100 Years of Aviation in Hong Kong

Dans un message publié sur ce blog le 30 mars 2011, je vous présentais un splendide FDC consacré au 100ème anniversaire du 1er vol motorisé à Singapour, qui eut lieu le 16 mars 1911 précisément grâce à l'aviateur belge Josef Christiaens à bord d'un biplan Bristol Box Kite.
Deux jours plus tard, c'est un autre pionnier belge, Charles van den Born (1874-1958), qui s'envolait pour la 1ère fois dans le ciel de Hong Kong, à Sha Tin, à bord d'un biplan Farman.
Ce 18 mars 1911 marquait ainsi le début officiel de l'aviation à Hong Kong et la poste locale a émis, le 18 mars 2011, un joli bloc-feuillet (2 timbres) commémorant ce centenaire.

In a post published on this blog on March 30, 2011, I shared with you a beautiful FDC devoted to the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight in Singapore, which took place on March 16, 1911 precisely with the Belgian aviator Josef Christiaens on board a Bristol Box Kite biplane.
Two days later, it's another Belgian pioneer, Charles van den Born (1874-1958), who took to the sky for the first time in Hong Kong, at Sha Tin, on a Farman biplane.
That day, March 18, 1911, marked thus the official beginning of aviation in Hong Kong and the local postal administration has issued on March 18, 2011, a beautiful souvenir sheet (two stamps) to commemorate this milestone's centennial.

C'est ce bloc-feuillet qui figure sur le très réussi FDC officiel ci-dessus, conçu par Chun-hong Wong, également le créateur de ce bloc imprimé en France par Cartor Security Printing. Merci beaucoup Trudy :-)
A noter les encoches elliptiques au milieu des dentelures verticales sur ces 2 timbres ainsi que le caractère chinois "百" (signifiant 100) doré dans la marge en haut à droite...
Le timbre de droite, avec son fond sépia, évoque ce moment historique du 18 mars 1911 avec l'envol du biplan Farman alors que le timbre de gauche montre la réplique de cet avion présente dans le terminal des passagers de l'aéroport international de Hong Kong.
C'est ce même aéroport qui est évoqué dans la marge à gauche sur ce bloc avec les célèbres gratte-ciel de Hong Kong dans le fond.
A noter que l'aviateur et constructeur d'avion français Henry Farman figurait (avec son biplan) sur un des 6 timbres du bloc émis par la poste française le 15 octobre 2010, consacré à des pionniers de l'aviation...

To note the elliptical notches on each vertical perforation on these two stamps and the golden Chinese character "百" (meaning "100") in the top right margin...
The stamp on the right, with its sepia background, is reminding us the historic moment of March 18, 1911 with the lift-off of the Farman biplane while the left's stamp is featuring a replica of this aircraft on display at the passenger terminal of the Hong Kong International Airport.
It's this same airport that is evoked in the left margin on this sheet with the famous Hong Kong skyscrapers in the background.
It's worth noting that the French aviator and aircraft manufacturer Henry Farman appeared (with his biplane) on a souvenir sheet of six stamps issued by the French Post on October 15, 2010, devoted to pioneers of aviation...
