"Lavender" and "Catalan sheepdog" stamps on FDC from Andorra (French Post)

Timbres "lavande" et "berger catalan" sur FDC d'Andorre (Poste française)

A l'occasion du 70ème Salon Philatélique d'Automne, organisé du 3 au 6 novembre 2016 à Paris, la poste française en Principauté d'Andorre a mis en circulation 2 nouveaux timbres de sa série "faune et flore", consacrés respectivement à une race de chien, le berger catalan et à une plante caractéristique du bassin méditerranéen, la lavande.
La vente Premier Jour avait lieu le 4 novembre 2016 avec des TAD spécifiques, conçus par André Lavergne qui a également créé et gravé ces 2 timbres (mise en page : Stéphanie Ghinéa).
On the occasion of the 70th "Salon Philatélique d'Automne", organized from 3 to 6 November 2016 in Paris, the French Post in the Principality of Andorra has released two new stamps from its "fauna and flora" series devoted respectively to a breed of dog, the Catalan sheepdog and a plant characteristic of the Mediterranean basin, lavender.
The First Day of Issue took place on November 4, 2016 with some specific postmarks, designed by André Lavergne who also created and engraved these two stamps (layout : Stéphanie Ghinéa).

Ces 2 timbres, avec leurs TADs Premier Jour respectifs, figurent sur le pli ci-dessus, avec la signature d'André Lavergne au centre !
Le timbre à gauche (0,80€, tirage : 60000) représente des fleurs de lavande ("espígol" en catalan) en gros plan, une plante caractérisée par son odeur, ses nombreuses propriétés médicinales ou son utilisation en parfumerie.
L'autre timbre (1,00€, tirage : 50000) est consacré à une race de chien originaire des Pyrénées catalanes, le berger catalan ("Gos d'Atura Català" en catalan), utilisé principalement pour la conduite de troupeaux (il est représenté sur ce timbre avec des moutons).
These 2 stamps, with their respective FDC cancellations, are included on the letter above, with the signature of André Lavergne between them !
The stamp on the left (€ 0.80, print run : 60,000) represents a close-up view of lavender flowers ("espígol" in Catalan), a plant characterized by its smelling, its numerous medicinal properties or its use in perfumery.
The other stamp (€ 1.00, print run : 50,000) is devoted to a breed of dog originating from the Catalan Pyrenees, the Catalan sheepdog ("Gos d'Atura Català" in Catalan), used mainly for herd management (it is featured on that stamp with sheeps).

Bloc-feuillet "Danse folklorique et paysage 2016" sur lettre d'Andorre

La poste française en Andorre a débuté en 2011 une intéressante série intitulée "Danse folklorique et paysage" ("Dansa folklòrica i paisatge" en catalan) sous forme de bloc-feuillet.
Après des danses traditionnelles des paroisses d'Andorre-la-Vieille, Sant Julià de Lòria, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany et Ordino, le bloc-feuillet émis cette année (le 15 juillet 2016) est consacrée à la paroisse de Canillo et à la sardane, célèbre danse traditionnelle catalane.
Le prochain et dernier bloc-feuillet émis en 2017 devrait être consacré à la paroisse de La Massana...

The French Post in Andorra began in 2011 an interesting series entitled "Folk Dance and landscape" ("Dansa folklòrica i paisatge" in Catalan) as a miniature sheet.
After some traditional dances from the parishes of Andorra la Vella, Sant Julia de Loria, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany and Ordino, the miniature sheet issued this year (on July 15, 2016) is devoted to the parish of Canillo and the sardana, famous traditional Catalan dance.
The next and final miniature sheet issued in 2017 should be dedicated to the parish of La Massana...

Comme en 2015, ce bloc-feuillet (tirage : 50000) a été conçu par Sophie Beaujard et le timbre (1,60€) partiellement gravé par Sarah Bougault.
Canillo (nord-est de la principauté, 5000 habitants environ) est l'une des plus hautes et plus grandes des 7 paroisses d'Andorre, avec Canillo comme ville principale (2000 habitants).
L'église Sant Serni de Canillo, représentée dans la marge de ce bloc à droite, est située au cœur de la vieille ville de Canillo. La plupart du bâtiment actuel date de l'époque baroque (17ème et 18ème siècle), avec des vestiges encore visibles de l'ancienne construction romane du 12ème siècle.
Son clocher (27 mètres de haut) est un des plus hauts des vallées d'Andorre.
Un groupe folklorique de danse sardane (danseurs en cercle se tenant par la main, accompagnés par la musique d'un ensemble instrumental appelé "cobla") est représenté sur ce timbre, à l'honneur en particulier lors de La Festa Major qui a lieu chaque année à Canillo, le 3ème dimanche de juillet.
As in 2015, this miniature sheet (print run : 50,000) was designed by Sophie Beaujard and the stamp (€ 1.60) partially engraved by Sarah Bougault.
Canillo (northeast of the principality, about 5000 inhabitants) is one of the highest and largest of the seven parishes of Andorra, with Canillo as main town (2000 inhabitants).
The Church of Sant Serni de Canillo, featured in the margin of this sheet on the right, is located in the heart of the old town of Canillo. Most of the current building dates from the Baroque period (17th and 18th century), with visible remains of the old Romanesque building dating from the 12th century.
Its bell tower (27 meters high) is one of the highest in the valleys of Andorra.
A folk group of Sardana dance (dancers in circle holding hands, accompanied by the music of an instrumental ensemble called "cobla") is depicted on the stamp, in the spotlight in particular during the Festa Major taking place in Canillo each year, the third Sunday of July.

