 2010, représentant le Loup de sable ("Sandvargen") et Zackarina, des personnages imaginaires créés par l'écrivaine d'origine suédoise (vivant à Åland depuis 1993) Åsa Lind (née en 1958).
The EUROPA theme of this year, children's books, has once again allowed the participating European postal administrations to issue some very different stamps !

The Åland Post, like France or Austria, has issued a single stamp, on April 19, 2010, featuring the Sand Wolf ("Sandvargen") and Zackarina, two imaginary characters created by Åsa Lind (born 1958), a writer of Swedish descent living in Åland since 1993.

Ce timbre est à valeur permanente à destination des pays européens (uniquement ceux de l'UE ?), d'où la mention EUROPA qui figure juste sous "ÅLAND" (0,85€ actuellement).
Avec le logo EUROPA de PostEurop inscrit discrètement en bas à droite sur ce timbre, on a ainsi deux fois la mention EUROPA sur le même timbre...
Ce timbre, conçu par Kristina Digman, a été émis en feuille de 30 timbres (2 x 15 timbres) incluant différents tabs comme celui ci-dessus avec la mention "Sandvargen".
Cette série de livres pour enfants d'Åsa Lind avec ce Loup de sable pour héros est devenue très populaire et a été traduite en 10 langues (en français ?). Åsa Lind considère ce Loup de sable comme l'ami que tout le monde rêverait d'avoir...
Un très joli timbre en tout cas !
This stamp has a permanent nominal value for European countries (only EU countries ?), hence the mention EUROPA written just under "ÅLAND" (€ 0.85 currently).
With the PostEurop's EUROPA logo discreetly included at the bottom right on this stamp, the mention EUROPA is included twice on the same stamp...

La poste autrichienne a choisi un autre animal sauvage, le renard Fridolin ("Fridolin Fuchs") sur son unique timbre EUROPA émis le 11 juin 2010.
Ce timbre figure sur le pli "1er jour" ci-dessus avec timbre à date de la petite ville d'Hirtenberg (Basse-Autriche) située au sud-ouest de Vienne. Merci beaucoup Edna :-)
Je ne connais pas ce personnage Fridolin mais il semble qu'il soit très souvent en scène dans des livres utilisés par les écoliers germanophones. Ce qui pourrait expliquer pourquoi il est représenté, sur le timbre et l'oblitération, avec des livres ??
Ce timbre a été émis en avant-première lors de la convention HIBRIA consacrée à la philatélie et aux cartes postales qui a eu donc lieu à Hirtenberg du 11 au 13 juin 2010.
The Austrian Post has chosen another wild animal, the fox Fridolin ("Fridolin Fuchs") on its single EUROPA stamp issued on June 11, 2010.
This stamp is included on the FDC above with a cancellation from the small town of Hirtenberg (Lower Austria), located south-west of Vienna. Thank you very much Edna :-)
I don't really know this character Fridolin but it seems that it is often portrayed in books used by german-speaking school children. This could explain why Fridolin has been featured, on both stamp and postmark, with some books ??
This stamp was issued in preview sale during the HIBRIA stamp and postcard convention that took place in Hirtenberg from 11 to 13 June 2010.

L'année 2009 a été une année importante pour l'administration postale d'Åland, cet archipel de 6500 îles situé à l'entrée du golfe de Botnie, entre la Suède et la Finlande, un territoire autonome rattaché à la Finlande.
L'administration postale d'Åland avait en effet obtenu son autonomie postale 25 ans auparavant en 1984 et avait émis son premier timbre le 1er mars de la même année (drapeau alandais).
Des thèmes presque exclusivement alandais (culture, histoire, nature...) sont évoqués sur la vingtaine de timbres émis chaque année.
Ce fut d'ailleurs le cas concernant le bloc-feuillet, émis le 22 janvier 2009 dans le cadre de la campagne philatélique internationale pour la protection des régions polaires et des glaciers, initiée par les postes de Finlande et du Chili.
The year 2009 was an important year for the postal administration of Åland, this archipelago of 6,500 islands located at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia between Sweden and Finland, a Finnish autonomous territory.
The postal administration of Åland had indeed obtained its postal autonomy 25 years earlier in 1984 and had issued its first stamp on March 1st of the same year (Åland's flag).
Some almost exclusively Åland's themes (culture, history, nature...) are featured on the about twenty stamps issued each year.
This was also the case concerning the souvenir sheet, issued on January 22, 2009 as part of the international stamp campaign for the Protection of the Polar Regions and Glaciers, initiated by the Posts of Finland and Chile.

La poste d'Åland a en effet choisi de traiter ce thème du réchauffement climatique global de façon locale en célébrant le 100ème anniversaire de l'introduction de l'électricité à Åland. Une éolienne est ainsi représentée (imprimée en relief) sur le timbre rappelant ainsi que près de 25% de l'électricité de l'archipel est issue de l'énergie du vent grâce à 22 éoliennes installées sur tout le territoire !
J'aime beaucoup l'originalité de ce bloc-feuillet imprimé en offset (quadrichromie) et technologie Metal FX par le canadien Lowe-Martin Group.
La poste alandaise fait régulièrement appel à d'autres compagnies internationales pour l'impression de ses timbres : Southern Colour Print (Nouvelle-Zélande), Posten Sverige (Suède), Cartor Security Printing (France) et Royal Joh. Enschedé (Pays-Bas) ont aussi été sollicitées pour le programme philatélique 2009 !

The Åland Post has chosen to evoke this topic of global warming in a local way by celebrating the 100th anniversary of the introduction of electricity in Åland. A wind turbine is thus pictured (embossed) on the stamp reminding us that nearly 25% of electricity in this archipelago comes from wind energy with 22 wind turbines installed throughout the territory !
I really like the originality of this souvenir sheet printed in 4-color offset with a Metal FX technology by the Canadian Lowe-Martin Group.
The Åland Post regularly calls upon other international companies for printing its stamps : Southern Colour Print (New Zealand), Posten Sverige (Sweden), Cartor Security Printing (France) and Royal Joh. Enschedé (Netherlands) have also been approached for the 2009 stamp program !
