L'Autriche, située au coeur de l'Europe, est un des pays les plus touristiques (été comme hiver) du continent grâce à ses magnifiques paysages de montagne mais aussi son riche patrimoine culturel et architectural.
La poste autrichienne a donc dignement interpréter le thème EUROPA de cette année, "Visitez...", avec un splendide bloc-feuillet composé d'un timbre (0,70€), émis le 11 mai 2012.
C'est ce bloc (tirage : 175000), conçu par Silvia Moucka, qui figure sur la lettre ci-dessous postée de Vienne le 1er jour d'émission. Merci beaucoup Edna :-)
Le timbre évoque une partie de la grande roue de Vienne ("Wiener Riesenrad", construite en 1897), située au Prater, un des symboles de la ville avec ses 65 mètres de haut.
Austria, situated in the heart of Europe, is one the countries attracting the most tourists (in summer and winter) of the continent thanks to its magnificent mountain scenery but also its rich cultural and architectural heritage.
The Austrian Post has thus worthily interpreted the EUROPA theme of this year, "Visit...", with a beautiful souvenir sheet consisting of one stamp (€ 0.70), issued on May 11, 2012.
It is this sheet (print run : 175,000), designed by Silvia Moucka, that appears on the cover below mailed from Vienna the first day of issue. Thank you very much Edna :-)
The stamp features a part of the Ferris wheel in Vienna ("Wiener Riesenrad", built in 1897), located on the Prater, one of the symbols of the city with its 65 meters high.
La marge du bloc à gauche montre une jolie vue nocturne (coucher de soleil ?) de la cathédrale Saint-Etienne de Vienne ("Stephansdom"), de style gothique (12ème et 13ème siècle), avec sa célèbre toiture composée de tuiles vernissées multicolores.
La forteresse de Hohensalzburg (11ème siècle, la plus grande d'Europe), située sur la colline de Mönchsberg dominant la ville de Salzbourg, est représentée au dessus du timbre.
L'autre illustration, sous le timbre, représente le monument emblématique de la ville de Graz, la tour de l'horloge, haute de 28 mètres (construite vers 1550). Son cadran a une particularité : l'aiguille des heures est deux fois plus longue que celle des minutes !
Edna a également utilisé un timbre courant autocollant, émis le 20 juin 2011, consacré au Musée Liaunig de Neuhaus (5c) à l'architecture avant-gardiste.
The margin of the sheet to the left shows a beautiful night view (a sunset ?) of the St. Stephen's Cathedral of Vienna ("Stephansdom"), with its Gothic style (12th and 13th century) and its famous roof composed of multi-colored glazed tiles.
The Hohensalzburg Fortress (11th century, the largest in Europe), located on the Mönchsberg hill overlooking the city of Salzburg, is shown above the stamp.
The other illustration, under the stamp, features the landmark of the city of Graz, the Clock Tower, 28 meters high (circa 1550). Its clock has a particularity : the hour's hand is two times longer than the minute's one !
Edna has also used an adhesive definitive stamp, issued on June 20, 2011, dedicated to the Liaunig Museum of Neuhaus (5c) and its avant-garde architecture.