Le 28 novembre 2002, la poste espagnole en principauté d'Andorre avait mis en circulation une très jolie série de 3 timbres consacrée au patrimoine artistique et en particulier aux fresques murales de l'église Santa Coloma.
Ces 3 timbres se-tenant (tirage : 300000 chacun) figurent sur la jolie lettre ci-dessous envoyée le 26 juillet 2016 d'Andorre-la-Vieille. Merci beaucoup Josep !
Cette église romane Santa Coloma fait partie du riche patrimoine religieux roman en Andorre, caractérisée par son clocher en pierre de section circulaire, unique en principauté. Sa construction daterait du début du 10ème siècle, comprenant une nef rectangulaire couverte d'une charpente en bois et une abside carrée. Le clocher lombard à 4 niveaux fut ajouté au 12ème siècle et le porche au 17ème siècle.
On November 28, 2002, the Spanish Post in the Principality of Andorra had issued a very nice set of three stamps dedicated to artistic heritage and especially the murals of the church of Santa Coloma.
These three se-tenant stamps (print run : 300,000 each) have been used on the nice letter below sent on July 26, 2016 from Andorra la Vella. Thank you very much Josep !
This Church of Santa Coloma is part of the rich religious Romanesque heritage in Andorra, characterized by its stone bell tower with a circular section, unique in the Principality.
Its construction dates from the early 10th century, with a rectangular nave covered with a wood frame and a square apse. The Lombard bell tower with 4 levels was added in the 12th century and the porch in the 17th century.

Cet édifice est connu pour sa sculpture en bois polychrome de Notre Dame du Remei (12ème et 13ème siècle) ou son retable baroque (18ème siècle) mais surtout pour ses splendides peintures murales datant du 12ème siècle, dont certaines sont reproduites sur ces 3 timbres.
A noter que, à l'exception de l'Agnus Dei flanqué de deux anges (0,25€), ces fresques quittèrent le pays en 1933 pour Berlin et furent récupérées par le gouvernement andorran en 2007.
A noter que cet Agnus Dei a également été représenté sur un timbre émis par la poste française en Andorre en 2002, idem pour cet ange (0,50€ ci-dessus) reproduit sur un timbre en 1990.
This building is known for its polychrome wooden sculpture of Our Lady of Remedies (12th and 13th century) and its baroque altarpiece (18th century) but especially for its beautiful mural paintings dating from the 12th century, some of which being reproduced on these three stamps.
To note that, with the exception of the Agnus Dei flanked by two angels (€ 0.25), these frescoes left the country in 1933 to Berlin and were recovered by the Andorran government in 2007.
It's worth noting that this Agnus Dei was also featured on a stamp issued by the French Post in Andorra in 2002, the same for this angel (€ 0.50 above) reproduced on a stamp issued in 1990.

Timbre EUROPA 2016 (Poste française) sur FDC d'Andorre

J'avais déjà évoqué sur ce blog le timbre EUROPA (1,15€, tirage : 80000) émis cette année (le 22 avril 2016) par la poste espagnole en principauté d'Andorre.
Près d'un mois plus tard (le 20 mai), le timbre EUROPA de la poste française en Andorre a été mis en circulation en principauté et dans le cadre du salon philatélique "Paris-Philex".
C'est ce timbre (1€, tirage : 50000) qui figure sur ce FDC, avec TAD (visage et feuille) conçu par Joan Xandri.
I had already written on this blog about the EUROPA stamp (€ 1.15, print run : 80,000) issued this year (on April 22, 2016) by the Spanish Post in the Principality of Andorra.
Nearly a month later (on May 20), the EUROPA stamp of the French Post in Andorra was put into circulation in the Principality and during the philatelic exhibition "Paris-Philex".
It is that stamp (€ 1.00, print run : 50,000) which appears on this FDC, with a cancellation (human face and leaf) designed by Joan Xandri.

Pour rappel, un dessin commun (auteur : Doxia Sergidou / poste chypriote) a été choisi par PostEurop pour être reproduit sur les timbres EUROPA émis cette année, dans le cadre des célébrations du 60ème anniversaire de l'émission des premiers timbres CEPT-EUROPA.
Le thème choisi est consacré à l'écologie en Europe à travers le slogan "Think Green" ("Pensar en verd" en catalan, comme mentionné sur ce timbre).
As a reminder, a joint design (author : Doxia Sergidou / Cyprus Post) was chosen by PostEurop to be reproduced on the EUROPA stamps issued this year, as part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the issue of the first CEPT-EUROPA stamps.
This year's theme is devoted to Ecology in Europe through the slogan "Think Green" ("Pensar en verd" in Catalan, as mentioned on that stamp).

Des oeuvres du sculpteur catalan Josep Viladomat i Massanas (1899-1989) ont déjà été reproduites sur plusieurs timbres d'Andorre dans le passé, en particulier en 1966 (100 ans de la Nouvelle Réforme) et 2002 (Nu sedent) sur des timbres émis par la poste française en principauté.
Josep Viladomat, venu s'installer en Andorre après la guerre civile espagnole, fait en effet partie des artistes ayant marqué le monde de la culture en principauté au 20ème siècle, en particulier à Escaldes-Engordany.
Le 6 mai 2016, un nouveau timbre (0,80€, tirage : 60000, conçu et gravé par Pierre Bara) a été mis en circulation, consacré à ce même sculpteur à travers le Centre d'Art d'Escaldes-Engordany (CAEE), représenté à droite.

