Fresco by Keith Haring in France

Après Edward Hopper en 2012 et Joan Mitchell début 2014, la poste française a rendu hommage cette année à un autre monstre de la peinture américaine, Keith Haring (1958-1990), à travers un timbre reproduisant une partie d'une fresque monumentale réalisée en 1987 à l'hôpital Necker à Paris.

After Edward Hopper in 2012 and Joan Mitchell earlier this year, the French Post has paid tribute this year to another monster of American painting, Keith Haring (1958-1990) through a stamp reproducing a part of a monumental fresco made in 1987 at the Necker Hospital in Paris.

Keith Haring est sans doute l'artiste Pop Art et Street Art américain le plus célèbre (la plupart de ses oeuvres ont été effectuées à New-York), grâce à son style reconnaissable avec ces silhouettes aux contours noirs souvent mêlées à des couleurs vives.
La fresque reproduite sur ce timbre, la seule en extérieur réalisée par Haring en France, a été peinte sur la cage d'escalier de secours du bâtiment de chirurgie pédiatrique de l'hôpital Necker-Enfants malades à Paris.
Cette oeuvre, qui sera restaurée en 2015, symbolise l'énergie et la volonté de vivre ainsi que l'engagement de l'artiste pour les enfants et contre la maladie.
A noter qu'un timbre "naissance", représentant un des célèbres personnages de Keith Haring, avait déjà été émis en France en 2003.
Keith Haring is probably the most famous Pop Art and Street Art American artist (most of his works have been performed in New York), due to his recognizable style with these silhouettes with black contours, often mixed with bright colors.
The fresco depicted on that stamp, the only outdoor work made by Haring in France, was painted on the rescue staircase of the building of pediatric surgery at the Necker Hospital for children in Paris.
This work, which will be restored in 2015, symbolizes the energy and the will to live as well as the commitment of the artist for children and against the disease.
To note that a "Birth" stamp, featuring one of the famous Keith Haring's characters, had already been issued in France in 2003.
