Le 1er octobre 1964, le premier Shinkansen ("nouvelle grande ligne" en japonais), le train à grande vitesse japonais, était mis en service sur la ligne Tōkaidō (515 km) entre Tokyo et Osaka, quelques jours avant l'ouverture des jeux olympiques d'été organisés dans la capitale du pays.
Le Japon devenait ainsi un précurseur de la grande vitesse sur rail, bien avant le TGV français ou l'ICE allemand.
Le réseau actuel du Shinkansen est de 2400 km avec des rames roulant entre 240 et 320 km/h.
Depuis 50 ans, le Shinkansen, un modèle de ponctualité, a transporté plus de 10 milliards de passagers et, malgré les conditions géologiques du Japon (tremblements de terre, tsunami...), n'a connu aucun accident grave.
On October 1, 1964, the first Shinkansen ("new trunk line" in Japanese), the Japanese high-speed train was put into service on the Tōkaidō line (515 km) between Tokyo and Osaka, a few days before the opening of the summer Olympic games held in the country's capital.
Japan thus became a precursor of the high-speed rail, long before the French TGV or German ICE.
The current network of the Shinkansen covers 2,400 km of railway lines with trains traveling between 240 and 320 km/h.
For 50 years, the Shinkansen, a model of punctuality, carried more than 10 billion passengers and, despite the geological conditions of Japan (earthquake, tsunami...), there have never been any passenger fatalities due to derailments or collisions.
50 ans jour pour jour après cette 1ère mise en service, la poste japonaise a émis, le 1er octobre 2014 (26ème année de l'ère Heisei), un feuillet spécial composé de 10 timbres différents à 82 yens (tarif pour l'envoi domestique d'une lettre) montrant les différents trains Shinkansen mis en service entre 1964 et 2014.
C'est le haut de ce feuillet qui a été utilisé sur le pli Premier Jour ci-dessus, envoyé de la ville de Sendai (Préfecture de Miyagi) située à 300 km au nord-est de Tokyo. Merci beaucoup Keiko :-)
A noter les 2 TAD rouges consacrés respectivement au modèle 0, le 1er Shinkansen en service entre 1964 et 2008 (à gauche) et à différents autres modèles (à droite).
Ce même modèle 0 figure sur le timbre à gauche alors que l'autre timbre représente les modèles 100 ou "Hikari" (en service entre 1985 et 1991) et 300 ou "Nozomi" (en service entre 1992 et 1998).
50 years to the day after this first Shinkansen, the Japan Post has issued on October 1, 2014 (the 26th year of the Heisei Era), a special sheet containing 10 different stamps with a nominal value of 82 yen (rate for a letter sent inside Japan) showing the various Shinkansen trains operated between 1964 and 2014.
It is the top of this sheet that was used on the first day cover above, sent from the city of Sendai (Miyagi Prefecture) located 300 km northeast of Tokyo. Thank you very much Keiko :-)