Artworks made by Catalan sculptor Josep Viladomat i Massanas (1899-1989) have already been reproduced on several Andorran stamps in the past, particularly in 1966 (100 years of the New Reform) and 2002 (Nu sedent) on stamps issued by the French Post in the Principality.
Josep Viladomat, who settled in Andorra after the Spanish Civil War, is indeed one of the artists having marked the world of culture in the Principality in the 20th century, especially in the town of Escaldes-Engordany.
On May 6, 2016, a new stamp (€ 0.80, print run : 60,000, designed and engraved by Pierre Bara) was put into circulation, dedicated to the same sculptor through the Escaldes-Engordany Art Center (CAEE), featured on the right.

Ce Centre d'Art d'Escaldes-Engordany, situé dans une maison typique en granit construite entre 1932 et 1934 (architecte : Celestí Gusí) pour des moines, est un espace culturel abritant une collection de maquettes d'art roman d'Andorre mais surtout une cinquantaine d'oeuvres de Josep Viladomat, dont la sculpture en plâtre représentée à gauche sur ce timbre.
Cette statue est un prototype de "La República", une oeuvre en bronze (4,5 mètres de haut) faisant partie du monument "La República (Homenaje a Pi i Margall)" érigé en 1934 au centre de la Plaza de la República à Barcelone.
Josep Viladomat a réalisé de nombreuses oeuvres réalistes de ce type, des nus féminins inspirés par des sculpteurs grecs ou le sculpteur français Aristide Maillol.
This Escaldes-Engordany Art Center, located in a typical granite house built between 1932 and 1934 (architect : Celestí Gusi) for monks, is a cultural space housing a collection of Romanesque art models of Andorra but but above all fifty works of Josep Viladomat, including the plaster sculpture depicted at the left on that stamp.
This statue is a prototype of "La República", a work in bronze (4.5 meters high) being part of the monument "La República (Homenaje a Pi i Margall)" erected in 1934 in the center of the Plaza de la República in Barcelona.
Josep Viladomat was the author of many realistic works of this type, female nudes inspired by Greek sculptors or French sculptor Aristide Maillol.

Assemblée Générale 2016 de Philandorre - TAD spécial d'Ordino

Après Castelnaudary (France) en 2015, l'assemblée générale de l'association philatélique Philandorre était organisée cette année en Principauté d'Andorre, dans la paroisse d'Ordino précisément (nord-ouest du pays).
Pour rappel, Philandorre est une association ayant pour but (depuis 1977) la promotion et le développement de la philatélie andorrane, en particulier en publiant des études philatéliques et postales.
A l'occasion de cette assemblée générale, un TAD spécial a été mis en circulation à Ordino (AD300) le 6 mai 2016, incluant un portrait de Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit.

Pour rappel, Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit était un célèbre photographe et philatéliste andorran, précurseur de la maximaphilie et initiateur de plusieurs associations philatéliques spécialisées en Principauté.
Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit est descendant d'une des rares familles nobles de la principauté d'Andorre et la maison familiale, située à Ordino, est aujourd'hui un des musées emblématiques du pays, étant le seul exemple de maison seigneuriale parvenue intact.

I do not know exactly what this inkprint "Ordino 09-034", applied on this envelope, means ?
As a reminder, Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit was a famous photographer and philatelist from Andorra, Maximaphily's precursor and initiator of several specialized philatelic associations in the Principality. 
Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit was a descendant of one of the few noble families of the Principality of Andorra and family's house, located in Ordino, is today one of the emblematic museums of the country, being the only example of a stately home in Andorra that has reached our days intact.

Dans le cadre du Salon philatélique d'Automne organisé à Paris du 5 au 8 novembre 2015, la poste française en Andorre a mis en circulation, le 7 novembre 2015, un timbre spécial (1,25€, tirage : 50000) commémorant le 100ème anniversaire de la naissance de Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit (1915-1996), philatéliste andorran célèbre, précurseur de la maximaphilie et initiateur de plusieurs associations philatéliques spécialisées en principauté.
C'est ce timbre, dessiné et gravé par Pierre Bara (mise en page : Stéphanie Ghinéa) qui figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessous, avec un TAD incluant le portrait et la signature de Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit.
A noter qu'un 2ème TAD, différent, était également disponible à Paris, faisant référence à ce Salon Philatélique d'Automne et reproduisant une des 2 cartes-maximum à droite sur ce timbre.
As part of the last "Salon philatélique d'Automne" held in Paris from November 5 to 8, 2015, the French Post in Andorra has put into circulation, on November 7, 2015, a special stamp (€ 1.25, print run : 50 000) commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit (1915-1996), famous Andorran philatelist, maximaphily's precursor and initiator of several specialized philatelic associations in the Principality.

Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit, précurseur également de la photographie dans le pays, fut l'initiateur de la maximaphilie andorrane, lui-même éditeur de nombreuses cartes-maximum, comme celles figurant sur ce timbre, évoquant la chapelle dédiée à la patronne d'Andorre, Notre-Dame de Meritxell, (détruite en 1972 par un incendie) et le pont médiéval de Sant Antoni de la Grella.
Ces 2 cartes, avec TAD de 1933 et 1939 respectivement, comportent des timbres (avec mention "Vallées d'Andorre") faisant partie des premières séries courantes en Andorre (émises en 1932 et 1937) sur les mêmes thèmes.
Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit is a descendant of one of the few noble families of the Principality of Andorra, with an important social position in particular due to Guillem d'Areny-Plandolit (1822-1876), a famous political (he was president of the General Council) and economic (metallurgical industry) figure of Andorran history.
Ramon d'Areny-Plandolit, also precursor of photography in the country, was the initiator of the Andorran maximaphily, himself editor of many maxicards, such as the two ones on that stamp, referring to the chapel dedicated to the patron saint of Andorra, Our Lady of Meritxell, (destroyed by fire in 1972) and to the medieval bridge of Sant Antoni de la Grella.
These two cards, with postmarks from 1933 and 1939 respectively, include stamps (with "Valleys of Andorra" in French mentions) being part of the first definitive series in Andorra (issued in 1932 and 1937) on the same themes.

Dans le cadre des émissions EUROPA 2015, dont le thème est consacré aux jouets anciens, la poste française en Andorre a mis en circulation, le 7 mai 2015, un curieux timbre représentant un lance-pierre ("tirador" en catalan)...
Ce timbre montre un lance-pierre rustique, constitué d'une fourche en bois, aux extrémités de laquelle est fixé un morceau de cuir à l'aide de 2 élastiques.
Ce type d'objet permet d'envoyer différents types de projectiles, principalement des cailloux ou des billes, et est aujourd'hui considéré comme une arme (comme la fronde) avec un usage réglementé...
As part of the EUROPA 2015 issues, whose theme is devoted to old toys, the French Post in Andorra has put into circulation, on May 7, 2015, a curious stamp featuring a slingshot ("tirador" in Catalan)...
That stamp features a rustic slingshot, made up of a wooden fork, the ends of which is attached a piece of leather with two elastic.
This type of object allows to send different types of projectiles, mainly pebbles or marbles, and is now considered as a weapon (such as a sling) with regulated use...

Ce timbre rappelle sans doute que ce type d'objet était considéré comme un jouet traditionnel par plusieurs générations d'enfants, principalement dans la 1ère moitié du 20ème siècle.
Un jouet qui permettait toutefois de chasser des oiseaux par exemple... Je trouve vraiment ce choix de "jouet" très discutable...
C'est ce timbre (0,95€, tirage : 60000), conçu par Enric Cardus (mise en page : Stéphanie Ghinéa), qui a été utilisé pour affranchir la lettre ci-dessus, envoyée le 12 septembre 2015 de la paroisse de La Massana, située dans l'ouest de la principauté. Merci beaucoup Olivier :-)
That stamp probably reminds that this type of object was considered as a traditional toy for several generations of children, mainly in the first half of the 20th century.
A toy that however allowed to hunt birds for example... I really find this choice of "toy" very questionable...

Virgin of Meritxell and EUROPA 2015 stamp on cover from Andorra

Le timbre à gauche (0,90€, tirage : 90000), émis le 23 avril 2015, est le timbre EUROPA émis cette année par la poste espagnole en Andorre, dont le thème est consacré aux jouets anciens.
Une toupie ("baldufa" en catalan) est représentée sur ce timbre, constituée d'un corps en métal et d'un système de lancement à l'aide d'un fil, faisant partie des collections du musée du jouet de Catalogne à Figueres.

The stamp ont the left (€ 0.90, print run : 90,000), issued on April 23, 2015, is the EUROPA stamp issued this year by the Spanish Post in Andorra, whose theme is devoted to old toys.
A spinning top ("Baldufa" in Catalan) is depicted on that stamp, consisting of a metal body and a launch system using a wire, being part of the collections of the Toy Museum of Catalonia in Figueres.
Spinning top is a universal and very old toy (this kind of toy was found during archaeological excavations in Egypt or Mesopotamia).

L'autre timbre à droite (tarif permanent "A", soit 0,42€ actuellement), émis le 13 janvier 2015, est consacré à l'art roman ("El Romànic") en Andorre, en particulier à la statue de la Vierge de Meritxell, Sainte Patronne de la principauté.
La principauté d'Andorre est en effet caractérisée par un riche patrimoine roman, avec une quarantaine d'églises ou de chapelles préromanes ou romanes remarquables (datant du 11ème et 12ème siècle).
Huit de ces églises ou ensembles romans figurent d'ailleurs sur une liste indicative proposée par la principauté d'Andorre pour être inscrits au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
Les postes française et espagnole en Andorre ont déjà émis de nombreux timbres dans le passé consacrés à l'art roman et en particulier un splendide bloc-feuillet commun en 2010.
La statue originale en bois de cette Vierge de Meritxell, datant du 12ème siècle, a été détruite lors de l'incendie du sanctuaire de Meritxell en 1972.
Cette statue a également été timbrifiée à plusieurs reprises, en particulier en 1995 ou 2007 par la poste française en Andorre...
The other stamp on the right (permanent rate "A", currently € 0.42), issued on January 13, 2015, is dedicated to Romanesque art ("El Romànic") in Andorra, to the statue of the Virgin of Meritxell, patron saint of the Principality in particular.
Andorra is indeed characterized by a rich Romanesque heritage, with about forty remarkable pre-Romanesque or Romanesque churches and chapels (dating from the 11th and 12th century).
Eight of these churches are included on an indicative list proposed by the Principality of Andorra to be listed as World Heritage site by UNESCO.
The French and Spanish Posts in Andorra have already issued many stamps in the past devoted to Romanesque Art and especially a beautiful joint souvenir sheet in 2010.
The original wooden statue of this Virgin of Meritxell, dating from the 12th century, was destroyed during the burning of Meritxell sanctuary in 1972.
This statue was also already featured on stamps several times, for example in 1995 and 2007 by the French Post in Andorra...

