Dans le cadre de sa série annuelle consacrée aux voyages apostoliques du pape François au cours de l'année 2014, la poste vaticane a mis en circulation, le 2 septembre 2015, une série de 4 timbres et 1 bloc-feuillet.
Ce bloc-feuillet (3€, tirage : 100000) constitue une émission commune avec Israël, étant consacré à la visite du pape en Terre Sainte du 24 au 26 mai 2014.
C'est ce bloc qui figure à gauche sur la lettre ci-dessous, envoyée depuis la Cité du Vatican le 11 novembre 2015, avec l'empreinte noire en bas à gauche (silhouettes de monuments parisiens : Notre-Dame, Tour Eiffel, Sacré-Coeur) évoquant la présence de la poste vaticane au dernier Salon Philatélique d'Automne à Paris.
Le timbre de ce bloc-feuillet montre l'église du Saint-Sépulcre alors que la marge inférieure représente une partie de la vieille ville de Jérusalem, avec l'abbaye de la Dormition à gauche.
As part of its annual series devoted to Pope Francis apostolic journeys in 2014, the Vatican Post has put into circulation, on September 2, 2015, a series of four stamps and one souvenir sheet.
This souvenir sheet (€ 3.00, print run : 100 000) is a joint issue with Israel, being devoted to the Pope's visit to the Holy Land from 24 to 26 May 2014.
That sheet was used to the left on the letter below, sent from the Vatican City on November 11, 2015, with the black inkmark at the bottom left (Parisian monuments silhouettes : Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Coeur) mentioning the presence of the Vatican Post at the last "Salon Philatélique d'Automne" in Paris.
The stamp of this souvenir sheet shows the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, while the lower margin depicts a part of the Old City of Jerusalem, with the Dormition Abbey to the left.
A noter que le portrait du pape François, à gauche, n'est pas présent sur le bloc émis par Israël...
L'église du Saint-Sépulcre est un lieu de pèlerinage pour les chrétiens depuis le 4ème siècle, incluant le lieu de la crucifixion et la grotte où le corps du Christ fut déposé après sa mort.
L'édifice actuel de l'abbaye de la Dormition (achevé en 1910) a été construit à l'endroit où Marie, la mère de Jésus, serait entrée dans le sommeil éternel.
A noter que le Vatican et Israël avaient déjà émis un timbre commun en 2010 consacré au voyage du pape Benoît XVI en Terre Sainte en 2009.
L'autre timbre à droite (0,80€, tirage : 250000) est le timbre commun émis avec l'Italie le 19 mai 2015, consacré au 200ème anniversaire de la naissance de Saint Jean Bosco (1815-1888).
J'avais déjà évoqué cette émission commune via une lettre affranchie avec la version italienne de ce timbre consacré à Jean Bosco ou Don Bosco, né en Italie, qui a dédié sa vie à l'éducation des jeunes issus de milieux défavorisés et qui a fondé, en 1854, la Congrégation des salésiens.
Avec cette oblitération mécanique rouge appliquée ci-dessus, Don Bosco, canonisé en 1934, a retrouvé son auréole de saint...
A noter enfin que de nombreuses autres administrations postales ont émis cette année des timbres consacrés à Don Bosco : Brésil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Saint-Marin, Autriche, Slovaquie, Malte, Kenya, Portugal, Pologne ou SMOM.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a pilgrimage site for Christians since the 4th century, including the site of the crucifixion and the cave where Christ's body was laid after his death.
The current building of the Dormition Abbey (completed in 1910) was built in the place where Mary, the mother of Jesus, would have entered into eternal sleep.
To note that Vatican and Israel had already issued a joint stamp in 2010 dedicated to the journey of Pope Benedict XVI to the Holy Land in 2009.
The other stamp above on the right (€ 0.80, print run: 250 000) is the joint stamp issued with Italy on May 19, 2015, devoted to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Saint John Bosco (1815-1888).
I already mentioned this joint issue through a letter franked with the Italian version of that stamp dedicated to John Bosco or Don Bosco, born in Italy, who dedicated his life to the education of street children, juvenile delinquents, and other disadvantaged youth and who founded in 1854 the Salesian Congregation.
With this mechanical red cancellation applied above, Don Bosco, canonized in 1934, seems to have his holy aureola...
Finally, to note that several other postal administrations have issued stamps this year dedicated to Don Bosco : Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, San Marino, Austria, Slovakia, Malta, Kenya, Portugal, Poland or SMOM.