Le temps d'un week-end, la ville de Castelnaudary (Aude) a été en quelque sorte la capitale de l'Andorre puisque l'assemblée générale de l'association philatélique Philandorre y était organisée.
Pour rappel, Philandorre est une association ayant pour but (depuis 1977) la promotion et le développement de la philatélie andorrane, en particulier en publiant des études philatéliques et postales.
A l'occasion de cette assemblée générale, un TAD spécial a été émis le 14 mai 2015, illustré semble-t-il par le canal du Midi (patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO) et en particulier le Grand Bassin.
During a weekend, the town of Castelnaudary (Aude) was a kind of capital of Andorra since the General Assembly of the Philatelic Association Philandorre was organized there.
As a reminder, Philandorre is an association founded in 1977 to promote and develop the philately of Andorra, in particular by publishing philatelic and postal studies. 
On the occasion of this General Assembly, a special postmark was issued on May 14, 2015, illustrated apparently with the Canal du Midi (a UNESCO world heritage site) and in particular the Grand Bassin.

La prochaine assemblée générale de Philandorre devrait être organisée en Principauté en 2016, à Ordino.

This logo depicts the church of Sant Joan de Caselles, one of the finest examples of the unique Roman heritage in Andorra, with also some squares with the colors of the Andorran flag.
The next Philandorre General Assembly should be organized in 2016 in the Principality of Andorra, in Ordino.

Dans le cadre du dernier Salon Philatélique de Printemps organisé du 19 au 21 mars 2015 à Paris, la poste française en Andorre a mis en circulation un nouveau timbre faisant partie d'une série (débutée en 2006 avec une Ford T) consacrée à des véhicules de collection du musée national de l'automobile d'Encamp.
Ce nouveau timbre (1,20€, tirage : 50000), conçu par Francesc Ribo, représente un modèle DS 21 de la marque automobile française Citroën.
At the occasion of the last "Salon Philatélique de Printemps" held from 19 to 21 March 2015 in Paris, the French Post in Andorra has released a new stamp being part of a series (started in 2006 with a "Ford T" vehicle) dedicated to old vehicles from the collection of the National Automobile Museum in Encamp.
This new stamp (€ 1.20, print run : 50,000), designed by Francesc Ribo, depicts a model DS 21 of the French car manufacturer Citroën.

Citroën a produit, entre 1955 et 1975, environ 1,5 millions de voitures de type DS, un véhicule révolutionnaire à l'époque : ligne audacieuse, confort intérieur remarquable grâce à sa suspension hydropneumatique, direction assistée...
Le modèle DS21 représenté sur ce timbre, qui a remplacé la DS 19A, a été présentée au public lors du salon de l'automobile de Paris en 1968. Elle sera elle-même remplacée par la DS 23 à partir de 1973.

The DS 21 model shown on the stamp, which replaced the DS 19A, was presented to the public during the car show in Paris in 1968. It was itself replaced by the DS 23 from 1973.

Dans le cadre du dernier Salon Philatélique d'Automne à Paris, le bureau de la poste française en Andorre a émis, le 8 novembre 2014, un nouveau timbre consacré au 100ème anniversaire de la naissance d'Esteve Albert (1914-1995).
Esteve Albert était un poète, historien, dramaturge et promoteur culturel andorran d'origine espagnole, défenseur de la langue et de l'autonomie catalane.
Il a en effet très tôt joué un rôle dans différentes organisations nationalistes ("Nosaltres Sols!" ou "Estat Català") et a participé à l'âge de 20 ans aux évènements du 6 octobre 1934, un mouvement insurrectionnel du gouvernement autonome catalan visant à la création d'un état catalan (dirigé par Lluís Companys) au sein d'une république fédérale espagnole.
As part of last "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" in Paris, the French post office in Andorra issued, on November 8, 2014, a new stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Esteve Albert (1914-1995).
Esteve Albert was an Andorran poet, historian, playwright and cultural promoter of Spanish origin, defender of the Catalan language and autonomy.
He has indeed played a role early in various nationalist organizations ("Nosaltres Sols!" or "Estat Català") and participated at the age of only 20 to the events of October 6, 1934, an insurrectional movement of the Catalan autonomous government that led to the creation of a Catalan State (led by Lluís Companys) in a Spanish federal republic.

Même si ce mouvement fut voué à l'échec, Esteve Albert travailla ensuite avec Lluís Companys pendant la guerre civile espagnole puis a continué son activisme militant au sein du Front National de Catalunya.
Il s'installe en Andorre à partir de 1956 et se consacre à la promotion de spectacles de théâtre populaire comme Pessebre Vivent d'Engordany, Retaule de Sant Armengol ou Bandera de Catalunya.
Parmi ses oeuvres les plus connues, l'essai historico-patriotique "Missió i destí de Catalunya i Occitània".
En 1990, il a reçu la Creu de Sant Jordi de la Generalitat de Catalogne.

Un mois plus tôt, le 23 avril 2014, la poste espagnole en Andorre a choisi un accordéon diatonique (Acordió diatònic) pour son timbre EUROPA (0,76€, tirage : 90000).
C'est ce timbre qui figure à droite sur cette intéressante lettre ci-dessous postée d'Andorre-la-Vieille le 11 août 2014. Merci beaucoup Josep :-)
L'accordéon diatonique est un instrument de musique à clavier fonctionnant par l'actionnement d'un soufflet, via un système bi-sonore (système uni-sonore concernant l'accordéon chromatique classique).
The French Post in Andorra had chosen to depict a type of bagpipe (the Buna) on its EUROPA stamp issued on May 23, 2014.
A month earlier, on April 23, 2014, Correos Andorra chose a diatonic button accordion (Acordió diatònic) for its EUROPA stamp (€ 0.76, print run : 90.000).

The diatonic accordion is a musical keyboard instrument operated by actuating bellows, via a bi-sound system (an uni-sound system for the classic chromatic accordion).

Cet instrument est très populaire en principauté d'Andorre ainsi qu'en Catalogne voisine où un festival d'accordéonistes des Pyrénées ("Trobada d'Acordionistes del Pirineu") est organisé chaque année.
La 39ème édition (65 musiciens et 22 groupes venant de 16 pays) a eu lieu du 26 juillet au 2 août 2014, en particulier dans la ville catalane voisine de La Seu d'Urgell, siège du diocèse d'Urgell dont l'évêque est un des co-princes d'Andorre.
L'autre timbre ci-dessus (0,38€) a été émis le 13 janvier 2014 à l'occasion du 14ème congrès international de la viabilité hivernale organisé dans le centre des congrès d'Andorre la Vieille du 4 au 7 février 2014.
Ce congrès, organisé par l'association mondiale de la route, avait pour but de présenter les dernières innovations en matière de déneigement, d'équipement, de déverglaçage ainsi que les expériences de terrain de plus de 40 pays concernés par la viabilité hivernale.
Prochain congrès organisé en 2018 à Gdansk en Pologne.
This instrument is very popular in Andorra and in neighboring Catalonia where a Pyrenees Accordionist Festival ("Trobada d'Acordionistes del Pirineu") is held annually.
The 39th edition (65 musicians and 22 groups from 16 countries) took place from July 26 to August 2, 2014, in particular in the nearby Catalan town of La Seu d'Urgell, head of the Diocese of Urgell whose bishop is one of the two co-princes of Andorra.
The other stamp above (€ 0.38) was issued on January 13, 2014 at the occasion of the 14th International Winter Road Congress held in the convention center of Andorra la Vella from 4 to 7 February 2014.
This Congress, organized by the World Road Association, had for purpose to present the latest innovations in snow removal equipment, de-icing as well as field experience from over 40 countries involved in road winter operations.
Next congress held in 2018 in Gdansk, Poland.

Après 3 places situées dans la capitale, Andorre-la-Vieille, en 2011, 2012 et 2013, c'est cette fois la place d'Engordany, située dans la paroisse d'Escaldes-Engordany (sud-est de la Principauté), qui a été choisie pour figurer sur ce timbre.
C'est ce timbre (0,66€, tirage : 60000) qui figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessous avec le TAD émis normalement en Principauté.
Ce pli a pourtant été posté sans problème depuis le dernier Salon "Planète Timbres" à Paris, sans transiter par la principauté d'Andorre...

Ce TAD semble représenter une plaque de rue mentionnant cette place d'Engordany.
Eve Luquet, qui a dessiné et gravé ce timbre (à partir d'une photographie du ministère andorran de la culture), était présente à ce salon parisien le 16 juin 2014 et a eu la gentillesse de signer cette lettre ci-dessus !
Cette place d'Engordany était autrefois la place d'un petit village mais la forte croissance économique du pays a eu pour conséquence d'unir 2 villages, pour constituer en 1978 la nouvelle et dernière paroisse d'Escaldes-Engordany.
Cette charmante place, qui a été transformée de manière très significative au fil des siècles, n'a conservé que quelques bâtiments traditionnels qui cohabitent aujourd'hui avec des bâtiments datant du milieu du 20ème siècle.
This postmark seems to feature a street sign indicating this Engordany square.
Eve Luquet, who designed and engraved that stamp (from a photograph of the Andorran Ministry of Culture), was present at this Paris exhibition on June 16, 2014 and was kind enough to sign this letter above ! 
This Engordany square was the square of a small village in the past but the important economic growth has resulted in the union of two villages, to form in 1978 the new and last Parish of Escaldes-Engordany.
This charming square, which has been transformed very significantly over the centuries, has preserved some traditional buildings that coexist today with other ones dating from the mid 20th century.

Le 23 mai 2014, la poste française en Andorre a émis son timbre EUROPA dont le thème cette année est consacré aux instruments de musique nationaux.
La conceptrice de ce timbre, Helena Guàrdia Ribo, a choisi de représenter une buna, un instrument apparenté à la cornemuse ayant la particularité d'être constitué de 3 bourdons orientés vers le bas.
C'est ce timbre (0,83€, tirage : 50000), avec son coin daté du 7 avril 2014, qui figure sur ce pli spécial ci-dessous envoyé depuis le dernier Salon "Planète Timbres" organisé à Paris du 14 au 22 juin 2014.
A noter le TAD temporaire du bureau français lors de ce Salon, avec une plume et la mention Phil@poste.
On May 23, 2014, the French Post in Andorra issued its EUROPA stamp whose theme this year is devoted to national musical instruments.
The designer of that stamp, Helena Guàrdia Ribo, chose to feature a buna, a type of bagpipe instrument having the particularity of being composed of three drones facing down.
It is that stamp (€ 0.83, print run : 50000), with its dated corner of April 7, 2014, that was used on this special cover below sent from the last Stamp exhibition "Planète Timbres" held in Paris from 14 to 22 June 2014.

Helena Guàrdia Ribo a choisi de représenter cet instrument à cette époque en s'inspirant (pour le fond) de la technique picturale et des motifs ornementaux des peintures romanes andorranes.
La buna est au coeur d'une des légendes les plus connues d'Andorre, El buner d'Ordino (le sonneur d'Ordino), relatant l'histoire de ce musicien attaqué par des loups, qui se réfugia en haut d'un pin. Il réussit à mettre en fuite ces loups en jouant de son instrument toute la nuit...
Un timbre consacré à cette légende avait été émis en Principauté en 2002.

This bagpipe, unique in this region of the Pyrenees, would have arrived in Andorra after an appearance in Catalonia at the Romanesque period.
Helena Guàrdia Ribo has chosen to feature this instrument at that time drawing her inspiration (for background) from pictorial art and ornamental motifs of Andorran Romanesque paintings.
The buna is at the heart of one of the most famous legends of Andorra, El buner d'Ordino, telling the story of this musician attacked by wolves, who took refuge on top of a pine. He managed to stampede the wolves by playing his instrument all the night...
A stamp devoted to this legend was issued in the Principality in 2002.

Le 16 juin 2014, la poste française en Andorre a émis un nouveau timbre consacré au 10ème anniversaire de l'inscription de la vallée du Madriu-Perafita-Claror au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
De façon plutôt inhabituelle, ce timbre (0,98€, tirage : 50000) a été émis en feuillet de 10 timbre avec une marge supérieure mentionnant cet anniversaire.
C'est ce haut de feuille (avec 2 timbres) qui figure sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessous avec le TAD émis normalement en principauté.
Ce pli a pourtant été posté sans problème depuis le dernier Salon "Planète Timbres" à Paris, sans transiter par la principauté d'Andorre...
Ce TAD montre une représentation topographique de ces 2 vallées (Madriu et Perafita-Claror) ainsi que la frontière avec l'Espagne dans le sud-est du pays.

A rather unusual way, that stamp (€ 0.98, print run : 50,000) was issued in a sheetlet of 10 stamps with a top margin mentioning this anniversary.
It is that top sheet (with 2 stamps) that was used on the first day cover below with the postmark normally issued in the Principality.
This cover has however been sent without any problem from the last "Planète Timbres" stamp exhibition in Paris, without passing through the Principality of Andorra...
This postmark shows a topographic representation of these two valleys (Madriu and Perafita-Claror) and the Spanish border in the south-east of the country.

Cette vallée du Madriu-Perafita-Claror, située dans la paroisse de Escaldes-Engordany, est le seul site d'Andorre a être classé au patrimoine mondial de l'humanité de l'UNESCO (depuis 2004).
D'après l'UNESCO, "le paysage culturel de la vallée du Madriu-Perafita-Claror est un microcosme qui témoigne du génie déployé par les populations des Pyrénées au cours du millénaire pour exploiter les ressources locales".
Cette vallée occupe environ 10% du territoire national (70 % de toutes les espèces d'oiseaux en Andorre y ont été répertoriées). Elle est composée de magnifiques paysages de montagnes, glaciers, de vallées boisées et lacs. Marquée par le pastoralisme (en exemple la maison de pierre de berger sur ce timbre), cette vallée est caractérisée par un système de gestion communale des terrains datant du 13ème siècle.

This Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, located in the parish of Escaldes, is the only place in Andorra to be a UNESCO World Heritage site (since 2004). 

According to UNESCO, "the cultural landscape of Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley offers a microcosmic perspective of the way people have harvested the resources of the high Pyrenees over millennia".

This valley occupies about 10% of the country (70% of all species of birds in Andorra have been recorded here). It consists of beautiful mountain scenery, glaciers, lakes and wooded valleys. Marked by pastoralism (in example the shepherd's stone house on that stamp), this valley is characterized by a communal land-ownership system dating back to the 13th century.

La principauté d'Andorre avait déjà émis en 1973 un timbre représentant une mésange bleue, dans sa série intitulée "Protection de la nature".

Le 3 mai 2014, la poste française en Andorre a émis un nouveau timbre (0,66€, tirage : 60000), gravé par André Lavergne, représentant une "Tintipella", le surnom en catalan de cette mésange bleue (Cyanistes caeruleus ou Parus caeruleus).
The Principality of Andorra had already issued in 1973 a stamp depicting an Eurasian Blue Tit in its "Conservation of Nature" series.
Some other postal administrations, mainly European (this sparrow living on this continent), also issued stamps in the past devoted to this Blue Tit : Belgium (Buzin series), Switzerland, Germany, Albania, Bulgaria, Jersey, Alderney, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Sweden, San Marino...
On May 3, 2014, the French Post in Andorra has issued a new stamp (€ 0.66, print run : 60,000), engraved by André Lavergne, featuring a "Tintipella", the nickname in Catalan of this Eurasian Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus or Parus caeruleus).

Ce timbre a été mis en vente anticipée le 2 mai 2014 à Andorre-la-Vieille mais aussi à Poitiers lors du salon "Timbres Passion 2014" organisé du 1er au 4 mai 2014.
Le pli Premier Jour ci-dessus a été envoyé de Poitiers, avec un TAD spécial différent de celui émis en Andorre. Merci beaucoup Olivier :-)
Ce TAD inclut la mention "EurAndorre", le nom de cette manifestation à Poitiers qui devait regrouper les 3 pays (France, Allemagne, Grande-Bretagne) ayant une association spécialisée sur la philatélie andorrane.
Mais la dimension européenne de cette manifestation fut finalement absente car seule l'association française PhilAndorre était présente et a exposé une trentaine de cadres...
A noter que l'émission de ce timbre avait sans doute un lien avec l'exposition philatélique "Birdpex" consacrée aux oiseaux dont la 7ème édition se tenait à Poitiers, et pour la 1ère fois en France.
That stamp was put in preview sale on May 2, 2014 in Andorra la Vella but also in Poitiers during the "Timbres Passion 2014" stamp exhibition held from 1 to 4 May 2014.
The first day cover above was sent from Poitiers, with a special postmark, different from the one issued in Andorra. Thank you very much Olivier :-)
This cancellation includes the mention "EurAndorre", the name of this event held in Poitiers which had to gather three countries (France, Germany, Great Britain) having an association specialized in Andorran stamps and philately.
But the European dimension of this event was finally absent because only the French association PhilAndorre was present in Poitiers and exposed a thirty stamp frames...
To note that the issue of that stamp was probably connected with the stamp exhibition "Birdpex" devoted to the birds whose 7th edition was held in Poitiers, for the first time in France.

Tribute to Catalan poet Salvador Espriú in Andorra

Comme de coutume, la poste espagnole en Andorre a consacré sa 1ère émission de l'année à une personnalité qui a marqué la Principauté ou la sphère catalane.
Le 10 janvier 2013, c'est ainsi le poète catalan Salvador Espriú (1913-1985) qui a été choisi pour figurer sur un timbre spécial autocollant (0,37€), à l'occasion des 100 ans de sa naissance.
C'est ce timbre qui a été utilisé à droite sur cette lettre postée le 15 juillet 2013 de la capitale, Andorre-la-Vieille. Merci beaucoup Josep :-)
Son oeuvre sera marquée par son enfance avec les décès de son frère et sa soeur mais aussi par la mort de son ami, le poète majorquin Rosseló Porcel. Après ces deuils, son esprit sera assombri davantage par le désastre de la guerre civile espagnole et l'intense processus de décatalanisation mené par les vainqueurs.
As usual, the Spanish Post in Andorra has devoted its first stamp issue of the year to a personality who marked the Principality or the Catalan sphere.

His work is marked by his childhood with the death of his brother and sister, but also by the death of his friend, the Mallorcan poet Rosseló Porcel. After this mourning, his mind was then darkened further by the disaster of the Spanish Civil War and the intense process of decatalanisation led by the winners.

Parmi ses principales oeuvres publiées en catalan : "Laia" (1932) racontant la vie sombre d'une fille de pêcheurs, "Cimetière de Sinera" (1946), sa 1ère œuvre poétique, "Chansons d'Ariane" (1949), "Première Histoire d'Esther" (1948), son oeuvre théâtrale majeure, "Les rochers et la mer, le bleu" (1981)...
Certains affirment que Salvador Espriú aurait mérité de recevoir le Prix Nobel de littérature.
J'ai enfin déjà évoqué sur ce blog le 2ème timbre ci-dessus à gauche (0,75€), émis le 21 février 2013 pour commémorer le 100ème anniversaire de l'ouverture de la route reliant la principauté d'Andorre à la ville catalane voisine de La Seu d'Urgell.

Contrairement aux années précédentes, la principauté d'Andorre (poste française) n'a pas fait preuve de beaucoup d'originalité concernant son timbre EUROPA 2013 dont le thème cette année est les véhicules postaux...
C'est même un timbre plutôt tristounet, conçu par Enric Cardus, qui a été émis le 17 mai 2013.
C'est ce timbre (0,80€, tirage : 60000) qui a été utilisé sur la lettre ci-dessous postée le 17 juillet 2013 d'Andorre-la-Vieille, la capitale du pays. Merci beaucoup Olivier :-)
Contrary to previous years, the Principality of Andorra (French Post) did not show a lot of originality regarding its EUROPA 2013 stamp whose theme this year is "Postal vehicles"...
It is even a rather boring stamp, designed by Enric Cardus, that was issued on May 17, 2013.

Ce timbre a été conçu à partir d'une photographie d'Antoni Pujol Huguet représentant un véhicule de la société Huguet qui était assurait la liaison, dans la première moitié du 20ème siècle, entre les villes de Latour-de-Carol (France, département des Pyrénées-Orientales) et de Sant Julià de Lòria (sud de la principauté d'Andorre).
Ce type de véhicule était dédié au transport postal mais pas uniquement puisque les moyens de communications furent limités dans cette principauté dont les infrastructures étaient alors peu développées.
Ce véhicule assurait donc également le transport de voyageurs, de touristes, de marchandises...
That stamp was designed from a photograph by Antoni Pujol Huguet depicting a vehicle of the company Huguet that was used, in the first half of the 20th century, between the cities of Latour-de-Carol, France (Department of Pyrénées-Orientales) and Sant Julià de Lòria (south of the Principality of Andorra).
This type of vehicle was dedicated to postal transport but not only as the means of communication were limited in the Principality at the time whose infrastructure was then undeveloped.
So this vehicle also provided transport of travelers, tourists, goods...
